"Daniel Miller. Killed About 2 a.m. June 17, 1920."

This small metal sign, embedded into the bark of a tree, is located at Lookout Meadow (elev. 9,400) at Philmont Scout Ranch near Cimarron, New Mexico. Lookout Meadow was my favorite location among many great choices in the summer of 1995. I saw three bears in this meadow about an hour before making this shot, and on a later date I was barked at by a buck elk after getting too close to the herd. It's a very remote location, and must've been especially so a hundred years ago. I have no idea what killed Daniel Miller. The date would place this property in private hands and before the ranch was donated to the Boy Scouts of America.

A death in this meadow could have been caused by lightning, exposure, bear, mountain lion, and of course anything else. I'm hoping some Philmont history buff may know what felled Daniel Miller. No idea about the circumstances or the suffering, but if I had a few more seconds or minutes to absorb all I could, I would want to do it right here.

This image was scanned from a 35 mm negative. Taken in July 1995. Developed at the News and Photo Service (NPS) darkroom.

This issue plays around the conceptual universe of Marcel Duchamp. Not his life, nor his works, just some of his concepts.

- the medium, as an intellectual tool which goes beyond its specificity mocking it.

- the work, regardless of its representative and interpretative character.

- “art”, in terms of conventions, as “amorphous” as possible.

- “construction”, in which the work is not it’s purpose, but an excuse.

- interpretations, or rather readings which can coexist despite being seemingly exclusive.

- objects “aesthetically anesthetized,” lapsed in their likely sight complacency; “rectified”, “assisted”, to give them a new –often unusual- significance. As with the choice of “ready-mades”: “based on visual indifference and a total absence of good or bad taste”

- works “definitively unfinished”.

- rrose sélavy, his alter (-) ego.

- chess, optic machines, mathematics, geometry, “artifacts”.

- “mental painting,” “precision painting”, the rejection of any element in which sight can be delighted.

- aesthetics: - text, - blocks, - photographs, + mixed-media, + painting, + illustration.

- the whole magazine, in spanish and english.

Although I've been using texture layers for years, it was only a few months ago that I learned about "luminosity masks." Rather than the texture layer appearing to lay flat on top of the background image (even with different layer blending modes), a luminosity mask helps embed it into the background image by varying the strength of the texture according to the tones of the background. The difference is quite significant. In this case, there are two layers embedded into the background - a texture layer and the yin/yang symbol layer.

This statue of Guy LaFleur by Marc André J Fortier stands at La Place du Centenaire. The Right Winger, a six-time 50-goal scorer and six-time 100-point man, spent 14 seasons with the Canadiens, from 1971-1985, leading the team to five Stanley Cups. He is the team record holder for career assists (728), and points (1,246), as well as the franchise leader for goals (60) and points (136) in a season. The 1977 Conn Smythe Trophy winner, a three-time Art Ross Trophy and two-time Hart Trophy winner, LaFleur was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1988. His #10 was retired by the Montreal Canadiens on February 16, 1985.

La Place du Centenaire (Centennial Plaza), located on De La La Gauchetière and corner of De La Montagne outside La Centre Bell, was inaugurated on December 4, 2008, one year to the day of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Montreal Canadiens. The Plaza features three other bronze monuments, all by Fortier, honoring the Canadiens greatest legends, Howie Morenz, and Maurice "Rocket" Richard, Jean Béliveau. The Royal Canadian Mint created special dollar coins, which are embedded in a commemorative plaque at the foot of each monument along with original five cent circulation coins marking the career of each player.

The Centennial Plaza also includes over 20,000 personalized bricks by Canadiens fans, a plaque describing each of the 24 Stanley Cup Championships, a small monument for each of the 15 Canadiens players who had their jersey retired by the Club, and bricks commemorating the 100 most memorable moments in franchise history.

This ring is from my Embedded series. It is a one-of-a-kind production. The ring was cast in fine silver using the lost wax technique. A volcanic beach pebble is embedded in the silver of the ring.

Probably every person who has worked with stones and metal has longed for the possibility to inset the stone directly into the metal without the obtrusive interference of prongs and bezels. Embedded is my personal fulfillment of this longing. The resulting jewelry gives me great satisfaction

Sydney’s tallest building, Sydney Tower, gets reflected in 20 level office tower. Walking along the Pitt Street at one time I was stunned by clear and almost full size reflection of Sydney Tower in one of the glass buildings nearby. I observed it for a while moving around and noticing how reflection is changing and disappearing at some spots. After that I started to think about capturing the view noticing when would be the best light and the best time. Sometime later with Tower glowing in yellow light of setting sun and sky deeply blue I took around 27 shots handheld from different places to select just a few for further processing.

For this image I chose 9 shots (3 vertical AEB sets with three -2,0,+2EV photos in each). 3 HDR files came out of those 9 images and finally they were stitched into one big HDR panorama. I then tonemapped it lightly and processed to enhance the contrast, color and few minor things like noise and shadows.

How much information can be encrypted ?

How much message stands a message ?

How many readings ?

How far the significant density can be forced / demanded / multiplied ?

How much the content layers add ?

Things you can do with cob. Your imagination is the only limit to what you can do.

JERUSALEM (April 13, 2013) - After returning to Jerusalem, the priest pilgrims made their way to the Dormition Abbey on Mount Zion, the location the Mary, the Blessed Mother of Jesus, is believed to have been assumed into heaven or "fell asleep" ("dormition"). The present church is about 100 years old.

Cardinal Seán and a group of 29 priests of the Archdiocese of Boston have traveled on an Easter pilgrimage to the Holy Land this week, and they're bringing the readers of TheGoodCatholicLife.com blog along with them.

On the sixth day of their pilgrimage, the pilgrims awoke very early in the Holy City of Jerusalem and walked to the Basilica of the Holy Sepulchre where they had the rare privilege of celebrating Mass inside the actual Empty Tomb of our Lord; had a meeting with Fr. Pierbattista Pizzaballa, O.F.M., the Custos of the Holy Land; drove to Bethlehem to visit the birthplace of Jesus in the Basilica of the Nativity; and later traveled back to Jerusalem for a special evening in the Upper Room of the Cenacle, the place where Christ had the Last Supper with the Apostles.

All this week, our colleague George Martell is traveling with the pilgrimage, embedded with the Cardinal and his priests so we can bring you photos, blogs, videos, and audio reports from the Holy Land from the pilgrims at such places as the Basilica of the Annunciation, Mount Carmel, the Sea of Galilee, the Church of the Transfiguration, Qumran, the Mount of Olives, the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, the Upper Room, and more. This once in a lifetime opportunity to walk in the footsteps of Jesus with Cardinal Seán and the Archdiocese's priests as an Easter retreat experience.
