oh happy day!
i found this amazing amazing ginkgo tree when i left the voting booth yesterday..
it was glowing
and looked exactly the way i felt inside..
radiant and full of hope.
miami dade allows for touchscreen machines to be brought out to cars so that handicapped voters can vote.

Thank the Lord above for the freedom we have to make choices as "the people" of this great land.
This image was taken at The Linville Falls Visitors Center and I happened to catch the flag at the same time a plane was leaving a jet stream in the beautiful blue sky of the day. I thought it an appropriate image to post on this great day we have ahead of us.

At the last minute, Kilen (our son) decided to vote, but I have to drop his ballot off. We are NOT going to miss the robo calls (MY GAWD SO MANY!!)... some interesting elections out there! Hope everyone has voted ;)
I ask your indulgence twice.
First, I hope you will read this...please indulge me.
Second, an explanation of this photo needs your indulgence as well.
This has been a pretty bad year. From early spring the pandemic has dramatically limited...well...almost everything. My usual three-seasons daily driver, seen above, has remained parked and covered. Then, to add to the awfulness, on August 10 we had the almost armageddon-like inland hurricane -- derecho -- the 140mph winds of which destroyed so very much in my city. Driving a low-slung super sports car like this was LITERALLY impossible.
By my birthday, mid-October, we had already had three snowfalls, including one substantial one. These cars are not winter driving cars...nor are they much fun in the cold; we've already had too many sub-freezing temperatures.
So today...US election day...we got 'Indian Summer'. Temps into the 70s. Blue sky, bright sunshine. Who could resist taking the car out. Plus, by this date there are still likely to be some migrating waterfowl visiting the lake, so there I went, and had to take the car, top dropped.
Finally, over the last months we've been bombarded to the point of mania by all of the political advertisements and shenanigans. Getting out and escaping...first to the lake, and then on the road a bit...best medicine possible.
This weather is supposed to stay around for some days. Here's hoping. And I hope you enjoy the photo of of one my passions.
The line at my place to vote this morning. It took me about 25-30 minutes from the time I got in line to cast my vote. It went very smoothly. Everybody was social distancing and in a good mood

I was on a brake between assignments with the railroad. There was a roll of film that had a few shots left so I decided to grab the camera and take a walk from Union Station, down Pennsylvania Avenue to the The Ellipse, just out side of the south lawn of The White House. I wanted to document the mood during this important day in our nations capitol.
this will be a long day. this morning when i drove to work and heard on the radio that the two little villages up in nh had gone for obama (by over 2 to 1) i may have gotten a little weepy. i'm going to vote tonight. i will be bringing knitting and tissues.

Dr. Monique Ryan, whose picture adorns the fence, was the successful Independent who defeated the long standing Liberal party MP and Federal treasurer Josh Frydenberg.
Election Day is a unique collaboration between Juergen Teller, Vivienne Westwood, former Baywatch star Pamela Anderson and Westwood’s husband, Andreas Kronthaler, and brings together images from Westwood’s Spring/Summer 09 advertising campaign.
The photographs show a romp starring Anderson, Westwood, Kronthaler and rock band The Queens of the Stone Age. Teller’s mise en scène escapes precise categorisation, combining images of the protagonists in a golf buggy, Anderson reading Plato’s Republic with her nipple visible through sheer fabric, Westwood and Anderson frolicking in clothes baskets in a laundrette, and the two beaming in front of a television announcing Barack Obama’s imminent victory. The cavorting characters elaborate a bizarre narrative which highlights the hope surrounding Obama’s victory, the quintessential nature of Westwood’s clothes, and Teller’s signature style.
Today is Election Day across the United States of America between Republican President Donald Trump and Democratic Nominee Joe Biden.
This has been one heck of a campaign season which ultimately led up to today where the citizens get to decide the future.
Please get out and vote, be passionate about what you stand for, who you vote for but also remember we are one and be kind to one another.

