A SpaceX Falcon 9 lifts off from launch pad 39A at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center on the evening of March 30, 2017. This historic launch marks the first time SpaceX has re-used a previously flown first stage. Designated B1021, previously launched NASA’s CRS-8 mission in April 2016, and following the first successful landing on the autonomous spaceport drone ship (ASDS), the stage was brought back to land where it underwent refurbishment and testing to prepare it for the SES-10 mission. The SES-10 communication’s satellite, manufactured by Airbus Defense and Space, will provide coverage for Mexico and the Caribbean, Brazil, and South America.
Better late than never, right?
Delayed by work obligations, these are shots of the Thursday afternoon #CRS19 #Falcon9 #SpaceX rocket launch.
I wasn't able to attend the launch in person, but three cameras set at the pad Wednesday morning braved Florida winter (45 degrees at night = brrr) conditions to capture these images.
Many thanks again to my We Report Space colleagues for doing the heavy lifting for this launch, especially Mike Howard and Scott Schilke waiting around 4 hours after the launch to pick up these cameras.
More from the Saturday night #SpaceX #Falcon9 #Intelsat G33/G34 launch: a 30-second exposure as the rocket leaves the pad, and then a close-up of what 1.7 million pounds of thrust looks like.
Both images were captured with sound-activated cameras left at the pad Thursday.

Elon Musk, SpaceX Chief Engineer participates in a SpaceX Demonstration Mission 2 Launch Briefing at the Neil A. Armstrong Operations and Checkout Building following the departure of NASA astronauts Robert Behnken and Douglas Hurley for Launch Complex 39A to board a SpaceX Crew Dragon spacecraft for launch, Wednesday, May 27, 2020, at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida. NASA’s SpaceX Demo-2 mission is the first launch with astronauts of the SpaceX Crew Dragon spacecraft and Falcon 9 rocket to the International Space Station as part of the agency’s Commercial Crew Program. The test flight serves as an end-to-end demonstration of SpaceX’s crew transportation system. Today’s launch of Behnken and Hurley was scrubbed due to weather and is now scheduled for 3:22 p.m. EDT on Saturday, May 30, from Launch Complex 39A at the Kennedy Space Center. One second
In what will likely be my last #Bangabandhu launch image, I present a sequence taken from may pad remote camera, positioned 1,300 feet from the #SpaceX #Block5 #Falcon9 rocket, launched from LC39A on May 11, 2018. As the title suggests, the photos span just one second as the rocket lifted off the pad.
The Block5 rocket is very easy on the eyes; the black landing legs and interstage are just plain cool. I like the higher logo, but it did cause me to find an L-bracket for this remote, so I could shoot vertically and manage to (barely) keep the logo in the shot.

Thoughts on April 10th
youtu.be/3y-kGHO4GPo?si=V3UDiIkdXsuR5j_f
1. Trump's mutual tariff warhead explodes 😅
Everyone chose it, right? There's nothing we can do about it 😅
2. Elon Musk and Steve Jobs are completely different 😃
Self-driving is just around the corner! It's been a few years since he declared that. Tesla, which is still not yet achieved, and Jobs, who announced it after completely perfecting the iPhone, are completely different.
3. Toyota's new Crown is the crystallization of an artist's spirit that is not afraid of change.
The mindset seen in an SUV that has changed dramatically from the conventional sedan.
4. The collapse of capitalism and the equality brought about by the Internet.
The pursuit of rare earths and the destruction of music and movies by subscription services are bringing changes to capitalism itself.
(We're in the middle of this, so we're arguing a lot 😅)
5. How to raise children and thoughts about children who have grown up
Never nag them. Don't make them shrink. Do everything voluntarily.
Be aware of how to manage your money yourself.
6. Just like the change from Biden to Trump, personnel decisions are not related to ability. 😅
However, I will receive something in return for the effort I put into myself, and contribute that to the future. 😃
It's the same as previous photographers in Japan. I'm just giving up my seat to acquaintances. 😃
7. I don't mind dying when my child graduates from college. 😅 Of course, I'll quit my job right away. 😃 I want to go to New York for a bit. 😃
That's all I said while driving.
If you have a lot of free time, please feel free to read it. 😃

