Known as the “lone tree of lake Wanaka,” it is said to be one of the most photographed trees in all New Zealand. ... The lone tree is right at the foothills of Mount Aspiring National Park, a World Heritage Site, acting as a doorway into even more of the breathtaking landscapes that embody the South Island of New Zealand.

According to Some Sevit website, Sebitseom is a floating cultural complex on the Han River in the heart of downtown Seoul. 'some sevit' is world's first cultural space to float on water, consists of three islands that embody the process by which a seed 'some solvit' turns into a flower bud 'some chavit' and transforms into a flower in full bloom 'some gavit'.
This is a night photograph of the link bridge leading to the flower bud “some chavit” structure.
Puerto Villamil (on the southeastern corner of Isla Isabela) embodies the archetypal end of the road – in a good way, the kind that lures weary city folks to pick up and move halfway around the world. Backed by a lagoon where flamingos and marine iguanas live, and situated on a beautiful white-sand beach, it’s a sleepy village of sandy roads and small homes. However, overdevelopment threatens, and there’s been something of a mini building boom over the past several years.
Undoubtedly, when General José Villamil moved here in 1832 with hopes of organizing a model community made up mostly of whalers, he found the location as beguiling as do today’s visitors. Unfortunately, the draftees’ peaceful inclinations proved to be more utopian than real, and they ended up destroying the colony. Villamil later introduced cows, horses and donkeys, which quickly reproduced, threatening the island’s delicate ecosystem.
Symbolically the plant, with its bright colors and its very flowering branches embodies the welcome and the passion. From the esoteric point of view it is associated with the element of air with propitiatory characteristics of protection, fortune and prosperity. It is believed in fact, that by planting the bouganville outside the home It will ward off the negativity and bad luck.
"“See you at Sunset!” This iconic phrase has embodied the spirit and history of Key West since the event took off in the late 1960s! Beginning two hours before sunset, it’s a celebration and view that has captured the love and astonishment of iconic figures from Mark Twain in the 1800s to Tennessee Williams in the late 20th century! The Key West Sunset Celebration invites everyone to partake in watching the glowing pink and red sun sink into the Gulf of Mexico horizon. The nightly festival hosts visitors from all over the world who come to take part in the magicians, jugglers, clowns, psychics, local musicians, artists, and food vendors that combine for an incredible cultural experience. It is a fusion of friends and talents that has captivated tourists and locals alike. This nightly party has everything any local or guest could ever hope to stumble upon. The beauty, sheer history, and pure passion of this event have been immortalized in renowned art, stories, poetry, and photography!"

Probably nothing too spectacular to many onlookers. It nonetheless embodies a kind of oriental beauty and harmony in it which has a lot to do with Buddhism and a simple and ecological way of living. A Flickr friend of mine told me that more than half of the Japanese are still Buddhists ...

McDonald's Creek stretches twenty miles to embody some of the most scenic views in Glacier National Park. It cuts through layers of fascinating geology and follows a large portion of "Going to the Sun," one of the most scenic drives in the park. As a main staple for the Kootenai Indians, it brought food, water and provided a gorgeous, natural location for their sacred ceremonies. The crystal clear water's path goes from wide to narrow, rushing to meandering steep canyon waterfalls to wide stepped falls, tumbling over shelves of bright red and green shales.

Beyond the dusty world,
I enjoy solitude and peace.
I shut my door,
I close my window.
Harmony is my Spring,
Purity my Autumn.
Thus I embody the rhythms of life,
And my cottage becomes a Universe.

Chaos embodied in a young Redbud Tree, Cercis canadensis, planted between the road and the old woodland in Cullinan Park, Sugar Land, Texas. Reminded me of the stringy distribution of Dark Matter on a cosmic scale, and of Vincent van Gogh’s “Flowering Plum Tree” (after Hiroshige, 1887), and especially “Almond Blossom” (1890), painted just before his death. Saw an exhibit of his work at the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam some decades ago, which was interspersed with work by his contemporaries, treating similar subjects in not too dissimilar styles. On every wall, the merest glance would suffice to identify van Gogh, which invariably jumped out of the crowd to grab my attention.

