photography symmetry appears when parts of your composition mirror other parts. It is created when two halves of your scene look the same and balance each other out.

Big Rock (also known as either Okotoks Erratic or, by the Blackfoot, as Okotok) likely served as a prominent landmark for Indigenous people.
The Okotoks Erratic is a 16,500-tonne (18,200-ton) boulder that lies on the otherwise flat, relatively featureless, surface of the Canadian Prairies in Alberta [An erratic is a rock or boulder that differs from the surrounding rock and is believed to have been brought from a distance by glacial action].
This massive angular boulder, which is broken into two main pieces, measures about 41 by 18 metres and is 9 m high. It consists of thick-bedded, micaceous, feldspathic quartzite that is light grey, pink, to purplish. Besides having been extensively fractured by frost action, it is unweathered. [...]. Wikipedia

G-EZNM, Awaiting its fate during the recycling process at Kemble. Much of the aircraft has already been repurposed and reused as spares.
Airbus A319 was G-EZNM on 01/03/2005 until 01/22/2010 becoming HB-JZU with Easyjet Switzerland before rejoining the UK fleet on 03/09/2016. Retired and stored 10/2021 at Kemble to be scrapped.
At the end of an airliners lifecycle they dont just get left to rot.
All reuseable parts are either removed for reuse in other airliners, or rempved and repurposed in a multitude of ways, then the remainer is recycled in an envirenmentally manner, nothing escapes the process.
A group of bushy, late flowering, herbaceous perennials with narrow green leaves covered by clouds of daisy-like flowers; either singly or in sprays. The name of this useful late flowering plant is taken is from the Latin word meaning star - indicating the shape of its showy flower heads, borne in profusion from late summer onwards.
We're living in a neon world this summer as all the colours of nature are glowing so brightly in the constant storm light we have here.
All day, every day, there's been either a storm cell coming or going.
Temps have been milder, and we're expecting the same for Christmas Day tomorrow.
Wherever you are in the world, my friends, I hope that you have a most blessed, peaceful Christmas xxx

This week's theme of the Happy Caturday group is "Keeping warm" and it's a theme that pretty much sums up what Tofu does at this time of year. He only goes outside for five minutes at a time and then he returns either to the radiator or to one of his warm blankets. I can't blame him as I don't like the cold weather either. Happy Caturday !
I apologize for my absence lately, due to my work and family issues I had no time for Flickr and not even for taking photos. Hopefully things are beginning to calm down now and will be more present on Flickr again.
I like fun :-)

If you decide to travel along this highway into the bowels of the Universe, carry enough fuel to cover the billions of light years ahead of you. You won't find a place to refuel. When you have travelled this distance without finding anything, not even a little bit of intelligent life and you reach the far reaches of the Universe... don't be scared... there's nothing there, either. Only the "nothing". Or since everything is cyclical, perhaps you have returned to the place where you started, full of wisdom from your long trip. It's probably better to look for intelligent life on Earth, but it's also very likely that you'll have a hard time finding it. Don't worry about not understanding the Universe or the reason for its existence... you're not Einstein, but one day you'll understand that... The Universe is wounded, but it still has infinity ahead of it. It still has you and me. Merry Christmas to all and to the infinite Universe that is within you.
Gregory Alan Isakov - The Universe

Pink Floyd - Shine On You Crazy Diamond, Parts VI–IX
"Shine On You Crazy Diamond", was written as a tribute to Syd Barrett, one of the founders of Pink Floyd. He was also known as "The Crazy Diamond Syd". Barrett was a very creative musician and is considered one of the rock icons, with a strong influence on many artists, very especially to David Bowie. Syd Barrett is a key piece to understand the evolution of rock in the 70s.. Excessive drug use, especially LSD, caused him serious mental health problems. Syd Barrett died in 2006 at the age of 60. Always shine diamond.
The Universal is a science fiction song written as a tribute to two films by film director Stanley Kubrick. In the video, the Blur members wear outfits similar to Alex and his gang of thugs, the protagonists of the movie "A Clockwork Orange." The image used for the cover of the single alluded to what is possibly Kubrick's best film: "2001: To Space Odyssey."
We haven't changed that much in 300,000 years of evolution.

After our 4 day heatwave when temperatures reached 40C, we have had a wet, cool day today - only 23C. I much prefer the cooler weather and the gardens are loving the rain.
I was going through my photos from our trip to the UK in 2009 and came across this photo of a Glasswing Butterfly that I took in the Butterfly House in Stratford upon Avon. I am really missing travel and don't know when we will be able to again. Probably not this year either.

The fortress Grünwald is probably a hidden gem of Munich. It is located in the most expensive and luxurious district of Munich and surrounded by mansions and villas of footballs stars, millionaires, CEOs of several major German corporations and old aristocracy with some money :-)
The fortress got its current shape in 15th century. It was used as a country residence of Bavarian dukes, later as hunting lodge, powder magazine and VIP state prison (apparently not a very harsh one, though - all the prisoners either escaped or got their freedom back quite soon) Now the fortress belongs to the Free State of Bavaria and can be visited daily from 9 till 4 p.m.