### Will Apple Listen to Mark Zuckerberg’s Criticism?
I Don’t Think So—At Least Not for Someone Enchanted by the Apple Vision Pro.
Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, recently appeared on a well-known podcast, where he criticized Apple for failing to release an innovative product since the iPhone and for experiencing a decline in sales.
Appearing on a podcast originating from Apple and then proceeding to criticize the company might seem like a lighthearted joke, but I believe he was serious.
Why? Because he now wields a weapon—the AR glasses.
With the support of various institutions and a team of highly skilled professionals, he has likely achieved some notable milestones. Yet, as someone who has been a devoted Apple user since the PowerBook 540c, I still do not sense any real craftsmanship or identity in what he creates.
This sentiment extends to other IT giants that currently dominate the world—Meta, Amazon, Tesla, Microsoft, and Google.
Just by listing their names, readers of this text are likely already picturing their respective CEOs.
In the past, I wrote that Steve Jobs was not an artist.
What he excelled at was weaving together scattered ideas from across the world, expanding upon them, and linking them to the future.
The true creator was Jonathan Ive.
A minority of people may share this perspective with me.
However, when I see these IT moguls quickly shifting their corporate stances the moment the possibility of Trump returning to power emerges, I feel compelled to speak my mind.
The AR glasses, the cars—everything they create lacks a fundamental concept.
Call it ideology or, in lighter terms, identity.
It is true that Tim Cook and Apple’s current team have become more prone to letting slip details about upcoming products before their official release.
I have always loved music.
Artists shut themselves in a studio, cutting off the outside world, pouring their anger, hatred, joy, and sorrow into each note with intense focus.
It’s as if they are entrusting something to their music.
And when they finally release their album, they explain the emotions and thoughts behind its creation.
(Prince, whom I admire, rarely spoke about his work, so understanding his art required engaging with the final product itself.)
Until an album is complete and released, artists say nothing.
It was those artists who moved me to my core.
The faint glow of Apple’s innovation still remains within me.
Not even last year’s widely criticized "failure"—the Apple Vision Pro—could extinguish it.
In fact, it shines even brighter than the iPhone.
Because beyond its cutting-edge electronic components, I can sense a concept, an ideology.
Unfortunately, I will never feel the same from Meta’s AR glasses or Tesla’s cars.
I have written at length, but here is the key article:
**Tim Cook Donates Over $1.5 Million to Trump’s Inauguration Ceremony**
🔗 [Gigazine Article](gigazine.net/news/20250104-apple-ceo-tim-cook-donates-1-m...)
At first glance, this might make it seem like Tim Cook, like other tech CEOs, has sold his soul. But that is not the case.
While Cook personally donated to Trump, Apple itself did not follow the same path as other companies.
Apple refused to bow to Trump.
If asked what Apple’s ideology truly is, I would answer this:
**Apple is a group of individuals who believe in themselves.**
Steve Jobs, watching from heaven, is probably chuckling at this overly serious text I wrote.
A company that does not pander to Trump—
That is Apple. :)

8mm film of our honeymoon resurrected after decades.
youtu.be/zH-dG7bMeL4?si=yLF5_f1m-LhAVdPp
We found the 8mm film of our honeymoon for the first time in decades, and burned it onto a DVD.
On June 6, 1993, we got married, and headed straight to Nassau, Bahamas, via New York.
Our destination was the pink sand beach where the late Princess Diana went on her honeymoon.
If you're heading to the Bahamas, this might be a good reference.
The hotel we stayed at was the Ramada Hotel, which no longer exists.
My wife is showing us the hotel room.
But now you can see the beautiful scenery in real time.
When I played the DVD that arrived, it showed footage of our arrival in the Bahamas.
Please take a look if you'd like.
This time, we asked Fujifilm to make the DVD.
I'll post the link below.

