Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, FL. – This afternoon, June 17, 2021, SpaceX launched the Global Positioning Satellite (GPS) III-5 Mission. The previously flown Falcon 9 booster roared to life at 12:09 PM EDT from launch complex 40. The GPS III-5 was built by Lockheed Martin for both military and civilian uses was placed into orbit and shortly after launch, the first stage made a successful landing on the recovery ship “Just Read the Instructions”.

This is the daytime streak shot I had in mind when I set my camera yesterday for the #SpaceX #CRS12 #Falcon9 launch. It is essentially the streak I've seen from Ben Cooper and Bill Ingalls, except my recollection is that they had their streaks terminating in the clouds. Yesterday, there were no clouds in the flight path and it just looked like the streak flew out of frame, so my initial reaction was to composite in the second frame for a longer streak.
But, after sleeping on it (and seeing Trevor Mahlmann's amazing close-up streak), I like this tighter crop of the single frame better than my composite.
Specs: ISO100, f18, 30-second exposure, shot through a 10-stop ND filter with a 17-40mm L-series lens on a full-frame Canon camera.

This photo is a composite of 31 images I started shooting on the camera I had set up to catch a streak of the #SES9 #Falcon9 launch by #SpaceX. The launch was aborted just after ignition at 7:21pm and with some quick adjustments to the settings I was able to capture 17 minutes of the stars seen through a very clear sky before we had to leave the base. The bright lights to the left are illuminating the Falcon9 rocket, still very much on the pad and the structure lit in orange (to the right of center) is LC-37. And, if you look closely you can also see blue on the horizon - that's the flashing lights of base security, positioned around Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, blocking roads leading the LC-40 where the Falcon9 will launch from.
At 7:21pm (ET) on May 15, 2017, SpaceX successfully launched the #INMARSAT5 #Inmarsat5F4 #I5F4 #Falcon9 satellite from Launch Complex 39A at NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida.
This is a merge of several photos of the rocket shot at 400mm, in order to create this large (6116x18381), high-resolution panorama.

### Will Apple Listen to Mark Zuckerberg’s Criticism?
I Don’t Think So—At Least Not for Someone Enchanted by the Apple Vision Pro.
Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, recently appeared on a well-known podcast, where he criticized Apple for failing to release an innovative product since the iPhone and for experiencing a decline in sales.
Appearing on a podcast originating from Apple and then proceeding to criticize the company might seem like a lighthearted joke, but I believe he was serious.
Why? Because he now wields a weapon—the AR glasses.
With the support of various institutions and a team of highly skilled professionals, he has likely achieved some notable milestones. Yet, as someone who has been a devoted Apple user since the PowerBook 540c, I still do not sense any real craftsmanship or identity in what he creates.
This sentiment extends to other IT giants that currently dominate the world—Meta, Amazon, Tesla, Microsoft, and Google.
Just by listing their names, readers of this text are likely already picturing their respective CEOs.
In the past, I wrote that Steve Jobs was not an artist.
What he excelled at was weaving together scattered ideas from across the world, expanding upon them, and linking them to the future.
The true creator was Jonathan Ive.
A minority of people may share this perspective with me.
However, when I see these IT moguls quickly shifting their corporate stances the moment the possibility of Trump returning to power emerges, I feel compelled to speak my mind.
The AR glasses, the cars—everything they create lacks a fundamental concept.
Call it ideology or, in lighter terms, identity.
It is true that Tim Cook and Apple’s current team have become more prone to letting slip details about upcoming products before their official release.
I have always loved music.
Artists shut themselves in a studio, cutting off the outside world, pouring their anger, hatred, joy, and sorrow into each note with intense focus.
It’s as if they are entrusting something to their music.
And when they finally release their album, they explain the emotions and thoughts behind its creation.
(Prince, whom I admire, rarely spoke about his work, so understanding his art required engaging with the final product itself.)
Until an album is complete and released, artists say nothing.
It was those artists who moved me to my core.
The faint glow of Apple’s innovation still remains within me.
Not even last year’s widely criticized "failure"—the Apple Vision Pro—could extinguish it.
In fact, it shines even brighter than the iPhone.
Because beyond its cutting-edge electronic components, I can sense a concept, an ideology.
Unfortunately, I will never feel the same from Meta’s AR glasses or Tesla’s cars.

