Foraging for food at the water's edge.

Somewhere along the California Coast.

Macro Mondays: Edge.

In this shot of the Pacific Tree Frog (Hyla regilla), there are two edges represented.

Edge 1: I was trying to capture the leaf edge to show how thin the support structure was for it's perch, a Blueberry plant; which nevertheless, is sufficiently strong enough to support the frog's small 3/4 - 2 inch frame.

Edge 2: The most important edge of all. Amphibian's populations worldwide are declining rapidly and becoming extinct (approx. 200 sp. to date), due to chytridiomycosis, a fungal infection. The fungus is in British Columbia, and from what data I could gather, the Rough-skin Newts and Western Toads are among those at risk.

The Pacific Tree Frog, so far, has not been affected. This could be due to the fact that the frogs with extra moist skin, who like to sun themselves for longer, kill the fungus on their skin with the sun's heat.

So, this shot, which I darkened the surroundings to represent the impending doom for so many species worldwide, stands for those amphibians hovering on the edge of non-existence.

Frozen and windswept meadows edge fenceline- I was really drawn to the shadows, barbed wire, and weathered fenceposts here :)

Happy Fence Friday -and- Happy Snow Moon tonight!!

Curbar Edge, Peak District.

Rather than composing the image looking over the edge I wanted to capture the clouds behind where the sun was coming up. Was hoping for some fire in the sky, but it never really caught fire.

View over the famous ridge line of Striding Edge with Red Tarn below.

Not a cloud in the sky here, just the leading edge of some fast moving fog. I came over a rise and saw this during a last light Bobcat hunt in Point Reyes on Sunday. It was quite a sight, and I'm glad the fog waited until right before we headed home to show up.

It's been around 12 years since I photographed Harland Edge,

It's a beautiful place that feels remote and untouched.

(025/365) Yet another plant I've acquired from my dear old Dad. Every time I go over to visit my parents in England he has various plants lined up for me to bring back in the car. This is some kind of Begonia houseplant, not sure of the exact variety. We've had it 3 or 4 years now.

The variegated foliage is very pretty, best viewed Large to see the tiny hairs on edges of its leaves. This plant produces delicate white flowers on long stems. It is actually flowering at the moment so I'll try to remember to take a shot as my daily photo.

08/100x : my 100 photos will be of foliage.

Red foxes are more abundant than were previously thought in Yellowstone. The many miles of forest edge and extensive semi-open and canyon areas offer suitable habitat and food for foxes. They are widespread throughout the northern part of the park.

The irresponsible stupidity of some people never ceases to amaze me.

There are frequent cliff falls here at Birling Gap, and yet people still go to the very edge and look over. I couldn't believe it when I saw this family with 2 young children walk to the edge, although they did take hold of their hands before they got there. Plus it was blowing a gale and a small child could easily get blown over.

HMM! Everyone :0)

Standing at the waters edge is a metaphor for a border between this world and the next. When we stand there we look out and contemplate. At least that’s how I interpret this scene. For all I know they could be talking about where to go for dinner. Read more: goo.gl/H8wrVq

I'm still not overly happy with this.

Thanks to Dustin for jumping on the edge of a cliff.

The Dark-edged Bee-flies were making the most of some spring sunshine and spring flowers at Stow Maries Halt Nature Reserve today! Happy Wing Wednesday everyone!

I found a spot in a woodland where the evening sun was shining through a gap in the trees. Nice to get the sun's rays together with the sun flaring on the side of bubbles.

"EDGE". Until I got really close to this Cactus Rose, I didn't know it had stickers on the edge. This photo looks like a bigger area but it is actually about 2 inches wide, the sticker is less than 1/32 inch.

Taken during that curious Spring period of glowingly warm temperatures and little or no rainfall...you can see the 'parched' earth in this picture, which occured between some of the wettest spells for decades, ultimately making 2007 the wettest year since the 1920s in the Norwich area as with many other parts of Norfolk.

This shot takes us right down to the water's edge. Inspired by the Martian parallel I thought I'd try this one with a sepia finish that edges a little into the red tones.

The third oldest lighthouse in Australia towers above the rocky landscape, protecting the shipping lanes from the rocky reefs that extend out quite some distance into the water.

I love how there are different scales of jagged in this image. The Thorns are a form of jagged edge at a larger scale, the spines on the rose leaf is another jagged edge, and the smallest scale of jagged is along the modified leaf along the edge of the leaf stem. I would expect all three levels of jagged edges to provide the plant with constituent defenses against predation (herbivory).