Notice regarding "Lot No.402_”.
From now on I will host "Lot No.402_".
The work of Leonardo da Vinci who was sleeping.
That is the number when it was put up for auction.
No sign was written on the work.
So this work couldn't conclude that it was his work.
However # as a result of various appraisals # it was exposed to the sun.
A work that no one notices. A work that speaks quietly without a title.
I will continue to strive to provide it to many people in various ways.

### **Synopsis**
Kei Kitami, a student preparing for university entrance exams, meets Kaori Kamimura, an event companion six years his senior, through social media.
Kaori has come to Tokyo with a dream—to befriend famous artists.
To achieve this, she needs the influence of Ryo Osawa, a well-known radio producer.
During a live radio broadcast, Osawa speaks directly to Kaori:
*"I have a wife and child. But still, I want to see you."*
Meanwhile, Rika Sanjo, Kei’s classmate who secretly harbors feelings for him, is closely watching Kaori’s every move...

Main story
There are two reasons why a person faces the sea.
One to enjoy a slice of shine in the sea like children bubbling over in the beach.
The other to brush the dust of memory like an old man who misses old days staring at the shine
quietly.
Those lead to only one meaning though they do not seem to overlap. It’s a rebirth.
I face myself to change tomorrow a vague day into something certain.
That is the meaning of a rebirth.
I had a very sweet girlfriend when I was 18.
After she left I knew the meaning of gentleness for the first time and also a true pain of loss. After
she left # how many times did I depend too much on her # doubt her # envy her and keep on telling lies
until I realized it is love?
I wonder whether a nobody like me could have given something to her who was struggling in the
daily life in those days. Giving something is arrogant conceit. It is nothing but self-satisfaction.
I had been thinking about such a thing.
However I guess what she saw in me was because I had nothing. That‘s why she tried to see
something in me. Perhaps she found a slight possibility in me # a guy filled with ambiguous unstable
tomorrow. But I wasted days depending too much on her gentleness.
Now I finally can convey how I felt in those days when we met.

www.flickr.com/photos/stealaway/54271473379/in/dateposted...
gigazine.net/news/20250104-apple-ceo-tim-cook-donates-1-m...

youtu.be/zH-dG7bMeL4?si=yLF5_f1m-LhAVdPp

“A.I. - About Apple’s Identity”
www.flickr.com/photos/stealaway/54271473379/in/dateposted...
---
### Will Apple Listen to Mark Zuckerberg’s Criticism?
### January 15
After reading a heartwarming article.

### **Interview and Novel: My Work**
I published a book in the past.
At that time, I uploaded my interview as a PDF online, both in Japanese and English.
Now, I am making it available for free.
More details can be found on Amazon.
**Writing a Novel.**
**Photography Techniques.**
**The Sense of Distance Between the Creator and the Work.**
These all share a common theme.
I put into words the things I felt and left them behind as a record.

Now I finally can convey how I felt in those days when we met.

www.flickr.com/photos/stealaway/54271473379/in/dateposted...
gigazine.net/news/20250104-apple-ceo-tim-cook-donates-1-m...

