The launch viewed behind some ocotillo along Highway 78 east of Old Kane Springs Road in Borrego Springs, California. According to the maps, this area is just barely outside of the boundaries of Anza- Borrego Desert State Park.
This was another epic launch to watch. And the clouds made it even more interesting. I shot this with a Canon 6D and Tokina 17-35mm lens at 1 sec f/4 ISO 3200.
The rocket that starred in tonight’s spectacular launch was the second of SpaceX’s next-generation Falcon 9, dubbed the Block 5, to refly. The veteran flyer had first delivered 10 Iridium NEXT communications satellites into orbit on July 25.
Wow, wow, wow.
This is the now thrice flown (& thrice landed) #JCSAT18 #Kacific1 #Falcon9 rocket, launched Mon at 7:10pm (ET) seen from Melbourne, FL and the Indian River Lagoon.

That's a ghostly me frame left, working my other cameras. This particular exposure is a 211-second frame. All of my cameras were set to capture the expected downrange plume; although I knew the sky was cloudy, I didn't quite realize just how dense the clouds were until the rocket was in flight. Bottom line: the plume brightly lit by the rising Sun was obscured.
As for the dinosaur, for non-space nerds, this is the same sort of sequined apatosaurus that Astronauts Bob Behnken and Doug Hurley brought along to use as a zero-gravity indicator for the Demo-2 mission. My daughter was watching the live webcast of the launch, and when the dino floated in front of the camera she freaked out. I managed to score two of the now apparently quite sold out dinosaurs, and she got one, and I kept the other.

At 3:14am (ET) Sunday, the #CRS23 #Falcon9 sent a Cargo Dragon capsule full of goodies to the Space Station.
It was a beautiful launch from NASA's Kennedy Space Center, & the 90th successful 1st stage landing for #SpaceX.

Welcome home, #Falcon9 booster B1058!
The #SpaceX first stage rolled into port Tuesday morning (January 26) shortly before noon.
A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket delivered 49 Starlink satellites to low Earth orbit (LEO) at 9:02 P.M. on 01-18-22. SpaceX has now placed 2000 of the small communications satellites in to orbit comprising their Starlink constellation which will deliver internet access to rural areas of the world. The first stage landed about 400 miles southeast of Cape Canaveral, near the Bahamas, on the drone ship A Shortfall of Gravitas. I took this shot from a bridge over the Indian River Lagoon in Vero Beach, Florida.
Well done, #SpaceX. The #CRS14 #Falcon9 launch was successful, and incredible to watch, especially from the roof of NASA's Vehicle Assembly Building.

Main story
There are two reasons why a person faces the sea.
One # to enjoy a slice of shine in the sea like children bubbling over in the beach.
The other # to brush the dust of memory like an old man who misses old days # staring at the shine
quietly.
Those lead to only one meaning though they do not seem to overlap. It’s a rebirth.
I face myself to change tomorrow # a vague day into something certain.
That is the meaning of a rebirth.
I had a very sweet girlfriend when I was 18.
After she left # I knew the meaning of gentleness for the first time and also a true pain of loss. After
she left # how many times did I depend too much on her # doubt her # envy her and keep on telling lies
until I realized it is love?
I wonder whether a nobody like me could have given something to her who was struggling in the
daily life in those days. Giving something is arrogant conceit. It is nothing but self-satisfaction.
I had been thinking about such a thing.
However # I guess what she saw in me was because I had nothing. That‘s why she tried to see
something in me. Perhaps she found a slight possibility in me # a guy filled with ambiguous # unstable
tomorrow. But I wasted days depending too much on her gentleness.
Now I finally can convey how I felt in those days when we met.

