One of GIO's two Welland jobs is seen spotting cars for London Agricultural Services at the old Robin Hood elevator in Port Colborne.
Usually paired with slug LDSX 269, 7224 was running solo today after the slug was found to be having issues. 1859 would briefly take the slug to allow 7224 out of Feeder. Only two customers would be serviced this day, with the gp9 spending over 6 hours shuffling cars in and out of the elevator, while 1859 spent the day working Verbio.

I stumbled across this elevator complex (there's another storage area behind me) on the way from one scouted site to another. There was no name on the elevator and no indication of a town name nearby. That night, I searched the map for a name, but there was nothing: it seemed to be just a stop on the railway line.
Kansas, USA.
This trip to eastern Colorado and Kansas was a substitute (lemonade from lemons, if you will) for a storm chasing trip that same week that got cancelled. It turned out to be a lovely little trip. If you'd like to read about the trip and see some behind the scenes pics and video, take a look at my blog post about the Lemonade from Lemons tour. You can see all the images from the trip in my Colorado and Kansas album.

There are two grain elevators at Merricourt. They are huge - one concrete and one brick (that's not something you see every day!) - and I assume that Merricourt was once a bustling town. Now it's a near-ghost town with maybe one or two families still living there. Both elevators are abandoned.
Merricourt, North Dakota.
I wrote a blog post about my December 2019 trip to Manitoba and North Dakota, if you're interested in reading about it.

A courtyard behind Salamanca Place in Hobart, Tasmania. I took a similar shot of this glass elevator with my iPhone a few weeks back.
This time I had my DSLR with me. Whilst I got a few brighter and colourful shots, I liked the atmosphere of this b&w version.
This grain elevator is in Kirkpatrick near Drumheller in the Alberta badlands. I've been meaning to shoot it for some time now and finally got around to it just after Christmas.

A grain elevator nestled in the rolling hills of Washington state's Palouse region as seen just prior to sunset on June 5th, 2015 from Steptoe Butte State Park.
Dawn in Alliance, Nebraska. The faded block letters read “O.M. Kellogg Grain,” which apparently was something called the O.M. Kellogg Grain Elevator Co.
At the right time of year, the rising sun probably throws all that sheet metal on the north wall into dramatic relief. Not in late October. A freight train blocked my access to the sunny side.

This grain elevator probably goes back to the late 1930's or early 1940's.
When I became old enough to haul the grain into town to the elevator I was thrilled. It got me out of the fields but for some reason the elevators fascinated me.
These guys were changing gaskets on the hydraulic system in one of the City Hall elevators. Fortunately, they were happy to pose for a photo.

Sometimes on the summit of a mountain I wish there was an elevator down. Unfortunately, in spite of my wishful thinking, this is just a door left over from when a radio tower was mounted on Mount Catherine.