youtu.be/zH-dG7bMeL4?si=yLF5_f1m-LhAVdPp

www.photosofstuff.xyz/Falcon-Heavy/
At 3:45pm (ET) SpaceX and Elon Musk successfully launched the Falcon Heavy rocket from historic Pad 39A at Nasa's Kennedy Space Center in Florida.. Approximately 8 minutes after launch, the two outer cores would return safely to SpaceX's Landing Zone 1 at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station. According to SpaceX CEO Elon Musk, the center core ran out of fuel needed to relight 3 engines for the re-entry burn. The core was unable to slow its descent and it crashed into the Atlantic Ocean at approximately 300 mph. Musk added that he was most interested in recovering the two outer cores, as they flew with titanium grid fins, which are very expensive to make.
From Cape Canaveral yesterday, President Obama toured the SpaceX facilities with Falcon 9 erect on the pad, and then joined Buzz Aldrin and Elon Musk to present a new vision for NASA.
Elon Musk summarizes: “Today, the President will articulate an ambitious and exciting new plan that will alter our destiny as a species. I believe this address could be as important as President Kennedy's 1962 speech at Rice University. For the first time since Apollo, our country will have a plan for space exploration that inspires and excites all who look to the stars. Even more important, it will work.”
Here is the full text of President Obama’s speech and some excerpts:
“Few people -- present company excluded -- can claim the expertise of Buzz and Bill and Charlie when it comes to space exploration. I have to say that few people are as singularly unimpressed by Air Force One as those three. (Laughter.) Sure, it’s comfortable, but it can’t even reach low Earth orbit. And that obviously is in striking contrast to the Falcon 9 rocket we just saw on the launch pad, which will be tested for the very first time in the coming weeks.
The space race inspired a generation of scientists and innovators, including, I’m sure, many of you. It’s contributed to immeasurable technological advances that have improved our health and well-being, from satellite navigation to water purification, from aerospace manufacturing to medical imaging. Although, I have to say, during a meeting right before I came out on stage somebody said, you know, it’s more than just Tang -- and I had to point out I actually really like Tang. (Laughter.)
For me, the space program has always captured an essential part of what it means to be an American -- reaching for new heights, stretching beyond what previously did not seem possible. And so, as President, I believe that space exploration is not a luxury, it’s not an afterthought in America’s quest for a brighter future -- it is an essential part of that quest.
So today, I’d like to talk about the next chapter in this story.
Let me start by being extremely clear: I am 100 percent committed to the mission of NASA and its future. (Applause.) Because broadening our capabilities in space will continue to serve our society in ways that we can scarcely imagine. Because exploration will once more inspire wonder in a new generation -- sparking passions and launching careers. And because, ultimately, if we fail to press forward in the pursuit of discovery, we are ceding our future and we are ceding that essential element of the American character.
NASA, from the start, several months ago when I issued my budget, was one of the areas where we didn’t just maintain a freeze but we actually increased funding by $6 billion. By doing that we will ramp up robotic exploration of the solar system, including a probe of the Sun’s atmosphere; new scouting missions to Mars and other destinations; and an advanced telescope to follow Hubble, allowing us to peer deeper into the universe than ever before.
We will increase Earth-based observation to improve our understanding of our climate and our world -- science that will garner tangible benefits, helping us to protect our environment for future generations.
And we will extend the life of the International Space Station likely by more than five years, while actually using it for its intended purpose: conducting advanced research that can help improve the daily lives of people here on Earth, as well as testing and improving upon our capabilities in space. This includes technologies like more efficient life support systems that will help reduce the cost of future missions. And in order to reach the space station, we will work with a growing array of private companies competing to make getting to space easier and more affordable. (Applause.)
Now, I recognize that some have said it is unfeasible or unwise to work with the private sector in this way. I disagree. The truth is, NASA has always relied on private industry to help design and build the vehicles that carry astronauts to space, from the Mercury capsule that carried John Glenn into orbit nearly 50 years ago, to the space shuttle Discovery currently orbiting overhead. By buying the services of space transportation -- rather than the vehicles themselves -- we can continue to ensure rigorous safety standards are met. But we will also accelerate the pace of innovations as companies -- from young startups to established leaders -- compete to design and build and launch new means of carrying people and materials out of our atmosphere.
Next, we will invest more than $3 billion to conduct research on an advanced “heavy lift rocket” -- a vehicle to efficiently send into orbit the crew capsules, propulsion systems, and large quantities of supplies needed to reach deep space. In developing this new vehicle, we will not only look at revising or modifying older models; we want to look at new designs, new materials, new technologies that will transform not just where we can go but what we can do when we get there. And we will finalize a rocket design no later than 2015 and then begin to build it. (Applause.)
So the point is what we’re looking for is not just to continue on the same path -- we want to leap into the future; we want major breakthroughs; a transformative agenda for NASA. (Applause.)
