The Metropolitan Building in downtown Detroit opened in 1925 and closed in 1977. In late 2018 it reopened as a hotel, officially named the Element Detroit at the Metropolitan.

Again, God said, let ther be Firmament

Amid the Waters, and let it divide

The Waters from the Waters: and God made

The Firmament, expanse of liquid, pure,

Transparent, Elemental Air, diffus'd

In circuit to the uttermost convex

Of this great Round: partition firm and sure,

The Waters underneath from those above

Dividing: for as Earth, so he the World

Built on circumfluous Waters calme, in wide

Crystallin Ocean, and the loud misrule

Of Chaos farr remov'd, least fierce extreames

Contiguous might distemper the whole frame:

And Heav'n he nam'd the Firmament: So Eev'n

And Morning Chorus sung the second Day.

For those who also follow me on instagram, a big thank you for getting me to 500 followers over the past 3 months (thats almost the equivalent of 2 and a half years on flickr!).

Something alot of people particularly like about my 'artwork inspired' series, is the elemental weapons and accessories the figures have. So what better way to celebrate than two specific photoshoots to display them!

All the painted parts are made from thin plastic sheets, (the type you find on action figure boxes). All are hand painted which is really where my art skills help this. I intend to make more in this style, maybe a couple of other sabers too. The 'Enix' Vader's 'force flames' and Fett's 'thruster flames' are currently being made/non removable.

If there are any particular objects or weapons you'd like to see made in the style above, send me a message or leave a link to an image bellow, and it's likely they will be made!

Also nearing 700 followers on here, so would like to say another big thank you to you guys!

Upon 800 followers, I'll be hosting a contest where ( probably artwork/sculpture inspired figures #artyfarty) where first place wins either a Desert Nomad Obi-wan or another artwork inspired commission. And yes, I will do that rare thing of shipping world wide from the UK.

As always guys, let me know what you think and if you have any other ideas/suggestions that you want to see made.

I currently have 'wibbly wobbly timey wimey' schedule, but I may fit in one or two more things over this holiday.

If your still reading this far, then good on you! XD

p.s any design work/competition prize winners, I havn't forgotten about you!

Hveravellir

Iceland

This shot was taken from the interior geothermal area of Hveravellir last August along the Kjolur route. It is a blend of several exposures on a frosty morning where steam was obscuring the sun.

I find these days, it's hard to get anything done that requires longer than a few minutes of commitment given the randomness of baby commitments - most of this was done one handed while settling baby! Apologies for being inactive on viewing everyone else's work once again. I will adapt soon lol

This is something that has been on my to-build list for a long time, a dragon. For some reason it has felt like a very daunting task, and it took me quite a while from deciding to build an ice dragon to actually getting anything done on it. And after building the head it sat on my desk for what felt like ages before I was able to get into making the rest of it. It finally came together for the Paredes de Coura Fan Weekend in Portugal, and then made its way to Brickworld Chicago the weekend after.

My original intention was to build an environment for the dragon to be in as well, but as I ran short on time, that came down to me just building it a white base, which, due to unforeseen circumstances, got stuck in Germany on my way home from Portugal, and thus never made it to Chicago. In the end, I chose to publish the picture without the base, as it felt more like a distraction than adding to the creation.

In the end, I'm really happy with how the dragon turned out, and that I was able to overcome this kind of barrier of building something like this. The legs aren't the most stable around, but once it's posed correctly, the dragon does stand up on its own with no added supports, which I'm very happy with.

Elemental Series

Created using fundamental, natural elements. Water, natural elements and mineral samples are collected at the site of the picture - from the actual place depicted within the photograph. The depicted scene you see here is then created not just by exposing light on to the film but also by melding the organic samples with the film so the resulting image created more entirely from the scene itself.

This is the second version of this image. I wasn’t quite happy with the first as I thought I lost sight of my vision. The first was just sort of a mess of shapes and patterns but really had no focus. There is nothing wrong with that - I painted abstract art for a very long time and most of those paintings were more about my feelings rather than things. With these last two digital images neither is correct or better than the other, they are just different. I think it is important at least for me to explore and dig deeper. That is why doing a series is a great idea or just taking your base image and making another version. Always learning!

"Elemental"

I shot this during a gorgeous sunset while on the Carnival Ecstasy somewhere in the Bahamas. Watching a sunset in the middle of the ocean is always special. This is a shot I almost discarded at first. I let it sit there for a few months, untouched, because I couldn't decide if I liked it.

The inspiration came to me that this scene is sublime.

The way the clouds are almost paint-like, the rain falling down in front of the setting sun almost surreal, and the vivid colors caused by the dance of the sun and the rain nearly unbelievable.

Yet, it is elemental - of nature, and of simplicity.

It is pureness.

The zoom lens amplifies that which the eye sees differently.

I am grateful today for the different perspective I have opened up to, and am happy to share Elemental with you, in hopes that we all honor our connection to everything around us. For, we are all elemental. There is no separation between nature and humankind.