Have a lovely day.
that's the day i was born and hence, i had a birthday on april 9th, 2009! AHHHH!
it was a fun day. though it ended with bloatedness after drinking a soy chai at a restaurant. it was the powder mix chai, which, from experience, tends to be laden with dairy... Oh NOES! . . .
in any case, it was still fun. a guy gave me a HUGE purple cellophane wrapped basket of homemade peanut butter cookies he made himself, pretty white roses, funny balloons, and a card about BOOTYBUTTS (the card i received at work was about a toilet and poo... ironic much?)! his mom got me a to-die-for gift card to starbuck's (i whole-heartedly support the local coffee and tea shops, but sometimes, they just aren't around when you need 'em the most!)
then he and i went out to breakfast/lunch/brunch/whatever you wanna call it at T.C. Eggington's. they have great vegetarian choices... "portobellini"... yum! on the way to breakfast, we saw a mother and her tiny baby ducks by the freeway in the puddle-y canal/gutter/whatever you wanna call that. it was cool because it was my birthday and they were cute, yet odd because it was by a freeway and not in a park, or in my school's irrigation or something. them duckies must be suffering economically too, eh?
so after that, i contemplated going back home to work on a commedia dell'arte mask for theatre class, but decided to just veg and hang with this guy at his apartment (i find vegging out, doing nothing a bit difficult to do sometimes).
later on, we met up with my parents to eat dinner at the Euro Cafe in Gilbert, AZ. a great foodsie greeky place. and that's where, you know, *ahem*... the soy-chai-laden-with-dairy-omg-why-did-i-order-this fiasco happened. so after dinner, with all of us feeling like cows (even though i hardly ate anything and they ate like contestants in a hotdog eating contest), we went to Wal-Mart of all places. i'm particularly NOT a Wal-Mart fan, but since i was at Wal-Mart and it might be cheaper than at other places, i bought vanilla soy ice cream because i was magnetized/hankering for some.
we finally headed home around 11pm, after which i quickly shoved this guy out the door and kissed him goodbye, so i could heat up some of those peanut butter cookies and WHAM BAM!... inhale hot cookies n' ice cream. mmmmmmmmmm... no cake this year. and i wanted it that way. no one even sang to me either i noticed, but that's perfectly ok. it's not a crime. wait wait...i take that back: he played the weird al birthday song... so essentially, i was sung to in mp3 format. :)
oh yeah, and at work today for my 'employee birthday'... i made up fruit, granola, & yogurt parfaits for everyone. someone bought all the ingredients (i requested it instead of birthday cake), and i went right to work -- whipping up those babies during my lunch break. i was so amazed some people didn't know what a parfait was or how to make them.
well, now they know :)
suffice to say, i'm on a parfait kick now. i hadn't had one in a year before that day. soy yogurt though. yes, please. :)
p.s. thanks dude for taking these kickity arse photos!

Merlin is Gismo's brother, both are now 10 weeks old.
Unfortunately, her mom didn't get along with my older cats at all.
But my sister was so kind and took care of her and since I kept the little one, there were no problems with her cats either.
However, the previous person couldn't (or didn't want to) take his brother in after all, so I brought him in too. The joy of seeing the two sweet guys again brings tears to my eyes, making it impossible for me to regret my decision.

I don't feed these birds everyday, but I think they know when I throw a few peanuts out for them. They often show up in less than half hour after I feed them. They either have a lookout watching me or maybe a security camera that they are monitoring constantly from a warm, dry location. Backyard birds, Yakima County, Washington. IMG_8655
Rhea, either of two species of large, flightless birds in the family Rheidae, order Rheiformes. They are native to South America and are related to the ostrich and emu. The common rhea (Rhea americana) is found in open country from northeastern Brazil southward to Argentina, while Darwin’s rhea (Pterocnemia pennata) lives from Peru southward to Patagonia, at the tip of the continent. Both species are considerably smaller than the ostrich; the common rhea stands about 120 cm (4 feet) tall and weighs about 20 kg (50 pounds). The common rhea has brown or gray upper parts and whitish underparts, while Darwin’s rhea is somewhat smaller in size, and its brownish plumage is tipped with white.
Greater rheas are terrestrial, walking birds, using their long, strong legs to cover greater distances. Rheas only run during social activities, like impressing a potential mate, or when threatened. Greater rheas run in a zigzag pattern, using their wings and necks to steer them in different directions. During the non-breeding season, greater rheas forage diurnally, individually or in groups. While the rheas feed, they are vigilant. This vigilance decreases as group become larger, but a solitary rhea will spend more time in vigilance than feeding.
“Either we shall find what it is we are seeking or at least we shall free ourselves from the persuasion that we know what we do not know.”