The bottom line is nobody is more committed to manned space flight, to human exploration of space than I am. (Applause.) But we’ve got to do it in a smart way, and we can’t just keep on doing the same old things that we’ve been doing and thinking that somehow is going to get us to where we want to go.
Some have said, for instance, that this plan gives up our leadership in space by failing to produce plans within NASA to reach low Earth orbit, instead of relying on companies and other countries. But we will actually reach space faster and more often under this new plan, in ways that will help us improve our technological capacity and lower our costs, which are both essential for the long-term sustainability of space flight. In fact, through our plan, we’ll be sending many more astronauts to space over the next decade. (Applause.)
There are also those who criticized our decision to end parts of Constellation as one that will hinder space exploration beyond low Earth orbit. But it’s precisely by investing in groundbreaking research and innovative companies that we will have the potential to rapidly transform our capabilities -- even as we build on the important work already completed, through projects like Orion, for future missions. And unlike the previous program, we are setting a course with specific and achievable milestones.
Early in the next decade, a set of crewed flights will test and prove the systems required for exploration beyond low Earth orbit. (Applause.) And by 2025, we expect new spacecraft designed for long journeys to allow us to begin the first-ever crewed missions beyond the Moon into deep space. (Applause.) So we’ll start -- we’ll start by sending astronauts to an asteroid for the first time in history. (Applause.) By the mid-2030s, I believe we can send humans to orbit Mars and return them safely to Earth. And a landing on Mars will follow. And I expect to be around to see it. (Applause.)
But I want to repeat -- I want to repeat this: Critical to deep space exploration will be the development of breakthrough propulsion systems and other advanced technologies. So I’m challenging NASA to break through these barriers. And we’ll give you the resources to break through these barriers. And I know you will, with ingenuity and intensity, because that’s what you’ve always done. (Applause.)
So this is the next chapter that we can write together here at NASA. We will partner with industry. We will invest in cutting-edge research and technology. We will set far-reaching milestones and provide the resources to reach those milestones. And step by step, we will push the boundaries not only of where we can go but what we can do.
Fifty years after the creation of NASA, our goal is no longer just a destination to reach. Our goal is the capacity for people to work and learn and operate and live safely beyond the Earth for extended periods of time, ultimately in ways that are more sustainable and even indefinite. And in fulfilling this task, we will not only extend humanity’s reach in space -- we will strengthen America’s leadership here on Earth.
Now, I’ll close by saying this. I know that some Americans have asked a question that’s particularly apt on Tax Day: Why spend money on NASA at all? Why spend money solving problems in space when we don’t lack for problems to solve here on the ground? And obviously our country is still reeling from the worst economic turmoil we’ve known in generations. We have massive structural deficits that have to be closed in the coming years.
But you and I know this is a false choice. We have to fix our economy. We need to close our deficits. But for pennies on the dollar, the space program has fueled jobs and entire industries. For pennies on the dollar, the space program has improved our lives, advanced our society, strengthened our economy, and inspired generations of Americans. And I have no doubt that NASA can continue to fulfill this role. (Applause.) But that is why -- but I want to say clearly to those of you who work for NASA, but to the entire community that has been so supportive of the space program in this area: That is exactly why it’s so essential that we pursue a new course and that we revitalize NASA and its mission -- not just with dollars, but with clear aims and a larger purpose.
Now, little more than 40 years ago, astronauts descended the nine-rung ladder of the lunar module called Eagle, and allowed their feet to touch the dusty surface of the Earth’s only Moon. This was the culmination of a daring and perilous gambit -- of an endeavor that pushed the boundaries of our knowledge, of our technological prowess, of our very capacity as human beings to solve problems. It wasn’t just the greatest achievement in NASA’s history -- it was one of the greatest achievements in human history.
And the question for us now is whether that was the beginning of something or the end of something. I choose to believe it was only the beginning.”
This is a 20-second exposure of the #CRS13 #Falcon9 launch.
At 10:36 am on December 15, 2017, SpaceX successfully launched the #CRS13 payload atop a "flight-proven" Falcon9 booster. The Dragon capsule (also flight-proven) is bound for the International Space Station and contains scientific experiments and supplies for the astronauts onboard.
This launch was the debut of the renovated SLC-40, which has been undergoing repairs following a pad mishap on September 1, 2016.
Approximately 9 minutes later, the Falcon9 first stage would successfully land at SpaceX's "LZ1," treating the Space Coast of Florida to two sonic booms as the first stage descended.
A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket launched at 11:01 PM on 12-18-23. The spacecraft was carrying StarLink satellites into orbit. The first stage booster landed on the drone ship A Shortfall of Gravitas which was just north of the Bahamas. This image was taken in Vero Beach, Florida which is about 70 miles south of the launch site.

