Taken from 1-Chome 15-1 Hanakawado apartment rooftop. A 25 seconds exposure captured both colors of the Skytree. The weather was cooperative at that moment, had to wait for the rain to stop though. Somewhat lucky! I hope it will be of interest to some of you. Once again, thanks for looking!

Looking north at Granite Mountain from Whiskey Bottle Trail - McDowell Sonoran Preserve North. East of Scottsdale

I went out to the Fraesfield Trailhead to scout for sunrise locations. Leaving my house the sky was mostly clear so I figured this was going to be mostly hiking and not much photography so I left my tripod at home. As I hit Happy Valley Road and crossed over the mountains the clouds were rolling in over the Superstitions and the Salt River. Made me regret not bringing my tripod.

I found some spots on the Whiskey Bottle Trail for sunrises. I'm going to scout the Granite Mountain Trailhead. So far I still like the spot on the Marcus Landslide Trail.

I stopped at the Brown's Ranch Trailhead to scout for sunset spots. Some potential.

The Whiskey Bottle Trail is a new trail in the expanded northern section of the McDowell Sonoran Preserve. The trail starts at the Fraesfield Trailhead and heads northwest across the northeast side of Fraesfield Mountain and terminates at Powerline Road #2. From there, you can go back the way you came, or continue throughout the system of trails making a larger loop back to the Fraesfield Trailhead.

We finally got back to one of our favourite places to walk. After having to shelter under the trees whilst a rain storm passed over the rest of our walk was dry and most enjoyable.

Dear ANDORE Customer,

Today, I’m announcing the official closure of the ANDORE brand.

Six years ago, the world of Second Life welcomed a new creative venture — ANDORE. What began as a modest collection of ear & accessories quickly grew into something far greater than I could have ever anticipated. I was genuinely moved by the warmth and enthusiasm with which you embraced my designs. Your support, passion, and love for my creations have meant the world to me.

Throughout the years, I have worked tirelessly to bring you joy through fresh ideas and thoughtful design. However, as time went on, the brand became closely — and almost exclusively — associated with ears. While this recognition is an honor, it has also limited the broader creative vision I hold for the future.

As I observed other brands evolve and diversify, it became clear to me that ANDORE is capable of much more. It is more than just one product or a single aesthetic—it holds the potential to grow, expand, and inspire in new ways. And for that to happen, change is necessary.

It is time for a transformation.

In order to breathe life into something new, we must first let go of the old. For this reason, the ANDORE group will be closed to new members, and the in-world store will be temporarily unavailable. Existing products will be gradually transferred to the Marketplace, and eventually removed from the in-world location.

However, this is not a final farewell. ANDORE is simply stepping away to return renewed—reborn with a fresh identity, a new vision, and reimagined ideas.

As for the beloved ear accessories—fear not. I am excited to announce the creation of a separate brand: LEX.

LEX will carry forward the legacy of ANDORE’s signature ears and jewelry, while expanding into new areas of body customization. The new group for LEX will be available to join free of charge until April 15th, after which a fee will apply. A link to the new group will be included in the post description and shared within the ANDORE group announcements.

I wish to express my deepest gratitude to each and every one of you who has supported ANDORE over the years. Your loyalty, creativity, and enthusiasm have been a constant source of inspiration.

Thank you for being part of this journey—and thank you in advance to those who will join me as I continue this next chapter with LEX.

With heartfelt appreciation, ArtemZgursky

The pointe Saint-Mathieu (Lok Mazé in Breton) is a headland located near Le Conquet in the territory of the commune of Plougonvelin in France, flanked by 20m high cliffs.

At present, there are only a few houses on the point, grouped around the abbey ruins. However, in the past the settlement was not limited to the abbey and its dependents. Very soon a village was established along the coast for commercial potential and the possibilities for salvaging wrecks.

The abbey held many privileges - right to rushes, right to furnaces, rights to a twelfth of jet, right to markets, right to fairs (Henry IV of France had instituted, in 1602, 5 annual fairs and a weekly market), right to measure wheat and wine, etc...

In 1157 Hervé de Léon accorded the abbey the right of flotsam and jetsam on wrecks in all his fiefdoms; in 1390 the abbey received the right to take 10% of the hull, cargo and rigging of wrecked ships. To this right were added the right of remains, confirmed in 1602 by royal letters patent. He accorded this right to the monks for "all those who perish in the sea, and on the coasts at Saint Mathieu, Plougonvelin and le Conquet".

Today abandoned, the Abbaye Saint-Mathieu de Fine-Terre, was said to have held the skull of the apostle Matthew, now lost in the ocean off the point. Its ruins served as a set for the summer TV saga Dolmen.

The point also has a 56m high lighthouse, built in 1835.

The first signal station near the point was built in 1806, but the present one was built nearer the point in 1906, to give a view of the chenal du Four as the entrance to Brest. Progressively expanded in the 20th century, its top is now 39m above sea level, with lodging for spotters.

WINTER forests mutely standing

Naked on your bed of snow,

Wide your knotted arms expanding

To the biting winds that blow,

Nought ye heed of storm or stress,

Stubborn, silent, passionless.

Buried is each woodland treasure,

Gone the leaves and mossy rills,

Gone the birds that filled with pleasure

All the valleys and the hills;

Ye alone of all that host

Stand like soldiers at your post.

Grand old trees, the words ye mutter,

Nodding in the frosty wind,

Wake some thoughts I cannot utter,

But which haunt the heart and mind,

With a meaning, strange and deep,

As of visions seen in sleep.