Even if you don't prefer Barack Obama, I think you can agree that his logo is brilliant. I found this image online and simply added a mat and frame.
I urge all my American Flickr friends to go vote if you haven't already (I have). If you're still undecided, before you go to the polls, please read his policy statements. If you are someone who wants Obama to win, please don't let his lead in the polls make you think it's okay to stay home and not vote. It's not. The election might still be very close, and your vote will make a difference.
In addition to admiring his intellect, eloquence and already great accomplishments, I am confident that in beginning to solve the multitudinous problems this current administration is leaving behind, Obama will gather the best minds of the nation for consultation and advice and then synthesize those views into a plan of action that will heal America and restore its place in the world as the beacon of freedom and democracy it had always been. He will close Guantanamo and declare the end of torture of prisoners. While still protecting us from harm, he will move to amend the Patriot Act to return freedoms to Americans that have been wrested away. He will responsibly turn Iraq over to the Iraqis, freeing up almost $20 billion a month, and move some more of our forces to Afghanistan to combat the resurgence there of Al-Qaeda and the Taliban, and to find Bin Laden, the mastermind of the 9/11 attacks, while still pursuing cooperation from our allies. He will prefer diplomacy to a show of force in confronting the challenges we face around the world. He will try to control the spread of "loose nukes." He will see that our troops have the protections they need and will make sure they are honored for their service by ensuring they get the care they need when they return home. He will assure our young people that in return for service to America, they can go to college for four years. He will give 95% of working Americans tax breaks and take some breaks away from those wealthy people who did not need them in the first place. He will reward American companies for creating jobs on our soil, millions and millions of them, by starting to rebuild our crumbling infrastructure and by making America the leader in green energy. He will restore respect for science and will return America to a leadership role in combating climate change. He will fight poverty by expanding access to jobs, raising the minimum wage and supporting improvements in facilities and services in rural and urban areas. He will also see that the U.S. Department of Justice will indeed return to dispensing justice, not partisan politics, and will appoint justices to the Supreme Court who would not overturn Roe v. Wade and a woman's right to choose. (Even as a senior citizen, that still matters to me.) He will start reversing the mountainous debt that this administration has built up. He will ensure that trade agreements reflect respect for workers and for the environment. He will find people to staff agencies and create or reform policies that will protect our country's wildlands, wildlife and natural resources.
All of this will not come all at once (it may take years or a decade) and will not come without sacrifice on the part of all Americans, but the healing process will begin, and we will again have an inspirational leader who will discourage selfishness and call on us to be responsible citizens of our communities and of our world. We can all play a part. It can start with your vote.
Please also take a moment today, no matter whom you vote for, to think about the Obama family, who is grieving the loss of "Toot," Barack Obama's beloved grandmother, Madelyn Dunham, who had "poured everything she had" into him but succumbed to cancer yesterday, just one day before this historic election. Thankfully he had a chance last week to bid her farewell and to assure her that what she did for him and his sister was meaningful and important.
Just saw this juvenile bald eagle land in the neighbor's tree across the street. Good timing, this election day -- I hope all my US friends have made time to vote!

I urge all of my friends in the USA to make time to vote in this important mid-term election. Your vote DOES COUNT!
We Voted! Fingers crossed the new optical scan machines actually tabulate our vote...
Polls were light at 4:30, but we did have a little excitement. A woman had been misdirected to our poll and did not have transportation (she had been dropped off by her son and was supposed to walk home). The actual place she was supposed to vote was roughly three miles away! While we waited and completed our ballots, we heard the poll workers trying every tactic they could on multiple phones to get the election officials to allow her to vote where she was... apparently no dice. Finally, as we were leaving, one of the poll captains pulled us aside and asked us if we had time to "do a good deed" today. Who could say no to that?
So we loaded up with the lost voter and followed his directions to her correct polling place.
On the way there, our passenger shared that she was still undecided about the presidential race! We couldn't believe it. Yes, she watched the debates, and felt like it was the same kind of bickering she hears in her house from her kids. The ads are all negative, she said, and you don't know for sure if these guys will do 10% of what they claim they will do.
But, she thought she had the decisive info she needed: in the movie Deep Impact, the president was Morgan Freeman - so, she reasons, she knows what comes next with an African-American president.
Upon disembarking from our car and heading into the polls, she said that whichever candidate could ensure her ex-husband would be dropped in the Bermuda Triangle would get her vote.
Sigh.

Today, November 7th, is election day in America. It is the Democrats' chance to take back at least one house of Congress, perhaps both, and start healing our country.
I cannot express my concerns and hopes better than my friend alight (Kelly), who wrote: "Our country has been broken since the U.S. Supreme Court made Bush president (despite Gore's million+ more votes). With many of you, I share the strong belief that Bush has nearly destroyed our country, propagating war, debt, fear and mistrust, desecrating our environmental gifts, and damaging the whole world in the process.
Every vote counts! Even though this election will not remove Bush from office, it can wholly renew both branches of the Congress and thereby put our country back on the road to integrity, peace and health.
Please take this opportunity to be a part of creating renewal and rebirth."
