The chemically saturated wood fibers makes for a long service life among dead trees that support millions of miles of copper wire around the city, state, and wider world. But after enough cycles of freezing and thawing, baking and steaming in the range of Earth weather surrounding them, the poles are finally scheduled for replacement. Often it seems the old ones are left in place to bolster the new ones, even after all wires are anchored onto the new one and nothing is left for the old ones to do except host squirrels and birds that climb up or down.

Judging from the number of workers and vehicles, the cumulative labor and equipment and materials cost per pole is pretty expensive. Clearly there is more involved than a few fresh screws or bolts to set into place. Doubtless there is an extended series of training courses and the chance of many kinds of hazard discovered once in the bucket lift and faced with the task at hand up close.

October 15, 2012 provided a spectacular sunset, in a location where we could truly enjoy it--overlooking a field in Lititz, Pennsylvania, USA. We had just finished a delicious meal at Lititz Family Cupboard Buffet Restaurant & were feeling well-satisfied with life in general. The gift, on top of that, of a gorgeous sunset, filled my heart with gratitude. Whenever I see the magnificence of nature--great or small--I am reminded of God's goodness, in creating & sustaining our world. As I tried to get the best shot, at first, I worked around the electrical towers. Then, I decided they provided a nice contrast with the sunset. As high-powered as those towers are, my God exceeds their power! Praise His name!

Electrical Occupations, by Lee M. Klinefelter. New York: Dutton, 1937.

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo and a delegation of administration officials traveled to the U.S. Virgin Islands today to survey the damage caused by Hurricane Irma. The trip comes after Governor Mapp requested that Governor Cuomo travel to the region to survey the damage. Governor Cuomo has pledged to identify how New York can best provide additional assistance to the impacted area as they begin the recovery process. The New York delegation includes experts with a range of experience in incident management and disaster recovery at the local, state and federal levels dealing with crises such as Superstorm Sandy, Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee. During the assessment, the delegation is using this expertise to work with U.S. Virgin Island officials to determine the state of critical infrastructure, as well as identify how best to allocate resources.
