The first camera with a built-in electronic flash:
The batteries and electronics are housed in a bayonet fitting, on the bottom of the camera, pistol grip
A switch in it controls the charge of the capacitor: continuously charged or just at the pressure of it
There's a flash ready indicator in the viewfinder and also on the top plate
GN 9 @ 100 ISO, recycle time 8 - 15 seconds
For automatic operation of the flash, 25 - 400 ISO, the lightning symbol, in the aperture ring must be selected, the aperture will relate to the focus distance
24 x 36 mm exposures on 35 mm film

I promised pictures of the new setup and here they are. Its not pretty, it works for now. The c ardboard has to go for anything involving water. I need to find some sort of large rigid plastic cubic cylindar to house all of this in.

Nice thick steel panel for mounting the encoders. This makes it easier to remove the top panel without scratching things up, and also lets the whole thing take more abuse while not requiring the top panel be made of thicker material. Plus, it just looks nicer not to have the nuts showing through the top panel.

The second thing I noticed was the truly beautiful sprung keyboard. You certainly don't get keyboards like this any more - each key is individually supported by a mechanical spring, and there is a very satisfying clickety-clack when you type. Now I must confess that this is not the only PET mod I've seen on line, but the other one (also on mini-itx.com) involved chopping out the whole keyboard and replacing all the keys. This was not for me - to be true to the mod I really needed to preserve this!

Took about 1 1/2 hours in total and was generally very straight forward. There were a couple of awkward places in the construction (shutter springs "C" and "D"!!) and adding a couple of the panels after the sides were attached was a little bit fidly. But on the whole quite straight forward. TBH, I can't see myself using it much after the put the first "I put this camera together" roll through, as I've quite a few other recent purchases to try out, all of which cost about the same, or even less, than this and have adjustable shutter speed, ISO and aperture size (i.e. not a toy) and all have very good lenses to boot! We'll see!

My new Core 2 Duo Dell Precision M90 Laptop.
Note: 11-17-2009 - This has now become my secondary computer which I take with me to clients. Still a very good workhorse, yet my office desktop computer is now my primary.
A +/- 6V & +/- 12V 42A power supply from the 70's or so. Beautiful wiring, except for the raw 240v adjacent to low signal voltage through the connector plugging into the machine.
My sony p200 had a faulty flash - I found some cheap spare parts for the p200 on ebay and a service manual - so i went about replacing it myself. it wasnt easy! it was like working on laptop computers only smaller.

The Solenoidal Tracker at RHIC (STAR) is a detector which specializes in tracking the thousands of particles produced by each ion collision at RHIC. Weighing 1,200 tons and as large as a house, STAR is a massive detector. It is used to search for signatures of the form of matter that RHIC was designed to create: the quark-gluon plasma. It is also used to investigate the behavior of matter at high energy densities by making measurements over a large area.
