I've gone whole winters without once seeing ice settle on the saltwater shore. Usually, it's confined to the cliffsides, frozen falls and towering icicles, melted the moment they reach the tideline. But this season, a sustained shiver has filled the shallow coves and inlets with thousands of baby burgs, spread out randomly in a sort of obstacle course underfoot. Here, it's been helped a little with freshwater from Fraser Brook, turning things a bit more brackish. This was an afternoon of sleepy sunlight, and I felt like a cat curled up wherever I went, moving slower with a gentle edge against the ever-intrusive cold. It's still so far from any actual break, anything that could be mistaken for spring — but lazily lengthening days shine up so dramatically when the sun shows. You think we'd've lost patience by now, start telling that ball of fire to get lost if it keeps insisting on hiding for weeks at a time. Guess we're just eternally forgiving when it comes to seeing the light.

view out the back window of our hut @ Djuma. We were right on the very edge of the camp - literally *nothing* between us and Sabi Sand/Kruger. Animals could (and did) come right up to and through the camp - there was a trail that wound past the hammock, under this window and off into the tall grasses. Something snuffled during the night! That silver line in the middle of the shot is a single strand of electric wire, which is used to try to discourage elephants and buffaloes from coming into camp and wrecking stuff. It's not strong enough to stop them if they really want to come, tho - more of an irritant. As if *angry* elephants are a better thing to have.
Hessle whiting Mill sits within a country park which used to be part of the chalk quarry. Dotted around are signs of its industrial past, including these 6ft edge runner millstones from the mill, still bound together with their gears and metal bands.
The game takes place in the dystopian city of Glass, the showcase city of the nation of Cascadia. After a bitter secession from the authoritarian nation of OmniStat and years of conflict and violence Cascadia falls under the rule of the Conglomerate, an oligarchy comprising 13 large corporations. The most powerful corporation is Kruger Holding, whose patriarch Gabriel Kruger has monopolized the city's law enforcement under his Kruger Security (K-Sec) division.
Two quick left-overs that i didnt have time to process yesterday.

There's something instantly compelling about autumn running low. There's been little rain lately, and where the streams rely on mountaintop lakes to really get flowing, things seem still. What takes the place of rolling rapids is a slow cascade of leaves, settled pools not swept away, stuck to rocks and waiting on the next big downpour. It's been a slow, slow shift of seasons – enough to take a deep breath and appreciate the languid turning. I've walked this span of jagged bedrock so many times before, watched the banks of Schoolhouse Brook put the water in its place. It's equally moving with only a trickle, just the scattered progression drawn in from springs that never stop flowing. There'll be a raging waterfall rushing this way before too long, I feel it boiling under the surface, dogeared edges of calm. Breathe deep while you can.