We found the 8mm film of our honeymoon for the first time in decades, and burned it onto a DVD.
On June 6, 1993, we got married, and headed straight to Nassau, Bahamas, via New York.
Our destination was the pink sand beach where the late Princess Diana went on her honeymoon.
If you're heading to the Bahamas, this might be a good reference.
The hotel we stayed at was the Ramada Hotel, which no longer exists.
My wife is showing us the hotel room.
But now you can see the beautiful scenery in real time.
When I played the DVD that arrived, it showed footage of our arrival in the Bahamas.

自動運転はもう間近！ と公言してから数年。いまだ達成できないテスラとアイフォンを完全に完成させてから発表したジョブズはまるで異なる。
３ トヨタの新型クラウンは、変化を恐れないアーティスト精神の結晶
従来のセダンから大きく変化させたSUVに見るその心得。
４ 資本主義の崩壊・インターネットがもたらした平等
レアアースの追求・サブスクが破壊した音楽・映画のあり方は、資本主義そのもののに変化をもたらしている。

マークザッカーバーグ氏の批判に、アップルは耳を傾けるだろうか。
僕にはそう思えない。アップルヴィジョンプロに夢を見せられた僕には。
メタのマークザッカーバーグ氏は、有名なポッドキャストに出演し、アップルはアイフォン以来革新的な製品を発売せず、売り上げも落ちていると批判したようだ。
アップル発祥のポッドキャストに現れ、アップルを批判すると言うのは軽いジョークに思えるが、真剣に訴えたんだろうと僕は思う。
なぜなら、今の彼はARグラスという武器を手にしているからだ。
おそらく、さまざまな関係機関や優秀なスタッフが彼を支え、それなりの目標を達成したんだろうが、パワーブック５４０cから使い続けてきた僕のような古いアップルファンからしてみれば、まだ物作りのアイデンティを彼からはまったく感じない。
これは他の、現在世界を制覇しているIT企業らも含む。
メタ、アマゾン、テスラ。マイクロソフト。グーグル。
社名が並ぶだけで、このテキストを読まれている方は名前と顔をすでに浮かべているはずだ。
僕は以前、スティーブ・ジョブズはアーティストではないと書いた。
彼は、現世界に散らばったイメージを紡ぎ合わせ、それを膨らます。そして未来へリンクさせる。それが得意だっただけだ。
実際に創作していたのはジョナサンアイブだ。少数ながらも僕のような意見を持っている方もいるだろう。
しかし、先述したIT関連の面々が、トランプ氏に再び権力が戻るとなった途端に会社の方針を覆す様子を見ていると、僕は一言、どうしても意見したいのだ。
彼らが作ったARグラスや車などには、肝心な観念が欠けている。思想という重い言葉や、軽めのアイデンティティと言い換えてもいい。
確かに、ティムクック氏やアップルの現在のスタッフらは、発売前の商品に関して口を滑らせることが多くなった。
僕は、以前から書いているように音楽が大好きだ。
外界を断ち、アーティストらがスタジオにこもって、怒りや憎しみ、喜びや悲しみを一心不乱になって一音に吹き込む。何かを託すと言ってもいい。
そして、完成したアルバムを発表し、どんな思いを込めて制作したのかを語る。（僕が好きなプリンスはほとんど語らなかったので、完成された作品を理解する必要があった）
アルバムが完成し、発表するまで、彼らはひとことも語らない。
僕の胸を震わせたのは、そんなアーティストらだった。
僕の中に淡く灯っているアップルの革新性は、いまでも消えていない。
それは昨年、大失敗だと批判されたアップルヴィジョンプロでさえも消すことはできない。むしろ、アイフォン以上の強烈な光を放っている。
ただの斬新な電化製品ではなく、細かな電気部品の向こうに観念や思想を感じるからだ。
残念ながら、メタのARグラスやテスラの車に、僕がその観念や思想を感じることは今後もないだろう。
長々と書いてきたが、結論は以下の記事だ。

一読すると、ティムクック氏も他のIT会社同様、魂を売ったのかと思われるがそうではない。

アップルは、トランプ氏になびかなかったのだ。
アップル社の観念や思想とは、具体的に何かと訊かれたら、僕はこう答える。
アップルとは、自分自身を信じる人間が集まっているグループだ。
たぶん、天国のスティーブ・ジョブズは、僕がクソ真面目に書いたテキストを、鼻で笑っていることだろう。
トランプ氏に媚びない会社。
それがAppleさ。:)