At 11:17 am (EDT) on Friday, April 8, 2022, a SpaceX Falcon9 rocket lifted off from historic LC-39A at NASA's Kennedy Space Center. This successful launch resulted in the Crew Dragon capsule and its all-private crew of four making it to orbit. The Axiom Space Ax-1 mission crew members Michael López-Alegría, Larry Connor, Mark Pathy, and Eytan Stibbe will dock at the International Space Station, spending more than a week conducting scientific research, outreach, and commercial activities on the space station.
Well, that was really something.
Yesterday's Tesla Cybertruck launch was certainly eye opening.
I, like many, was wondering when Elon Musk was going to say "Just kidding. It actually looks like this...."
But he didn't.
The specification though, was very impressive. From the corrosion resistant stainless steel bodywork, high-strength windows (despite the unexpected failure when designer Franz von Holzhausen threw the ball at the side windows), and air suspensions which could raise and lower the truck.
Tesla's raison d'être though, is vehicle electrification. Here Musk's vision of an emissions-free world including light-duty trucks led to the creation of the Cybertruck.
To this end, the Cybertruck includes a large battery, providing a vehicle range between 250 miles and 500 miles, depending on the specification. One clear transformation in electric vehicles is startling performance, and the Cybertruck impresses with a 0-60 mph time of 2.9 sec in the highest spec tri-motor model. Even base model performance equals the quickest internal combustion pickup models from competitors.
However, all this was somewhat overshadowed by what everybody watching the launch could see - a vehicle which looked unlike any pickup you had ever seen before, save for perhaps in a sci-fi film set in the future. It was obvious that even the crowd, many of whom were Tesla employees, were clearly shocked at what they saw.
And perhaps this was the point. The Cybertruck is a compelling vision of what a pickup from the future could be. That future is coming sooner than many would believe, thanks to Tesla and the many projects the company has worked on to deliver in the past decade or so.
Still, I was waiting for Elon to roll out the real truck.
[P.S. I know it is very early in the piece to admit this, but the more I look at it the more it grows on me.]
Kennedy Space Center, FL. – At 5:56 pm (ET), January 15, 2023, SpaceX launched its Falcon Heavy and a top-secret mission titled USSF-67 at Launch Complex 39-A. The mission was for the National Security Space Launch (NSSL) and SpaceX's second launch using the Falcon 9 Heavy for the NSSL. This was the fifth launch of a Falcon 9 Heavy by SpaceX and the second in less than three months. On board were two payloads for NSSL, one being a military communications satellite. The side boosters for this mission supported USSF-44 which launched on November 1, 2022. While the center booster core was deemed expendable, the side boosters successfully landed shortly after launch at LZ-1 and LZ-2. In a statement from Assured Access to Space: "We had another fantastic launch today on a Falcon Heavy, just two months after our first National Security Space Launch mission using this launch system, and while the launch itself was impressive, I am most proud of the fact that we placed important capabilities into space that help our nation stay ahead of very real and growing threats," said Maj. Gen. Stephen Purdy, program executive officer for Assured Access to Space. "We're certainly on a roll with 96 consecutive successful national security space launches, and the takeaway is that we've really got a spectacular team working together on our most challenging launch profiles to ensure our mission partners get on orbit with confidence." Later this week, SpaceX has two additional launches scheduled, the GPS-III-6 from Cape Canaveral SFS and Starlink Group 2-4 from Vandenberg S.F.S. in California.