本編
人が海へ向かう理由には、二つある。
ひとつは、波打ち際ではしゃぐ子供のように、今の瞬間の海の輝きを楽しむこと。
もうひとつは、その輝きを静かに見据えて、過ぎ去った日々を懐かしむ老人のように記憶の埃を払うこと。
二つは重なり合わないようではあるけれども、たったひとつの意味しか生まない。
再生だ。
明日っていう、曖昧な日を確実なものへと変えてゆくために、自分の存在に向き合う。
それが再生の意味だ。

A SpaceX Falcon 9 launching 54 Starlink Group 5-15 Satellites at 11:50 PM on July 15th, 2023. This was the last launch of the v1.5 Starlink Satellites to be added to the Starlink mega-constellation. The image was taken from Vero Beach which is 63 miles (101 kilometers) south of the launch site. This was the 16th flight of this particular first stage reusable booster which landed successfully on the barge A Shortfall of Gravitas. The barge was located to the north of the eastern Bahamas.

Main story
There are two reasons why a person faces the sea.
One # to enjoy a slice of shine in the sea like children bubbling over in the beach.
The other # to brush the dust of memory like an old man who misses old days # staring at the shine
quietly.
Those lead to only one meaning though they do not seem to overlap. It’s a rebirth.
I face myself to change tomorrow # a vague day into something certain.
That is the meaning of a rebirth.
I had a very sweet girlfriend when I was 18.
After she left # I knew the meaning of gentleness for the first time and also a true pain of loss. After
she left # how many times did I depend too much on her # doubt her # envy her and keep on telling lies
until I realized it is love?
I wonder whether a nobody like me could have given something to her who was struggling in the
daily life in those days. Giving something is arrogant conceit. It is nothing but self-satisfaction.
I had been thinking about such a thing.
However # I guess what she saw in me was because I had nothing. That‘s why she tried to see
something in me. Perhaps she found a slight possibility in me # a guy filled with ambiguous # unstable
tomorrow. But I wasted days depending too much on her gentleness.
Now I finally can convey how I felt in those days when we met.

あらすじ
大学を目指している北見ケイは、SNS上で、6歳年上のイベントコンパニオン、上村香織に出会う。
上京してきた香織の夢は、有名なアーティストの友達になるためだ。
そのためにはラジオ局のプロデューサー、大沢亮の存在が必要だった。
大沢は、ラジオの生放送中、香織へ語りかける。
「僕には妻子がある。しかし、僕は君に会いたいと思っている」
ケイの同級生で、彼を想っている三條里香は、香織の動向を探っていた。。。。。
本編
人が海へ向かう理由には、二つある。
ひとつは、波打ち際ではしゃぐ子供のように、今の瞬間の海の輝きを楽しむこと。
もうひとつは、その輝きを静かに見据えて、過ぎ去った日々を懐かしむ老人のように記憶の埃を払うこと。
二つは重なり合わないようではあるけれども、たったひとつの意味しか生まない。
再生だ。
明日っていう、曖昧な日を確実なものへと変えてゆくために、自分の存在に向き合う。
それが再生の意味だ。

This is 16 minutes of star trails and then the 170 second launch streak of the #JCSAT16 #Falcon9 rocket launched by SpaceX at 1:26am on August 1, 2016 from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station. This is a composite of 33 images.

It was a beautiful, and historic, first "operational" SpaceX Crew Dragon mission. Known as the Crew-1 with the Dragon Capsule named "Resilience", launch occurred at 7:27 p.m. EST on Sunday evening from LC-39A on the Kennedy Space Center.
At 5:04pm (ET) Wednesday (6/29), SpaceX launched the SES-22 payload atop Falcon9 booster B1073.
Cloudy skies made for a moody backdrop as the rocket thundered off the pad.

This is a throwback to March 6, 2020 (in what seems like the longest 5-weeks ever), and the #SpaceX #CRS20 rocket launch (left) and landing (right), seen here from the Press Site.
I captured this on 35mm slide transparency film. It took me a couple of weeks to have this film processed and scanned, hence the delayed post.
As they say, #FilmIsNotDead.