１９９３年６月６日、僕らは結婚し、そのままニューヨークを経由して、バハマのナッソーへ向かいました。
目的地は、亡くなられたダイアナ妃が新婚旅行へ向かったピンクサンドビーチです。
もしもこれからバハマへ向かうならば、参考に見てもよいかもしれません。
泊まったホテルは、今はもうないラマダホテル。
妻がホテルの部屋を紹介しています。
でも、今はリアルタイムで美しい景色が見られますね。
届いたDVDを再生したら、バハマに到着したところからの映像でした。

あらすじ
大学を目指している北見ケイは、SNS上で、6歳年上のイベントコンパニオン、上村香織に出会う。
上京してきた香織の夢は、有名なアーティストの友達になるためだ。
そのためにはラジオ局のプロデューサー、大沢亮の存在が必要だった。
大沢は、ラジオの生放送中、香織へ語りかける。
「僕には妻子がある。しかし、僕は君に会いたいと思っている」
ケイの同級生で、彼を想っている三條里香は、香織の動向を探っていた。。。。。
本編
人が海へ向かう理由には、二つある。
ひとつは、波打ち際ではしゃぐ子供のように、今の瞬間の海の輝きを楽しむこと。
もうひとつは、その輝きを静かに見据えて、過ぎ去った日々を懐かしむ老人のように記憶の埃を払うこと。
二つは重なり合わないようではあるけれども、たったひとつの意味しか生まない。
再生だ。
明日っていう、曖昧な日を確実なものへと変えてゆくために、自分の存在に向き合う。
それが再生の意味だ。
十八歳だった僕には大切な人がいた。

July 4th, 2020 started in fine form as the SpaceX Fleet returned to Port Canaveral carrying the recently launched and landed GPSIII Falcon9 booster. The rocket landed on the drone ship "Just Read The Instructions."
It was a busy morning, as just before the JRTI entered port, the other drone ship "Of Course I Still Love You" disembarked in preparation for the Starlink booster landing next week.

Self-driving is just around the corner! It's been a few years since he declared that. Tesla, which is still not yet achieved, and Jobs, who announced it after completely perfecting the iPhone, are completely different.

The mindset seen in an SUV that has changed dramatically from the conventional sedan.

### Will Apple Listen to Mark Zuckerberg’s Criticism?
I Don’t Think So—At Least Not for Someone Enchanted by the Apple Vision Pro.
Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, recently appeared on a well-known podcast, where he criticized Apple for failing to release an innovative product since the iPhone and for experiencing a decline in sales.
Appearing on a podcast originating from Apple and then proceeding to criticize the company might seem like a lighthearted joke, but I believe he was serious.
Why? Because he now wields a weapon—the AR glasses.
With the support of various institutions and a team of highly skilled professionals, he has likely achieved some notable milestones. Yet, as someone who has been a devoted Apple user since the PowerBook 540c, I still do not sense any real craftsmanship or identity in what he creates.
This sentiment extends to other IT giants that currently dominate the world—Meta, Amazon, Tesla, Microsoft, and Google.
Just by listing their names, readers of this text are likely already picturing their respective CEOs.
In the past, I wrote that Steve Jobs was not an artist.
What he excelled at was weaving together scattered ideas from across the world, expanding upon them, and linking them to the future.
The true creator was Jonathan Ive.
A minority of people may share this perspective with me.
However, when I see these IT moguls quickly shifting their corporate stances the moment the possibility of Trump returning to power emerges, I feel compelled to speak my mind.
The AR glasses, the cars—everything they create lacks a fundamental concept.
Call it ideology or, in lighter terms, identity.
It is true that Tim Cook and Apple’s current team have become more prone to letting slip details about upcoming products before their official release.
I have always loved music.
Artists shut themselves in a studio, cutting off the outside world, pouring their anger, hatred, joy, and sorrow into each note with intense focus.
It’s as if they are entrusting something to their music.
And when they finally release their album, they explain the emotions and thoughts behind its creation.

8mm film of our honeymoon resurrected after decades.

