Election literature sent to my house during the last weekend before the election.

This flier - hung on my door by volunteers canvassing the area on Sunday afternoon - is another "Get out the vote" flyer, urging you to vote and telling you where and how.

It also has the names of the down-ticket races: Mark Warner for Senate and Jim Moran for Congress.

Some snaps from stopping by a few of our schools in Des Moines that are serving as polling locations in the 2022 election.

From Nate Silver, US election pollster, and as predicted in last week's BBC Panorama program "who will win the election"

I jotted down his prediction, and it will be interesting to see how accurate he is (UK is UKIP..he has predicted they will get one seat)

Pure euphoria was felt around the globe as the results of the 2008 Presidential elections were announced. History was made tonight while tears of joy were collectively shed by everyone.

Xavier and I joined friends at several places to wish for the best outcome... and we got it! We hung out at rowdy noize club DeRailed and never left there... DJ DaemonChadeau has a way of grabbing you by the throat in a non-stop industrial noize assault.

DeRailed was the perfect place for the American spirit. Our country was born from rebels... noisy loud rebels who refused to bend to the mother country.

The party was intense as American avies and Europeans joined together to root for change.

Earlier, I went to see old friends at Divaz and hung out there to see a rare set by DJxHalloween, the best dj on the grid. Many there were speaking about the politics and all were hoping for a Obama victory.

I got a tp from DJ Zap Hax over at R.A.R.E. and he was doing an impromptu party celebrating the election day madness. Zap never fails to create the perfect sets, and it was so grand to be there with the Europeans.

I was exhausted from a lack of sleep and excitement, so Xavi and I headed to the beach to relax for a while. We reflected on American politics, the monumental task that faces Obama, and the almost forgotten war.

We both hope that people from all affiliations will come together to work for a better and stronger America. God bless us and let us all hope for a better future for our family, friends and country. Yes, we can! Peace and Love to all!

Stanley Katz, director of the Center for Arts and Cultural Policy Studies at Princeton University’s Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs, moderated a panel discussion about the 2016 presidential election. A Q&A session and discussion with the audience followed along with commentary from the panelists.

Panelists included Ruth Mandel, director of Rutgers’ Eagleton Institute of Politics and founder of Eagleton’s Center for American Women and Politics; Sam Wang, professor of molecular biology and neuroscience at Princeton University and member of the Princeton Election Consortium; and Charles Stile, veteran political columnist at The Record of Bergen County.

Election fever is on

Elections are near, and political posters are everywhere, one even finds political symbols (every party has its own symbol) painted on the roads. Until a few days ago rallies were everywhere, too, but campaigns have to stop a few days before the actual elections. But the battle takes place via the posters and paintings, too: just paint over them, or rip off enough of posters that they are barely recognizable at all. Seen on a bridge somewhere along the road between the Glenloch tea factory and Nuwara Eliya.

At midday today the elections are past. The election campaign was not exactly characterized by affability. I decided for this farmer from Eichberg, Switzerland. Oct 21, 2007.

A total of 400,296 Kuwaiti men and women are eligible to cast ballots to choose from among some 285 candidates, including more than 20 women candidates, for a new 50-seat parliament.

We go to the polls on May 7th, My Dad's Birthday.

I hate the Tories, fucking hate them.

October 19th's Fin Review cover story suggest it's going to be a long election.

Siobhan has done a lot of air miles in her time, and for this reason she's got a platinum frequent flyer card. So while we were flying Jetstar economy, we were also able to swing by the new Qantas First lounge before catching our flight.

The lounge Siobhan is sitting on is a recliner! As a child watching Sale of the Century I always thought the Jason recliner setting was the ne plus ultra of comfort and luxury. Marc Newon must have felt so as well.

Within Qantas First, the huge ply-faced structural ribs separate areas such as this lounge, a dining area and a business traveller area with meeting rooms and computers. Much of the finishing, particularly the plastics and aluminium are fond quotes from the interior aesthetic of a commercial jet and the great curves along and across (shown above) are just great fun to be amongst. The space feels

There were however a few odd notes about the fit-out. One moment it had gracious sweep, but once in parts it's just grandiose, and at times poorly designed. This was most evident in the confusing entry experience, with no pause-point, which led to a sense of disorientation.

And there was no free wireless computing (as there is Cairns where I'm writing this). What computers were available for free wired access were quaint relics of another era, cramped on small desks and sporting only 12" screens . All strangely miserly for a First class lounge.

The abundance of white marble at the rear of the space just seems crass (see the indicator board shot). Siobhan tells me this is a reference to the old Woods-Bagot lounge of the past. Some things could best be remembered on a smaller scale.

The coffee was perfect.

Of course I'm writing this note in the Cairns Qantas Club, which feels like a shabby ante-room of an 80s convention centre; purple upholstery, black tubular steel chairs, and abundance of brass finish and smoke-glass screens and glass-topped tables in off-colour pine. Ah - the contrasts of travel.

On Election Day 1916, Jeannette Rankin (1880-1973) was elected to Congress from Montana, becoming the first woman ever elected to Congress.

A progressive pacifist and advocate for women's and children's rights, Raskin served as a Republican member from 1917-1918 and, again, from 1941-1942. She voted against entry into World War I and then against World War II (the only member of Congress to do so).

*********************

When Ms. Rankin first ran in 1916, women were not yet allowed to vote. Thus, she could not vote for herself. But, because, as a Congressperson, she voted for the House resolution on the 19th Amendment— granting suffrage to women— she is the only woman who ever voted to give women the right to vote.

When Rankin died in 1973, age 92, she bequeathed her estate to create the Jeannette Rankin Foundation, to help "mature, unemployed women workers."

Now the Jeannette Rankin Women's Scholarship Fund, the nonprofit organization awards annual educational scholarships to low-income women 35 and older across the United States. To date, the fund has awarded more than $2 million in scholarships to nearly 800 women.
