Tsurushi-Bina decoration.

TSURUSHI-BINA is a traditional craft said to be originated in Shizuoka prefecture. Small stuffed dolls are hand-made by mothers and grandmothers in the pray for their daughters and granddaughters' healthy growth and future well-being.

Different wishes and prayers are embedded in distinct figures. For example, flower is in the hope that daughters and granddaughters grow up like beautiful flowers, cushion is for them to be able to sit on their own soon, red pepper is as a repellent to protect them from bad people, and so on.

An eclectic mix of architectural styles turns this stairway into a beautiful entrance.

It is what I call an embedded photo; where I take a high-contrast B&W and overlay it with the original color image in the form of a double exposure.

The photo was taken on Whitiker St. opposite Forsyth Park, Savannah Ga.

The new creation, named The Weaving Wall (TWW), carries the vision of engaging various stakeholders within the community. The Weaving Wall combines a vast array of mediums including literature, visual arts, weaving art, and performing art to navigate and tell the story of Hong Kong textiles.

Drawing and distilling inspiration from 'The Memory of Herbs', the first part of The Trilogy of Women Workers written by Chan Wai and created by The Mills, The Weaving Wall is embedded upon this pilot part of the literature series as the blueprint for creation. As early as 2017, The Mills' CHAT (Centre for Heritage, Arts and Textile) and the House of Hong Kong Literature jointly curated and invited the renowned local writer, Chan Wai, to craft stories of women workers set against the backdrop of Tsuen Wan and Hong Kong's textile history. This time, The Mills has invited visual artist Flyingpig and the weaving art team Breakthrough Arts Studio and embroidery artist Dream a Little Dream Embroidery joining forces with the community to paint and weave, presenting the past and present of the community before everyone's eyes. Flyingpig's artwork portrays the sentiments, appearances, and everyday life of the Tsuen Wan district. Evolving from a barren land to becoming a textile hub in Hong Kong, familiar landscapes gradually become unfamiliar, yet many individuals have grasped opportunities to shine here in this place. The place has expanded in scale, experiencing ups and downs. This place named after some distinct strands of herbs, however, hold only ample space to store our hearts. The visual artists use heartfelt brushstrokes to outline the lives of the women workers penned by Chan Wai.

This old brewery buidling which is in a devastating state looks like its rotting in some lonely forrest - actually it is located in a franconian village where it seems to be mostly ignored.

Don't worry, my personal artist101 "texture" will only be used this once lol

Just an experiment inspired by another flickr member's unacceptable behavior!

Severe hp supercell in a line of storms NW of Illiopolis, IL

Nestled among the vast clouds of star-forming regions like this one lie potential clues about the formation of our own solar system.

This image from the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope features AFGL 5180, a beautiful stellar nursery located in the constellation of Gemini (the Twins).

At the center of the image, a massive star is forming and blasting cavities through the clouds with a pair of powerful jets, extending to the top right and bottom left of the image. Light from this star is mostly escaping and reaching us by illuminating these cavities, like a lighthouse piercing through the storm clouds.

Stars are born in dusty environments and although this dust makes for spectacular images, it can prevent astronomers from seeing stars embedded in it. Hubble’s Wide Field Camera 3 (WFC3) instrument is designed to capture detailed images in both visible and infrared light, meaning that the young stars hidden in vast star-forming regions like AFGL 5180 can be seen much more clearly.

LIGHT BLOOM by HYBYCOZO is a limited-time exhibit where nature and light converge. This mesmerizing display invites you to explore the Garden transformed by stunning geometric light installations that illuminate the beauty of the desert landscape in a new way. As the sun sets, LIGHT BLOOM comes to life, casting intricate shadows and vibrant hues across the Garden. Wander the trails and let the enchanting installations transport you to a magical realm where the natural world meets the abstract.

HYBYCOZO is the collaborative studio of artists Serge Beaulieu and Yelena Filipchuk. Based in Los Angeles, their work consists of larger than life geometric sculptures, often with pattern and texture that draw on inspirations from mathematics, science, and natural phenomena. Typically illuminated, the work celebrates the inherent beauty of form and pattern and represents their ongoing journey in exploring the myriad dimensions of geometry. HYBYCOZO is short for the Hyperspace Bypass Construction Zone, a nod to their favorite novel (The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy) and was the title of their first installation in 2014. They continue to create under this name. In the novel earth was being destroyed to make way for a bypass. It lead Serge and Yelena to ask what it means to make art at a time where the earth’s hospitable time in the universe may be limited.

Q: Walk us through your creative process?

A: The focus of our creative process is to explore the intricate interplay between geometry, light, space and to inspire contemplation, wonder and a sense of place among our audiences. Geometry and pattern-making serve as the backbone of our creative expression. It is the framework through which we navigate the complexities of form, proportion and spatial relationships. Patterns, both simple and complex, have a profound impact on our perception and understanding of the world. They possess the ability to evoke a sense of order, balance and aesthetic pleasure. Pattern making and geometry offer us a means of storytelling and communication. These patterns serve as conduits for deeper exploration, provoking introspection and contemplation to uncover the underlying symbols embedded within the human psyche.

Q: What inspired the concept of LIGHT BLOOM?

A: Just as many cactus and desert plants have evolved to produce night-blooming flowers, adapting to their environment and thriving in darkness, our sculptures come alive after sunset, blossoming with light and transforming the night into a glowing landscape of art and geometry.

Desert Botanical Garden has an incredible collection of plants and cacti arranged in a beautiful park setting.

I really love my high key images this winter. And of course my images with the 100-400. If you like it say hi at www.instagram.com/t.boeld

Stones embedded in the low tide sand at Jurby Beach on a calm Autumn evening. This shot was taken in the brief but magical blue hour, which never fails to deliver cool hues and tones which are impossible to achieve at any other time of day. I particularly like the subtle sunburst projected through the vibrant post sunset sky in this shot 🌅

A rabbit freezes amongst the grasses.

The reason freezing works as a defense is that a predator’s attack behavior may actually be triggered by motion. Evolution has caused the freeze strategy to come into existence precisely because it fits in with the way the visual systems of predators operate.

As seen in previous photographs, this industrial spur requires the use of a parking lot to get from CSX's Pinoca yard to the industrial park. The only point at which the tracks aren't embedded is right at the switch points (sort of unfortunately). Switch points in the pavement are fairly rare.

At this point, they had just switched Colonial and were coming off the track on the right. TheThe conductor would then throw the switch and they would proceed back into the industrial park (via the track on the left) to work for several hours.