We found the 8mm film of our honeymoon for the first time in decades, and burned it onto a DVD.
On June 6, 1993, we got married, and headed straight to Nassau, Bahamas, via New York.
Our destination was the pink sand beach where the late Princess Diana went on her honeymoon.
If you're heading to the Bahamas, this might be a good reference.
The hotel we stayed at was the Ramada Hotel, which no longer exists.
My wife is showing us the hotel room.
But now you can see the beautiful scenery in real time.

マークザッカーバーグ氏の批判に、アップルは耳を傾けるだろうか。
僕にはそう思えない。アップルヴィジョンプロに夢を見せられた僕には。
メタのマークザッカーバーグ氏は、有名なポッドキャストに出演し、アップルはアイフォン以来革新的な製品を発売せず、売り上げも落ちていると批判したようだ。
アップル発祥のポッドキャストに現れ、アップルを批判すると言うのは軽いジョークに思えるが、真剣に訴えたんだろうと僕は思う。
なぜなら、今の彼はARグラスという武器を手にしているからだ。
おそらく、さまざまな関係機関や優秀なスタッフが彼を支え、それなりの目標を達成したんだろうが、パワーブック５４０cから使い続けてきた僕のような古いアップルファンからしてみれば、まだ物作りのアイデンティを彼からはまったく感じない。
これは他の、現在世界を制覇しているIT企業らも含む。
メタ、アマゾン、テスラ。マイクロソフト。グーグル。
社名が並ぶだけで、このテキストを読まれている方は名前と顔をすでに浮かべているはずだ。
僕は以前、スティーブ・ジョブズはアーティストではないと書いた。
彼は、現世界に散らばったイメージを紡ぎ合わせ、それを膨らます。そして未来へリンクさせる。それが得意だっただけだ。
実際に創作していたのはジョナサンアイブだ。少数ながらも僕のような意見を持っている方もいるだろう。
しかし、先述したIT関連の面々が、トランプ氏に再び権力が戻るとなった途端に会社の方針を覆す様子を見ていると、僕は一言、どうしても意見したいのだ。
彼らが作ったARグラスや車などには、肝心な観念が欠けている。思想という重い言葉や、軽めのアイデンティティと言い換えてもいい。
確かに、ティムクック氏やアップルの現在のスタッフらは、発売前の商品に関して口を滑らせることが多くなった。
僕は、以前から書いているように音楽が大好きだ。
外界を断ち、アーティストらがスタジオにこもって、怒りや憎しみ、喜びや悲しみを一心不乱になって一音に吹き込む。何かを託すと言ってもいい。
そして、完成したアルバムを発表し、どんな思いを込めて制作したのかを語る。（僕が好きなプリンスはほとんど語らなかったので、完成された作品を理解する必要があった）
アルバムが完成し、発表するまで、彼らはひとことも語らない。
僕の胸を震わせたのは、そんなアーティストらだった。
僕の中に淡く灯っているアップルの革新性は、いまでも消えていない。
それは昨年、大失敗だと批判されたアップルヴィジョンプロでさえも消すことはできない。むしろ、アイフォン以上の強烈な光を放っている。
ただの斬新な電化製品ではなく、細かな電気部品の向こうに観念や思想を感じるからだ。
残念ながら、メタのARグラスやテスラの車に、僕がその観念や思想を感じることは今後もないだろう。

あらすじ
大学を目指している北見ケイは、SNS上で、6歳年上のイベントコンパニオン、上村香織に出会う。
上京してきた香織の夢は、有名なアーティストの友達になるためだ。
そのためにはラジオ局のプロデューサー、大沢亮の存在が必要だった。
大沢は、ラジオの生放送中、香織へ語りかける。
「僕には妻子がある。しかし、僕は君に会いたいと思っている」
ケイの同級生で、彼を想っている三條里香は、香織の動向を探っていた。。。。。
本編
人が海へ向かう理由には、二つある。
ひとつは、波打ち際ではしゃぐ子供のように、今の瞬間の海の輝きを楽しむこと。
もうひとつは、その輝きを静かに見据えて、過ぎ去った日々を懐かしむ老人のように記憶の埃を払うこと。
二つは重なり合わないようではあるけれども、たったひとつの意味しか生まない。
再生だ。
明日っていう、曖昧な日を確実なものへと変えてゆくために、自分の存在に向き合う。
それが再生の意味だ。
十八歳だった僕には大切な人がいた。

