Maori frequently travelled this route to Milford Sound/Piopiotahi to collect pounamu (greenstone). In 1888, a track was cut up from the Arthur Valley to Sutherland Falls, with the first known European crossing of the pass made later that year. Today, approximately 14,000 people walk the Milford track each year, making it one of the most popular walks in New Zealand.
Donald Sutherland and John Mackay found Mackay and Sutherland Falls in 1880 and possibly crossed Mackinnon Pass before pioneer explorer and surveyor Quintin Mackinnon.
In 1888, Sutherland and others were commissioned to cut a track up the Arthur Valley as far as Sutherland Falls, while Mackinnon was employed to cut a track up the Clinton Valley from the head of Lake Te Anau.

While out west we did a fair amount of driving without having a clue of where we were headed, there were a few times times where I really felt like the proverbial "ball in the weeds" aka... (lost), however, getting lost along a dirt road can be so rewarding.
🌅 A Sunday sunrise at Maenporth beach then a couple of weeks ago —sunbeams pierce the gloom, painting the sky in strokes of gold and shadow. A moment where the world holds its breath, and time feels still. ️✨

Good Morning Wednesday!
There’s something magical about waking up early when the air is crisp and silent. The world hasn’t rushed into noise yet — it’s just you, a cup of coffee, and the light slowly pouring in over the horizon. 🌅✨
These moments remind me to slow down and breathe — not everything needs to be loud to be powerful. Nature teaches us that. The soft rustle of the trees, the golden light through the mist, the stillness before the day begins… it all whispers strength in silence.
Take today one step at a time. Let the views you pass fuel your spirit, not just your camera roll. Let the sky remind you to dream, and the earth remind you to stay grounded. 💭🌱
And if today feels a bit too heavy — remember, every sunrise is a fresh chance to begin again. You’re not late. You’re right on time. 🌞

The Kaikoura Peninsula Walkway winds from the town centre to lookout points at Point Kean. Close by, the rock platforms are home to a colony of New Zealand fur seals. The 1800s Fyffe House is a cottage built on a foundation of whalebones, with displays on the town’s whaling past.
Koekohe beach is home to some interesting wildlife. There is a yellow-eyed penguin sanctuary, a seal colony and Hectors dolphins can be seen playing in the waves off the beach.

Mount Sunday is a stunning site with expansive views of the Rangitata River and the surrounding mountains.
The small hill got its name because boundary riders from the high-country stations would meet here on Sundays. More recently, it was the filming site for Edoras in The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers.

Punakaiki Sea and Rock, captured with a scanning back.

A digital or scanning scan back is a digital camera back. Digital imaging devices typically use a matrix of light-sensitive photosensors, such as CCD or CMOS technologies. These sensors can be arranged differently, like a Bayer filter, where each row captures RGB components, or using one full-sized layer for each colour, such as the Foveon X3 sensor.
A digital scan back takes a similar approach to the second type of photosensor, but instead of using one matrix for each component, it uses one array per component. This translates to a 3×N sensor matrix, where N is typically a large number (between 5,000 for earlier models and 15,000 for newer models), which is then placed vertically in a holder. To take an image, the sensor travels the x-axis, taking one exposure per point.
I just love hiking in mountains, and once I had this incredible view. This shot was taken from a small platform between the rives of a river in french Alps. It was a little bit risky because with people around me. I didn't want to fall.
I just love the contrast on this image with the green of the forest against the brown of the rock !
I hope you enjoy this shot !
Lake Alexandrina is a lake located in the Mackenzie Basin of New Zealand's South Island. It lies immediately to the west of the much larger Lake Tekapo and further to the east of Lake Pukaki, located to the north of Lake Tekapo township.
"Golden hour magic meets timeless engineering. Caught this windmill standing proud against a fiery sky, with silhouettes adding just the right touch of story and scale. Sometimes, the best moments are the quiet ones we almost miss."
The Tasman Sea is a marginal South Pacific Ocean sea between Australia and New Zealand. It measures about 2,000 km across and 2,800 km from north to south. The sea was named after the Dutch explorer Abel Janszoon Tasman, who in 1642 was the first known European to cross it.

The beach and campground at Tōtaranui are a place of tradition and hold a wealth of childhood memories for the generations of families who return year after year. The crescent-shaped bay of powdery golden sand has a picturesque tidal inlet and is located at the northern end of the Abel Tasman National Park.
Loosely translated as “many totara trees”, Tōtaranui is framed by regenerating manuka and kanuka, southern beech, podocarp and totara.
