Old Kruger Park Elephant photographed near Shingwidzi in the early 80s. This is a scan of a Kodachrome transparency. This Elephant was famous for its size for it came after the "Magnificant Seven" proving that the gene for large Bulls was still in the Shingwidzi breeding herd. (Loxodonta africana).
Dzombo, Joao, Kambaku, Mafunyane, Ndlulamithi, Shawu and Shingwidzi were the names of the Magnificant Seven, legends. The history of these seven goliath Elephants is fascinating and is found here:

I am posting this for Piet Grobler who spends a huge amount of time in the Park. Perhaps he knows the name of this Elephant.
I might mention this Elephant ran Wild Dogs away from the waterhole he is standing near.
This could be an Elephant named Hlanganini who was killed in a fight with another Elephant in 2009. I see somewhere along the line he broke his left tusk prior to his last fight. He looked a bit long in the tooth when I photographed him so he must have been pretty old when he died.

We came across this herd of elephants as we were.going along the Shire river ,near Mvuu camp .Malawi. They were doing what elephants do mostly ,ie eating ...they were snacking on the riverside reeds.
This Male African Elephant was seen on the banks of the Kazinga channel. I wasn't going to upload this shot as I had chopped the end of his trunk off but have done so by request from Sandy Silver as he said it was his favourite.

All these pictures were taken on a trip to Colchester Zoo. As we had the girls with us and it wasn't a photographic trip I decided to dust off my old Canon EOS350D as it is a bit lighter to carry. I haven't used it for over three years but it still works fine when coupled with my 70mm - 300mm Canon EF zoom lens

While on our vacation to Queensland, we took the kids to Australian Zoo, Home of Steve Irwin the Croc Hunter. It was a brilliant day and the kids loved it. Here is an Elephant doing a little Dance, well in his case a Big dance lol.
HDR Image Processed in Photomatix and tweaked in Photoshop. Captured on the Canon 7D while teamed up with the Sigma 17-70mm lens.