The Chocolate Pansy Butterfly, also known as Junonia Iphita or Chocolate Soldier, is a captivating creature belonging to the Nymphalidae family, which is the largest group of butterflies globally. With its dark brown color resembling chocolate and the pansy flower, this fascinating species can be found throughout Asia, from India to China and Japan.
In Asia, this butterfly symbolizes different things such as strength and courage in India while representing love, beauty, and good luck in Thailand. Indian tradition even connects it with Lord Vishnu and Goddesses Laxmi to embody their grace, compassion, and beauty.
Being active during the day, they fly quickly and feed on flower nectar. They like to stay close to the ground and warm up under the sun or go to mud puddles for a drink of water and essential salts. This butterfly species experiences seasonal changes in appearance as they showcase slightly different wet and dry season forms. (nepaldesk.com/butterfly/chocolate-pansy)

As the days march on to winter, I wanted to capture a sign of the transition. This image embodies the transition to me. Setting up this image, I wanted the leaves to represent what is left of Autumn. The clouds quickly moving in to represent the winter. The tree itself is the symbol of the transition, still holding on to autumn but the bleakness of winter taking over. The darkness filled with the blue and gray tones to represent winter. The yellow of the leaves to represent the colors of autumn.
The Berkana (ᛒ) rune embodies renewal of all forms of life and the nurturing power of creation. It symbolizes healing, protection, and the quiet strength that fosters transformation. Berkana does not hasten change; it tends it. Like the birch that bends in storm yet never breaks, it teaches patience and speaks of new beginnings - fresh paths unfolding after endings - and reminds us that true growth comes in silence.
This rune is a guardian of transitions, guiding those who step away from what no longer serves them. Berkana shows that renewal does not always appear as arrival; sometimes it is found in departure, in leaving behind the weight of what cannot be carried forward. It calls us to trust in the cycles of release and rebirth, to embrace the shelter that allows spirit and will to flourish.
“Through Berkana, every loss becomes a seed, and every silence a space for transformation to occur.”

And this I dreamt, and this I dream,
And some time this I will dream again,
And all will be repeated, all be re-embodied,
You will dream everything I have seen in dream.
To one side from ourselves, to one side from the world
Wave follows wave to break on the shore,
On each wave is a star, a person, a bird,
Dreams, reality, death - on wave after wave.
No need for a date: I was, I am, and I will be,
Life is a wonder of wonders, and to wonder
I dedicate myself, on my knees, like an orphan,
Alone - among mirrors - fenced in by reflections:
Cities and seas, iridescent, intensified.
A mother in tears takes a child on her lap.

Every day there are disasters in the world, wars, earthquakes, tornadoes, droughts, floods ----
There is no news of good news, or at least, they are less and less resonant ----
A nice and certain news is that there will be a sunset and dawn every day, for those who want to turn their gaze, and this comfort me ....

“La Feminque Desiree” by its namesake embodies the essence of sexual possession.
The name Desiree is a girl's name of French origin meaning "desired, wished". La Feminique Desiree is thus implicit of a woman who becomes the object of desire for a man. She is both mysterious and sensual in truest surrealist spirit - his ultimate sexual fantasy underscored by the passionate quest to possess her.
It’s beautiful shrug top teasingly reveals the underbust. The sensuous shorts’ scantily side-tied appearance begs to be explored. Combined, these sexy pieces illicit nothing short of pure sexual empowerment. I think that Jenny should have sewn a warning label into this gorgeous, sensual, and sexy outfit.
This La Feminque Desiree outfit is exclusively available at this month's Swank Events which is celebrating its 7 Year Anniversary.

Deep within an ancient forest, where sunlight dances through the trees, a guardian and a stag stand side by side. Their bond is unique, woven by the mysterious energy of nature itself. She, bearer of sacred antlers, embodies the spirit of the woods; he, majestic and silent, is its untamed king.
They need no words to communicate, just a glance, and their hearts beat in harmony with the whisper of the wind and the murmur of the trees. Together, they watch over this forgotten sanctuary, where time stands still, and nature sings its song of freedom.

In the serene woodlands of Hacienda Montecristo, near the culturally rich Santa Rosa de Copán, I captured a tender moment between an Azure-crowned Hummingbird, Saucerottia cyanocephala, and her fledgling. This photograph embodies the essence of a mother's care, set against a backdrop where the verdure of Honduras unfolds in harmony with the simplicity of these birds' existence. The adult's vibrant azure crown, a stark contrast to the juvenile's developing plumes, speaks volumes of the life stages that I, as a photographer, am privileged to witness.
Utilizing a shallow depth of field, I sought to crystallize the duo's interaction while allowing the lush environment to softly blur into bokeh, highlighting the birds as the focal point. The diffused lighting of the canopy gently illuminated the iridescence of the mother's feathers, while the careful composition preserved the integrity of their natural behavior. This image is not just a visual record; it is a story of survival and continuity in the avian world, a narrative I strive to share through my lens. ©2022 Adam Rainoff

