she stood still, map in hand, her fingers tracing paths that twisted and turned, just like the alleys of palma. the plaza mayor was nearby, but it might as well have been miles away in her mind. sunlight cut through the shadows of the old streets, her silhouette cast sharply onto the patterned tiles beneath her feet.
a tourist, no doubt, searching for direction in a city where the streets seem to have a will of their own. the grid of the tiles below her mirrored the confusion—orderly but endless, a maze of lines leading everywhere and nowhere.
the photograph captures that moment of pause, the stillness of someone caught between where they are and where they want to be. palma does that to you, makes you lose yourself before you can find your way again.
Most of my 'older' Flickr friends know how I feel about Explore. For several years I have been making my Explore pics for private viewing only, due to them being shockingly bad.
However, during lockdown, I had some free time and thought about my photography journey. I feel that despite 'cringing' for years, 'it is what it is' and I decided to make some of those horrors public again.
I have recently descovered that my Flickr friends are being bombarded with my more than 'testing' images.
Apologies and please just ignore them, they will go away shortly. Take care and stay safe!

Plants with twisted, gnarled stems sprouted bulbous, glowing fruits that emitted a sickly-sweet aroma, while others seemed to undulate in the breeze like writhing tentacles.
The explorers were both fascinated and repulsed by these alien plants, wondering how they had evolved to survive in such a strange and hostile environment.

A Daisy fleabane stem is explored by a Ladybug. Well it's not really a daisy, it is in the Aster family and now Erigeron annuus. The Ladybug is one of 6,000 small beetle species distributed world wide. The "lady" refers to mother Mary. Entomologists use the names ladybird (UK) beetles or lady beetles to avoid confusion with true bugs.
