The Serengeti ecosystem is a geographical region in Africa. It is located in north Tanzania and extends to south-western Kenya. It spans some 30,000 km2. The Kenyan part of the Serengeti is known as Maasai (Masai) Mara.
The Serengeti hosts the largest terrestrial mammal migration in the world, which helps secure it as one of the Seven Natural Wonders of Africa and one of the ten natural travel wonders of the world.The Serengeti is also renowned for its large lion population and is one of the best places to observe prides in their natural environment.
The region contains the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania and several game reserves.
When there is a half moon, the difference between high and low tide is the smallest because the gravitational pull from the sun and moon counteract each other. This is known as a nip tide.
The Accokeek Foundation hosts a weekly on farm market featuring produce grown organically on site at the Ecosystem Farm. Saturdays, 10 - 2 through the growing season (June - Nov)

From one perspective, bees and flowers appear to be independent organisms that just happen to be symbiotic. While extracting nectar from flowers, bees "unintentionally" pick up and transfer pollen to other flowers.
A more complete (albeit simplified) point of view is that flowers and bees are actually different aspects of a single organism, since each is vital to the survival of the other. That they seem to be separate is really only an illusion.

The MA framework was applied in a wide range of assessments at multiple scales. Particularly for the more local assessments, the framework needed to be adapted to better reflect the needs and concerns of local communities.

This project is building the climate resilience of poor communities in the cities of Thimphu (Bhutan), Kep, Phongsaly and Oudomxay (Lao PDR), and Mandalay (Myanmar) using Ecosystem-based Adaptation (EbA) - the strategy of protecting or restoring ecosystems to reduce the negative impacts of climate change.
In Phongsaly and Oudomxay, the project is restoring watersheds and riparian areas by using climate-resilient species that slow down the water flow and increase water infiltration. Further, in Oudomxay, the EbA interventions of watershed restoration and the creation of plant nurseries are combining with ecotourism efforts to protect ecosystem services and livelihoods of local communities.

Leopards the Serengeti Masai Mara ecosystem.
Back in the 1960's there were over 200,000 lions in Africa. Today there are less than 15.000 a decline of approaching 90%. Of those 15.000 remaining lions, only around 2.500 are adult males - the target of lion trophy hunters.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Baltimore District Commander, Col. Trey Jordan hosted a special tour of the Paul S. Sarbanes Ecosystem Restoration Project at Poplar Island for partners and invited guests, Oct. 11. Included were representatives from the Baltimore District, the Maryland Port Administration, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Region III, the Maryland Geological Society, the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science, US Fish and Wildlife Service and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers North Atlantic Division.
