The final polling results on September 8th confirmed that the ruling Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) had won the election in July.
However, the opposition Cambodia National Rescue party (CNRP) rejected the result demanding for a joint committee to investigate the irregularity during the election processes.
The CNRP also called on supporters to protest and soon after that, tensions have been building in the city. The first protest happened on September 8, 2013.
Today is the second time of the protest after the negotiation had failed. According to theguardian.com, the opposition leaders were hoping 20,000 people would turn out for the demonstration today and the rally was supposed to last three days, with thousands camping out overnight. The government had requested that the protest be limited to 10,000 people and end by nightfall.

Sad case of relentless littering by politicians desperate to obtain votes. The Brazilian elections use digital ballots, and the results of over a hundred million votes will be known minutes after the last ballot is closed for election, but the littering and use of traditional paper propaganda is a sad case of disrespect.

I’m trying to figure out a way NOT to learn about the results of the election on Tuesday. I’m wondering how long I can last before I’m forced to learn who won. First, I’ll have to stay away from the TV, which isn’t that hard, and I’ll have to avoid the Internet, which is harder. I’m writing to the people I know to tell them not to contact me for a few days in case they slip up and reveal the election results. My wife knows to have on her poker face when she comes home from work, and we have to watch the Weather Channel if she wants to watch TV at all. Of course I can’t go out of the house, because there are those newspaper boxes everywhere. It’s occurred to me that there are places in the world where news doesn’t penetrate. Maybe in the remotest parts of China. I seem to remember stories of nomads in the Middle East who have transistor radios, so that’s no good. I believe there are tribes in the Amazon who are completely isolated from the modern world. Probably it’s too late to get a plane for there. Besides, I think they may be cannibals. But I’m trying to keep my options open.

July 14, 2014 - Voting proceeded smoothly as the students orderly casted their votes for their preferred candidates. The casting of votes started at 9am and lasted until 3 pm. After the tireless and hardworking student COMMELEC, led by chairwoman Ms. Alyssalene Raja, canvassed the votes until completion at 7pm. Special thanks to the COMMELEC for their dedication to their work.