Well, that was really something.
Yesterday's Tesla Cybertruck launch was certainly eye opening.
I, like many, was wondering when Elon Musk was going to say "Just kidding. It actually looks like this...."
But he didn't.
The specification though, was very impressive. From the corrosion resistant stainless steel bodywork, high-strength windows (despite the unexpected failure when designer Franz von Holzhausen threw the ball at the side windows), and air suspensions which could raise and lower the truck.
Tesla's raison d'être though, is vehicle electrification. Here Musk's vision of an emissions-free world including light-duty trucks led to the creation of the Cybertruck.
To this end, the Cybertruck includes a large battery, providing a vehicle range between 250 miles and 500 miles, depending on the specification. One clear transformation in electric vehicles is startling performance, and the Cybertruck impresses with a 0-60 mph time of 2.9 sec in the highest spec tri-motor model. Even base model performance equals the quickest internal combustion pickup models from competitors.
However, all this was somewhat overshadowed by what everybody watching the launch could see - a vehicle which looked unlike any pickup you had ever seen before, save for perhaps in a sci-fi film set in the future. It was obvious that even the crowd, many of whom were Tesla employees, were clearly shocked at what they saw.
And perhaps this was the point. The Cybertruck is a compelling vision of what a pickup from the future could be. That future is coming sooner than many would believe, thanks to Tesla and the many projects the company has worked on to deliver in the past decade or so.
Still, I was waiting for Elon to roll out the real truck.
[P.S. I know it is very early in the piece to admit this, but the more I look at it the more it grows on me.]

A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket carrying several Starlink satellites into orbit on July 28, 2024. This is a wider view than the previous image. Next launch attempt this evening from Cape Canaveral. This image was shot from Vero Beach.
Like many of my colleagues, I'm waiting for news regarding the date for the next #SES9 rocket launch attempt, and as I'm waiting I'm fiddling with pictures from the last two non-launches.
So with a nod to Trevor Mahlmann (who first pointed out that the shots could, essentially, be combined) and Lloyd Behrendt who is the master of the artistic photo, I present here a merge of 3 images taken last night of the #Falcon9. The first was taken at 5:50pm in bright sunlight, the second was taken at 6:08pm (as the sun was setting) and the last was taken at 7:14pm (in darkness). I aligned the images (as layers) in Photoshop and then blended the layers using the "hard light" mode, and this is the result.

Steve demonstrates the cork screw rocket my son Alexis (on the right) and I built. This rocket flies on a G motor, the biggest motor of the mid-power class. We mounted the fins with a small slant, so the rocket cork-screws on the way up - always an eye pleaser.

SpaceX Falcon 9 in Port with some North Star Trails. (Full disclosure: I've taken some liberties with this image, AKA how I deal with missing epic shots of a rocket arriving in port at sunset.)
I wasn't able to see the #SpaceX #KoreaSat5A #Falcon9 arrive in port last Thursday (11/2) night because I had a previously scheduled dinner for work. (The Health First Foundation was recognized with a Humanitarian award; it was lovely.) The sunset arrival was beautiful, and well-covered by many excellent photographers, too many to mention here (but I will note that Julian Leek was one of the few I saw who managed to work the nearly full and rising Moon into his shots.)
I did manage to make it to Port Canaveral late that evening to see the landed first stage and snapped some images. In the sky, in the general direction of the rocket was, in fact, Polaris, aka The North Star.
So, that's what this interpretation represents: one hour of star trails (literally) above the rocket. I say literally because I wasn't getting great long exposures pointed directly at the rocket, so, this is a composite of two frames. The first is with the rocket (ISO2500, f4, 1/6 sec at 70mm) and then the second was taken just above the freight crane (ISO640, f2.8, 4 secs at 70mm). I didn't have time to hang around for an hour (I had a 7:30 am meeting the next day.), so using Photoshop, I "turned" that star field around the North Star 15 degrees, creating fake but generally accurate star trails. And then that became the sky behind the rocket using a tedious layer mask.
I'll add that after Googling how to do this, it seems that the fake star trail method is used more often than I realize, and many photographers aren't inclined to disclose their process.