Whimberly
Consensus is either red tailed hawk or red shouldered hawk.
It has been hanging out in our yard lately and has been killing our doves and quail. While it is a beautiful bird, I really would like to deter it from hurting our dove and quail families we have. Should I just let nature take its course or is there something I can do to make it leave our yard and go somewhere else?
These 2 does are sisters that we have been lucky enough to be around since there were fawns. They are always together and are always cleaning each other as well:) We are also lucky to live among them and have come to know many of them by sight and personality. All of the other people around us do not allow hunters on their property either. So this is their safe place from humans. They still have to deal with the bears, cougars, wolves and coyotes which is just nature.

A female...or possibly a juvenile of either gender. Even after reading up a bit it still seems unclear to me. I spotted it this morning on a bush in a neighbor's garden while I was eating breakfast on the porch. It was nice enough to hang around while I ran inside to get my camera. I managed to get a few shots while my dog hopped on the table and finished my breakfast.

Lake O'Hara is one of the best-preserved places in the Canadian Rockies. It sits high in the Canadian Rockies at an elevation of 2,020m (6,627 feet). It is a beautiful sub-alpine glacial lake surrounded by the towering peaks of the Canadian Rockies. There are so many accessible trails starting right from the lake, hikers can easily spend days here without getting bored. But 11-kilometer to the lake in one way from parking lot, you can either take the shuttle or hike in. If you are lucky to reserve the shuttle, you can spare this 22-kilometer walking, save the energy to climb 10~20 kilometers mountains. Access to Lake O’Hara is strictly controlled with a reservation system, which means that it is never crowded.
Luckily got camping reservation for 3 days, it was pure nature without cell signals and electricity. Unfortunately, it was raining and cloudy most of time, plus the forest fire from Jasper, the sky was covered with foggy most of time. Here is the view of Lake O'Hara and adjacent Mary Lake, the crystal-clear lakes, hanging valleys, towering snow-capped mountains, and the pristine nature that shows the best Yoho National Park has to offer.

Apparently the hills on either side of this pass from a distance resemble the shape of a pair of....
This scene might be familiar to some of you – it's the GR III version of the "synchronized couple" relaxing on the lawn in front of the main tropical greenhouse at the Botanical Garden in Berlin that I've posted for last Sliders Sunday ("Fun in the Sun", please see the second comment). Well, this one is a little different, it's not the GR version I'd taken from the same position and with the same point of view as the Lensbaby SOL 22 photo which I originally wanted to do either as a monochrome or as a slider for today. But I was never happy with any of the monochrome versions I've processed, because whatever I did, contrasty b&w, soft, sepia... when the colour was gone, all of the sunny lightness and summer ease was gone, too. I've also processed a vintage style colour version of that photo for today, but then stumbled upon this photo with the palm tree and bench (only half of it, but I still think it's a nice element in the image), and I liked that a little better, because it's the same scenery, but a completely different photo, and it also shows a little more of the beautiful ambience of the Botanical Garden. And while this photo actually works well in mono, too, I decided to keep it in colour. Maybe I'm not in "mono mood" right now ;)
DXO PhotoLab processing steps: sharpening and DeepPRIME denoising, a little sliding in ClearView Plus and Smart Lighting, and for the colour rendition (which I usually keep as is) I chose a Leica M10-D simulation, because it added such a nice, creamy-summerly turquoise touch to the blue sky. Next step: Analog Efex for a vintage post card look (Classical Camera preset 7, tweaked), and next.... As far as I recall I also did something in Color Efex (Skylight Filter, most likely), and I also did something in ON1, but since I processed all the different versions of the two GR photos at the same time, I probably got the further processing steps mixed up...
Happy Sliders Sunday, Everyone, stay safe and take care!
A brief description of this photo:
A while ago, someone who shall remain nameless, had put out a photo with a catchy description, inviting participation. That said, I took part in said event only to suffer multiple injuries, the only one of which that I made known was the damage done to my hand by their apparatus. With that said, I was kindly rebuked in my mentioning of my injured hand. Then...in another encounter with said individual, I was told to send them my medical bill...well, since they offered. I took them up on it and on my way to mailing my bill to them, since it was tax season and they could afford my medical BILLS...ahem. I went to my mailbox to submit my envelope and tripped over another ill kept SL sidewalk, thus causing me to lose my balance and my crutch and in doing so, my envelope was taken away by a strong wind... a suspicious wind, mind you but nonetheless..my envelope was lost as well as my medical BILLS, that they were going to pay. The only proof of this, is one of the many CCTV that SL has in our cities.
If the person who is responsible for my broken hand sees this, my bill is forthcoming either by SL Postal Carrier or a strong Windlight wind!!!!
Now I'm off to pop some Oxy, as all this typing aggravated my hands, both good and broken!!!!
PS If anything is misspelled or is seen as an incomplete thought... I was in extreme pain typing this and reliving the whole experience.
The Naiads were either daughters of Zeus or Oceanus. If a naiad's waters dried up, she would die.
The Naiads were often objects of local cults, which they worshiped as goddesses of fertility. Their waters were sometimes attributed a magical healing effect or prophetic powers. The Naiads were also known for their extreme jealousy. According to a story by Theokritos, the shepherd Daphnis was the lover of the naiad Nomia. Since Daphnis was unfaithful to her a number of times, she punished him with blindness in revenge.