Details: 680-second exposure time (approximate) and f18 on Kodak Ektachrome 100 35mm slide film in a Canon Elan7 body with a Rokinon 12mm fish-eye lens. Processing and scan done by The Darkroom.
The exposure time is approximate because I opened the shutter 3-4 minutes before the 11:50pm launch time, and I left it open for a few seconds after the booster landed. I know from EXIF that my digital frame was exposed 508-seconds. Without EXIF on the film, I'm left to estimate the exposure time for the film. I think the camera does show a counter on the LCD for bulb exposures, but I always forget to look.
Another shot that arrived last week from the film processing lab, this is the November 15, 2018, #SpaceX #Falcon9 launch of the #Eshail2 communication satellite. The film had been sitting in the camera with just one exposure. I was dragging my feet because I didn't think it was exposed correctly, but I finally decided to send it off to be developed.
I was shooting next to Craig Bailey on his roof, the Florida Today building at the Kennedy Space Center Press Site (thanks, Craig!). The launch time was 3:46 pm, so I needed a 10-stop filter. I only had a 67mm filter, and the FD 100-300mm lens takes a 58mm filter. So I needed to resort to two stacked step-up rings.
To my delight, the filter worked, maybe even too well, producing this moody (and underexposed) spectacle. When I shared the photo with my We Report Space colleagues, Bill Jelen addressed the dated look of the image and said "Fifty years from now, people will be saying 'Look how old fashioned those cars and bus look!' "
Details:
Fuji Velvia 50 35mm slide film, shot in a Canon A1 with a Canon FD 100-300mm lens at 30-seconds and f22 through a 10-stop ND filter. The Darkroom did the processing and scan.

Under a huge moon hanging low in the icy sky, the snow glittered like scattered stars across the forest floor. Three gray wolf pups tumbled out of their den, their breath puffing in excited clouds. The night was still, save for the crunch of their paws and their excited yips echoing through the pines.
In the distance, a shadow moved—graceful, deliberate. Their mother emerged from the trees, her thick coat shimmering in the moonlight. The pups bounded toward her, tails wagging like metronomes, their playful yips and whines filling the air. She lowered her head, nuzzling each one, her warm tongue brushing away the snow clinging to their faces. They pressed close, a tangle of fur and love, their soft whimpers a song of welcome.
For a moment, the cold world softened. The wind sighed through the branches, and the mega-moon watched over the reunion, bathing the little family in pale, tender light.
SpaceX successfully launched the latest batch of 60 Starlink satellites last night at 10:59 p.m. EST from SLC-40 on the Cape Canaveral Space Force Station. But the first stage booster (B1059) failed to land on the drone ship "Of Course I Still Love You", ending the steak of 24 successful recoveries in a row.

A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket as it lifted 4 astronauts aboard a Crew Dragon into orbit for a rendezvous with the International Space Station. It was the third flight of that particular Crew Dragon Capsule and the first flight of the reusable first stage booster. The first stage booster landed safely back at Cape Canaveral. This is an image stack which shows the main path of the vehicle as it launched as well as the trail of the first stage booster as it fired its engines twice prior to landing. The images were taken from Vero Beach which is 63 miles (101 kilometers) south of the launch site.
This is the #Telstar18V launch by #SpaceX, seen from Satellite Beach, Florida and captured on Kodak Ektar 100 35mm film. I fielded three different cameras for the 12:45 am Monday, September 10, 2018 launch, and for this shot, I simply opened the shutter about 10 minutes before the launch, and I closed the shutter as I was packing up, so I'd estimate the exposure time to be approximately 25-minutes in length.
I started out at f11, but after a few test exposures on one of the DSLRs, I thought I'd need more light to bring out the foreground, so after 5 minutes or so, I covered the lens and turned the aperture ring to f9. (You can see the change in the star streaks -- they start thin, and at f9, they're thicker.) I remain a bit mystified as to why I didn't open the aperture AFTER the launch, as the rocket is blown out low on the horizon, but overall, I'm happy with the result.
And, I'm particularly happy with the new (to me) lab that processed this frame: Miller's Professional Imaging was *very* responsive. From the time the film was received, it took them less than 120 minutes to process and scan the roll. I would have had this yesterday (as in, the day after the launch) if I hadn't missed the cutoff for UPS Next Day service. (Big thanks to We Report Space colleague Jared Haworth for the referral to Miller's; they're great.)