REGARDEZ BIEN CETTE PHOTO : J’AI VOLONTAIREMENT MIS LA MOITIÉ GAUCHE DE CELLE-CI EN MONOCHROME ET LA MOITIÉ DROITE EST RESTÉE EN COULEURS !
°°°°°°°°°°°°°°
LOOK AT THIS PHOTO : I'VE DELIBERATELY MADE THE LEFT HALF MONOCHROME AND THE RIGHT COLOURFUL !
——————————————————————————————————
°°°°°°°°°°°°
By removing colour from a photograph, we are 'forced' to concentrate on the contrasts between light and dark areas.
The play of light creates so many leading lines that naturally guide the eye through the image. This makes the image more effective and easier to read.
You can also play with the modelling of the elements so that you can 'feel' the organic or artificial aspect of a particular element in the image.
Finally, black and white photography embodies a return to the essential. The focus is on the basic ingredient of the photograph - light - and how it interacts with the elements in the frame.
A genuine artistic interest emerges from a technical constraint …
Trails of light left by rushing cars along Julia Vargas Ave, embody the vibrant night life in Manila. Now sadly missing.
Resilience.
This row of trees close to Pukehou, a small farming community in between Hastings and Waipawa in Hawke's Bay, is a regular subject of my photography. The fields here, as well as other parts of New Zealand, were recently flooded by Cyclone Gabrielle, causing significant damage to crops and houses.
It was good to see that these trees are still standing tall and proud, and were as inviting as ever, especially in the gentle light of dawn. It gave me a sense of resilience and hope, embodied by the enduring presence of these splendid trees.
This group of trees is a regular subject of my photography. Have a look here for more: www.josbuurmans.nz/portfolio/hawkes-bay-recurring-trees
These are seen at an amusement park that features the adapted reuse of old industrial structures in Buffalo, NY, USA, taken in 2022.
Just for jollies, I let ChatGPT take a shot at creating an artists statement:
This piece explores themes of history, abandonment, and the persistence of memory. The empty, windowless industrial building stands as a relic of the past—stripped of function, yet still bearing the weight of time. It is a space of absence, yet within it, movement and purpose emerge in an unexpected form.
The two World War I biplanes, red and yellow, fly into its open windows without pilots. They are symbols of an era long gone, yet they persist, navigating a space that no longer belongs to them. Their presence suggests both defiance and inevitability, as if history is looping back upon itself, ghostly yet insistent. The absence of pilots deepens the sense of mystery and loss—are they abandoned, like the building itself? Or do they move with an unseen will of their own, embodying the lingering echoes of conflict and human ambition?
Through this work, I invite viewers to reflect on the intersections of time, memory, and the spaces we leave behind. What continues to move within ruins? What histories take flight even in decay? The past does not simply vanish—it finds new ways to re-enter our world, unpiloted, yet ever present."
What a crack-up.... See more of my Buffalo NY images here: www.flickr.com/photos/191087541@N02/albums/72177720303093...

Cherry blossoms (sakura) embody profound and often contrasting meanings. Primarily, they symbolize the fleeting nature of life, as their vibrant beauty peaks briefly before the petals fall and wither. This ephemeral quality also ties them to themes of both life and death: they herald spring’s renewal yet serve as a reminder of mortality.
In Japanese culture, cherry blossoms are deeply symbolic, appearing in art, literature, and film. Historically, they mirrored the short but intense lives of samurai, who adhered to bushido (a code of honor, discipline, and fearlessness). Fallen petals were likened to warriors’ sacrifices. During WWII, kamikaze pilots painted sakura on their planes to represent dying “like falling blossoms” for the emperor.
Rooted in folk beliefs, sakura were once tied to agricultural fertility. The term sakura may derive from sa (rice paddy deity) and kura (a deity’s seat). People believed mountain spirits, later revered as rice gods, dwelled in cherry trees. This led to spring pilgrimages to worship them.
The tradition of Hanami (flower viewing) originated as rituals to pray for bountiful harvests, with offerings made beneath blooming trees. Today, it is a festive spring gathering where people picnic, sing, and celebrate under sakura.

