This is a large box that covers electrical utilities in our park areas. All the boxes are decorated differently and are make to look beautiful. Close to my place, it's my favourite one. As you can also see, the utility box and contents sit on a concrete slab high enough off the ground to protect it from ground water during the heavy rains.

These connections on the tensioned cables for the electric trains near the Goodwood Train Station look like a warped version of the bass clef musical notation.

Electrical Storm

One of many fascinating stores to be found in shopping centres in townships and township clusters such as Soweto. This store had used electrical goods for sale ( and perhaps repair too).

Building with a past, now a part time art gallery, Poochera, South Australia

can make for a great photographic effect. That grayish area around the edges is not part of a post processed addition but the result of playing "stalker." I was shooting from behind several transparent electric metering devices with a long lens. I rather like the effect.

Note: Over the last few days, many people have added me as a contact. This is cool but please do not add me without at least commenting once or twice. Let me know you are a real person, not a stalker :)

Taken in Australia near Hastings Point in NSW. This is looking south towards Byron Bay and the storm was simply Epic!!

Lightning over Disneyland, Paris. Family holiday this year. Heat was building for days and this was the result. Kids were in bed, had no tripod, so I balanced the camera on a cushion, pointing out of the hotel room and waited. This was the last strike before it rained. I've darkened the original and found different colours on different forks of the lightning. Can't believe how lucky I was.

Another "street test" of the Electrical Parade at Magicland Park in Second Life...the floats are looking better and better each day!

Every afternoon of late we're getting huge electrical storms; better than hurricanes of course.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I spotted this set of pylons recently when there was a storm brewing and thought it would make a good composition with a moody sky backdrop. I tried it with both short and long exposures and this was the best I think. I also liked the concept of combining man made electricity with the natural electricity in the clouds. For this I used a Lee Big Stopper and a 3 stop Lee neutral density graduated filter although it actually needed another stop. It was an exposure of several minutes but as the clouds were slow moving, it still gave a streaking effect which is what I wanted. I also always use long exposure noise reduction which doubles the wait time before you can preview the shot! A lightning strike onto the Pylon would have been nice but you can't have it all!
