AEC Regent V/Weymann, seen leaving Imperial Road, Exmouth during the Devon General remembered event on 31st August 2025.

Captured at Haldon Forest near Exeter earlier today after the rain had pushed through and the high cirrus cloud stretched across the sky seen from a clearing in the trees.

Kersbrook arch, Budleigh Salterton. In March 1953 the County Council authorised the lowering of the road beneath Kersbrook arch, which had been requested by the Devon General bus co. to allow the use of double deckers on the Sidmouth-Exmouth route on the condition that the Devon General concern pay for it, which they did, at a cost of £2000! Lowbridge bodied double deckers started using the route on Jan. 1st 1954. This stretch of road has long since been by-passed and is slowly going back to nature while the overhead trackbed is a public footpath and cycle route. You can see by the concrete reinforcements at ground level each side just how much the road was lowered. As usual, the brickwork is fabulous!

A fine Sunday afternoon, but not many people about. We stopped first at Beer, but the place was packed, and the only parking was a half-hour slot on a corner; so we got back in the car and drove over the hill to Seaton, and found parking aplenty. There were still queues for the ice cream, though ...

A do like to take a slice of English landscape sometimes. Just an ordinary, not necessarily picturesque, segment of it. Just the normalness of it.

Delighted the clouds cleared and we were able to get a view of the Moon and Jupiter whilst we were on holiday in Beer, East Devon!

As I have stated before, panoramic images don't tend to go down too well here on Flickr, I don't know if it is because they often tend to have smaller thumbnails, or if it is that they often get cropped to square thumbnails in areas such as 'Contacts photos'. Anyway, I like them so I will be stubborn as usual and keep posting them.

This was an 8 min exposure taken a few weeks ago. I have struggled with using the ND110 filter at sunset and it is somewhat of a steep learning curve compared to the relative simplicity of constant daytime lighting conditions. As the light is fading I either get images which are massively under exposed, or I over compensate and blow my highlights. With an 8 min exposure you often only get one shot, if you blow it……… Very frustrating!! I am quite pleased with this though, particularly as stated before, working with colour is another steep learning curve I am on and this image is the sum of a combination of challenges.

East Devon, UK - 30th January 2023

Another Exe Estuary dawn, from Starcross, Devon. Taken a short time (11 mins) after the previous photo by when it had turned orange/red.

On a Boxing Day morning which followed an afternoon of excess, I was in little shape to venture far afield to Dartmoor, so Woodbury Common it was.

I first photographed this tree way back in 2010 (and which I've posted on my Flickr stream) and had always fancied a return visit at sunrise to see if an interesting sky and a silhouette would work.

The sky obliged this morning and this was about as good as it got. Do I prefer this or my original effort? I don't know.

I did spend ages trying to figure out why I couldn't replicate a compo taken at 35mm accurately enough for my liking. It's only now, several hours after coming home, that I've remembered that my original shot was taken on a crop sensor camera. Doh!

Thanks for looking.