The FAA has lifted launch restrictions put in place after a mishap with a Falcon 9 launch at SpaceX's California launch site. SpaceX wasted no time after approval and launched several Starlink satellites aboard a Falcon 9 rocket at 1:45 AM, on July 27th 2024, from Cape Canaveral, Florida. This was the View from Vero Beach which is about 70 miles south of the launch site.
This is a daytime streak of the #IntelSat35e #Falcon9 launch by #SpaceX on the evening of July 5, 2017. After 2 previous launch attempts, the third attempt was successfulm with the rocket lifting off at 7:38pm (ET). This is a 117-second exposure seen from the Rocket Garden at Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex. Quite simply, there is a lot of rocket history in this frame. Because the launch was approximately 45 minutes before sunset, this long exposure required a 10-stop neutral density filter. Other settings: ISO100, f22 and 117 second exposure. I was capturing some sunset pictures at La Jolla shores. When I was about to leave the beach, I saw something special rising over the Ocean. I turned around to the beach and captured the whole process. Later, I searched on internet and learned that it was the launch of Falcon 9 by Space X at Vandenberg Air force base. It was so cool to witness this.

I remixed NASA Cassini spacecraft raw footage of Saturn and its rings and moons, real Saturnian space sound, music from Max Richter (Written On The Sky from his 2004 album The Blue Notebooks) and Carl Sagan's voice (sourced from the audio version of his book The Pale Blue Dot) to pay a humble tribute to NASA's stellar science mission which culminated in a grand finale with the spacecraft disintegrating into Saturn on 15th September, 2017. My video homage ends with a prospect of Earth seen beyond the Rings of Saturn.

I Don’t Think So—At Least Not for Someone Enchanted by the Apple Vision Pro.
Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, recently appeared on a well-known podcast, where he criticized Apple for failing to release an innovative product since the iPhone and for experiencing a decline in sales.
Appearing on a podcast originating from Apple and then proceeding to criticize the company might seem like a lighthearted joke, but I believe he was serious.
Why? Because he now wields a weapon—the AR glasses.
With the support of various institutions and a team of highly skilled professionals, he has likely achieved some notable milestones. Yet, as someone who has been a devoted Apple user since the PowerBook 540c, I still do not sense any real craftsmanship or identity in what he creates.
This sentiment extends to other IT giants that currently dominate the world—Meta, Amazon, Tesla, Microsoft, and Google.
Just by listing their names, readers of this text are likely already picturing their respective CEOs.
In the past, I wrote that Steve Jobs was not an artist.
What he excelled at was weaving together scattered ideas from across the world, expanding upon them, and linking them to the future.
The true creator was Jonathan Ive.
A minority of people may share this perspective with me.
However, when I see these IT moguls quickly shifting their corporate stances the moment the possibility of Trump returning to power emerges, I feel compelled to speak my mind.
The AR glasses, the cars—everything they create lacks a fundamental concept.
Call it ideology or, in lighter terms, identity.
It is true that Tim Cook and Apple’s current team have become more prone to letting slip details about upcoming products before their official release.
I have always loved music.
Artists shut themselves in a studio, cutting off the outside world, pouring their anger, hatred, joy, and sorrow into each note with intense focus.
It’s as if they are entrusting something to their music.
And when they finally release their album, they explain the emotions and thoughts behind its creation.
(Prince, whom I admire, rarely spoke about his work, so understanding his art required engaging with the final product itself.)
Until an album is complete and released, artists say nothing.
It was those artists who moved me to my core.
The faint glow of Apple’s innovation still remains within me.
Not even last year’s widely criticized "failure"—the Apple Vision Pro—could extinguish it.
In fact, it shines even brighter than the iPhone.
Because beyond its cutting-edge electronic components, I can sense a concept, an ideology.
Unfortunately, I will never feel the same from Meta’s AR glasses or Tesla’s cars.

8mm film of our honeymoon resurrected after decades.

We found the 8mm film of our honeymoon for the first time in decades, and burned it onto a DVD.
On June 6, 1993, we got married, and headed straight to Nassau, Bahamas, via New York.
Our destination was the pink sand beach where the late Princess Diana went on her honeymoon.

The hotel we stayed at was the Ramada Hotel, which no longer exists.
My wife is showing us the hotel room.
But now you can see the beautiful scenery in real time.