None of these portraits won the Archibald, but they embodied the growing celebrity culture of the second half of the 20th century. In the world of Australian celebrity these two people stand out: Internationally known comedian Barry Humphries en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barry_Humphries and Ian “Molly” Meldrum en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Molly_Meldrum. Although Molly is well known in rock music circles around the world for his quirky and passionate interviews, Barry is best known as his alter-ego Dame Edna Everage. www.youtube.com/watch?v=7G6K34GWeas
The colourful painting of Edna Everage resplendent in pink gloves and coat, with lime green dress and blue floral hat was painted by one of Australia’s greatest artists who usually worked in monochromatic tones of brown. It will surprise some people that this is by John Brack (1920-1999). www.youtube.com/watch?v=lMNuO_5YSFk
The painting was entered in the Archibald in 1969 when Barry Humphries was becoming established in Britain as a major star.
www.artgallery.nsw.gov.au/artboards/archie-100/the-cult-o...
In this photograph I was fascinated to see the way the woman looking at this painting was wearing similar spectacles and hair style and the line of her neck matches that of Edna’s back.
The portrait of a confident looking Molly Meldrum is a tour de force by Wes Walters in 1983. Anyone who knows his interview style understands this was not always the case. www.youtube.com/watch?v=g0FooK4X9Zo
But the Egyptian theme is certainly something that fits Meldrum completely. He is a passionate collector of Egyptian artefacts. www.artgallery.nsw.gov.au/artboards/archie-100/the-cult-o...

Teylers in Haarlem embodies the great ideals of the Enlightenment. The fortune of Pieter Teyler (1702-1778) was used to found a centre for contemporary art and science. It was conceived as a Mouseion or Musaeum, referring to the great institution in Alexandria, in which scholars and collections were brought together under one roof to pursue knowledge and to create art. It was a revolutionary act to install such a centre for burghers by burghers without any influence of the authorities. The monopoly on information by authorities was thus changed into a democracy of knowledge.
Lectures, demonstrations, scientific research and the creation of art all took place on its premises. Immediately after its foundation Teylers developed close ties with the scientific world in Europe, resulting in a stream of visitors, correspondence and the acquisition of objects for scientific use or for artistic inspiration. Its first acquisition was the Encyclopédie by Diderot and d'Alembert.
The epic centre of the activities was the Oval Room, finished in 1784, which was built behind the house of Pieter Teyler. In the course of time new rooms were added, responding to new needs of the public and the scientists and to the growing collections. Once installed the rooms were never changed. From c. 1920 it was not longer possible to finance the activities of the scientists and the artists and the transition to a museum was completed.
The Teylers museum has been on the TENTATIVE UNESCO World Heritage list since 2011.

The Lighting Of The Sails: The Kiss Of Light.
By artist David McDiarmid.
This is one of many artworks projected onto the sails of the Sydney Opera House for Vivid Sydney 2025.
Photographed from the northern end of the Overseas Passenger Terminal, near Campbells Cove.
The artist, the late David McDiarmid, was a defining voice of late 20th century's radical counterculture. He fused art, fashion, nightlife with bold activism and unapologetic self-expression.
On the 30th anniversary of the artist’s death, 'Lighting of the Sails: Kiss of Light' transforms his life’s work, rooted in activism and provocation, into a new animation projected onto the Sydney Opera House for Vivid Sydney, 2025.
Organised by mood and feeling, 'Kiss of Light' is a slow dance of texture, colour, feeling and idea, tracing the artist’s punk origins. Featuring four key bodies of work - the Bedsheet Paintings, Disco Kwilts, and the Kiss of Light and Rainbow Aphorisms - the animation draws forward McDiarmid’s practice to the present day, broadcasting the experiences of a repressed minority while embodying complex truths, absorbing fear and preserving memory.

The Hume-Rowe House is an excellent example of vernacular Victorian residential architecture embodying elements of the Queen Anne style. The house features a prominent canted hipped roof, a bay window, a wraparound porch, a railing with gingerbread-style brackets, and turned wood balusters.
J.L. Hume, president of the First National Bank, purchased this property in 1897 and built the house around 1905, although it is still being determined whether the Hume family ever lived here. In 1905, Hume sold the property to Callie May Rowe, the daughter of James Cato Rowe and his wife, Mary.
James was an aide to Robert E. Lee during the Civil War and a member of a pioneer Austin family. Callie and her parents lived there until 1910, when James died. After that, Callie rented the house for several years, and Mary lived there from approximately 1916 to 1920. The house had a long series of owners before it was sold in 2006 to Aryn Sullivan, who applied for historic zoning for the property. Today, the house is a City of Austin Historic Landmark.
Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990, the Hyde Park Historic District includes an eclectic mixture of architectural styles, from late 19th-century Queen Anne and Classical Revival homes to 20th-century bungalows and ranch houses. Additionally, many of the houses and buildings in Hyde Park have been designated City of Austin Historic Landmarks and Texas Historic Landmarks.