僕にはそう思えない。アップルヴィジョンプロに夢を見せられた僕には。
メタのマークザッカーバーグ氏は、有名なポッドキャストに出演し、アップルはアイフォン以来革新的な製品を発売せず、売り上げも落ちていると批判したようだ。
アップル発祥のポッドキャストに現れ、アップルを批判すると言うのは軽いジョークに思えるが、真剣に訴えたんだろうと僕は思う。
なぜなら、今の彼はARグラスという武器を手にしているからだ。
おそらく、さまざまな関係機関や優秀なスタッフが彼を支え、それなりの目標を達成したんだろうが、パワーブック５４０cから使い続けてきた僕のような古いアップルファンからしてみれば、まだ物作りのアイデンティを彼からはまったく感じない。
これは他の、現在世界を制覇しているIT企業らも含む。
メタ、アマゾン、テスラ。マイクロソフト。グーグル。
社名が並ぶだけで、このテキストを読まれている方は名前と顔をすでに浮かべているはずだ。
僕は以前、スティーブ・ジョブズはアーティストではないと書いた。
彼は、現世界に散らばったイメージを紡ぎ合わせ、それを膨らます。そして未来へリンクさせる。それが得意だっただけだ。
実際に創作していたのはジョナサンアイブだ。少数ながらも僕のような意見を持っている方もいるだろう。
しかし、先述したIT関連の面々が、トランプ氏に再び権力が戻るとなった途端に会社の方針を覆す様子を見ていると、僕は一言、どうしても意見したいのだ。
彼らが作ったARグラスや車などには、肝心な観念が欠けている。思想という重い言葉や、軽めのアイデンティティと言い換えてもいい。
確かに、ティムクック氏やアップルの現在のスタッフらは、発売前の商品に関して口を滑らせることが多くなった。
僕は、以前から書いているように音楽が大好きだ。
外界を断ち、アーティストらがスタジオにこもって、怒りや憎しみ、喜びや悲しみを一心不乱になって一音に吹き込む。何かを託すと言ってもいい。
そして、完成したアルバムを発表し、どんな思いを込めて制作したのかを語る。（僕が好きなプリンスはほとんど語らなかったので、完成された作品を理解する必要があった）
アルバムが完成し、発表するまで、彼らはひとことも語らない。
僕の胸を震わせたのは、そんなアーティストらだった。
僕の中に淡く灯っているアップルの革新性は、いまでも消えていない。
それは昨年、大失敗だと批判されたアップルヴィジョンプロでさえも消すことはできない。むしろ、アイフォン以上の強烈な光を放っている。
ただの斬新な電化製品ではなく、細かな電気部品の向こうに観念や思想を感じるからだ。
残念ながら、メタのARグラスやテスラの車に、僕がその観念や思想を感じることは今後もないだろう。

新婚旅行の8mmフィルムが数十年ぶりに出てきて、DVDに焼きました。
１９９３年６月６日、僕らは結婚し、そのままニューヨークを経由して、バハマのナッソーへ向かいました。
目的地は、亡くなられたダイアナ妃が新婚旅行へ向かったピンクサンドビーチです。
もしもこれからバハマへ向かうならば、参考に見てもよいかもしれません。
泊まったホテルは、今はもうないラマダホテル。
妻がホテルの部屋を紹介しています。
でも、今はリアルタイムで美しい景色が見られますね。
届いたDVDを再生したら、バハマに到着したところからの映像でした。

あらすじ
大学を目指している北見ケイは、SNS上で、6歳年上のイベントコンパニオン、上村香織に出会う。
上京してきた香織の夢は、有名なアーティストの友達になるためだ。
そのためにはラジオ局のプロデューサー、大沢亮の存在が必要だった。
大沢は、ラジオの生放送中、香織へ語りかける。
「僕には妻子がある。しかし、僕は君に会いたいと思っている」
ケイの同級生で、彼を想っている三條里香は、香織の動向を探っていた。。。。。
本編
人が海へ向かう理由には、二つある。
ひとつは、波打ち際ではしゃぐ子供のように、今の瞬間の海の輝きを楽しむこと。
もうひとつは、その輝きを静かに見据えて、過ぎ去った日々を懐かしむ老人のように記憶の埃を払うこと。
二つは重なり合わないようではあるけれども、たったひとつの意味しか生まない。
再生だ。
明日っていう、曖昧な日を確実なものへと変えてゆくために、自分の存在に向き合う。
それが再生の意味だ。
十八歳だった僕には大切な人がいた。