Something in my inmost thinking

Tells me I am one with you,

For a subtle bond is linking

Nature's offspring through and through,

And your spirit like a flood

Stirs the pulses of my blood.

While I linger here and listen

To the crackling boughs above,

Hung with icicles that glisten

As if kindling into love,

Human heart and soul unite

With your majesty and might.

Horizontal, rich with glory,

Through the boughs the red sun's rays

Clothe you as some grand life-story

Robes an aged man with praise,

When, before his setting sun,

Men recount what he has done.

But the light is swiftly fading,

And the wind is icy cold,

And a mist the moon is shading,

Pallid in the western gold;

In the night-winds still ye nod,

Sentinels of Nature's God.

Now with laggard steps returning

To the world from whence I came,

Leave I all the great West burning

With the day that died in flame, .

And the stars, with silver ray,

Light me on my homeward way.

Countryside around Antananarivo close to Ivato International Airport

Antananarivo (French: Tananarive), also known by its colonial shorthand form Tana, is the capital and largest city of Madagascar. The administrative area of the city, known as Antananarivo-Renivohitra ("Antananarivo-Mother Hill" or "Antananarivo-Capital"), is the capital of Analamanga region. The city sits at 1,280 m (4,199 ft) above sea level in the center of the island, the highest national capital by elevation among the island countries. It has been the country's largest population center since at least the 18th century. The presidency, National Assembly, Senate and Supreme Court are located there, as are 21 diplomatic missions and the headquarters of many national and international businesses and NGOs. It has more universities, nightclubs, art venues, and medical services than any city on the island. Several national and local sports teams, including the championship-winning national rugby team, the Makis are based here.

Antananarivo was historically the capital of the Merina people, who continue to form the majority of the city's 1,275,207 (2018 Census) inhabitants. The surrounding urban areas have a total metropolitan population approaching three million. All eighteen Malagasy ethnic groups, as well as residents of Chinese, Indian, European and other origins, are represented in the city. It was founded circa 1610, when the Merina King Andrianjaka (1612–1630) expelled the Vazimba inhabitants of the village of Analamanga. Declaring it the site of his capital, Andrianjaka built a rova (fortified royal dwelling) that expanded to become the royal palaces of the Kingdom of Imerina. The city retained the name Analamanga until the reign of King Andriamasinavalona (1675–1710), who renamed it Antananarivo ("City of the Thousand") in honor of Andrianjaka's soldiers.

This stunning image, captured by the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope’s Advanced Camera for Surveys (ACS), shows part of the sky in the constellation of Sagittarius (The Archer). The region is rendered in exquisite detail — deep red and bright blue stars are scattered across the frame, set against a background of thousands of more distant stars and galaxies. Two features are particularly striking: the colors of the stars, and the dramatic crosses that burst from the centers of the brightest bodies.

While some of the colors in this frame have been enhanced and tweaked during the process of creating the image from the observational data, different stars do indeed glow in different colors. Stars differ in color according to their surface temperature: very hot stars are blue or white, while cooler stars are redder. They may be cooler because they are smaller, or because they are very old and have entered the red giant phase, when an old star expands and cools dramatically as its core collapses.

The crosses are nothing to do with the stars themselves, and, because Hubble orbits above Earth’s atmosphere, nor are they due to any kind of atmospheric disturbance. They are actually known as diffraction spikes, and are caused by the structure of the telescope itself.

Like all big modern telescopes, Hubble uses mirrors to capture light and form images. Its secondary mirror is supported by struts, called telescope spiders, arranged in a cross formation, and they diffract the incoming light. Diffraction is the slight bending of light as it passes near the edge of an object. Every cross in this image is due to a single set of struts within Hubble itself! Whilst the spikes are technically an inaccuracy, many astrophotographers choose to emphasize and celebrate them as a beautiful feature of their images.

When the donation contract between Peter and Irene Ludwig and the city of Cologne was signed in 1976, the Wallraf-Richartz Museum had already become too small to adequately present all the works of art entrusted to it. The municipal council and the administration therefore decided to build a new building, the Ludwig Museum, to jointly house the 20th century art collections of the two museums.

The location chosen for the new "double museum" was an area between the east choir of the cathedral and the Rhine. The site was bounded to the north by the railway lines and to the west by the Römisch-Germanisches Museum (Roman-Germanic Museum) and the cathedral. The project offered the opportunity to once again consider connecting the region to the Rhine, long isolated by a busy national road and railway line, since rail traffic there was to be discontinued in 1978. Automobile traffic was also to pass by the Rhine. Bank Tunnel, completed in 1982. The historic city center was thus able to open up onto the Rhine again.

An area of 260,000 cubic meters was provided for the structure, a volume corresponding to that of Cologne Cathedral. If this immense volume avoids appearing intimidating or oppressive, it is above all thanks to the superbly arranged and elegantly combined elements of the complex. This is evident in the zinc-clad shed roofs, which contribute significantly to the building's distinctive appearance in the urban landscape. The facades are clad in bricks, the vertical rows of which enliven the exterior of the building with their modest ornamental structure. Also helping to avoid an intimidating appearance, the architects located underground those parts of the complex that do not require natural light. These include the Philharmonie concert hall as well as technical spaces and car parks.

Originally built for two museums, the building now houses only the Ludwig Museum. Its properties continued to expand, notably thanks to the sustained patronage of the Ludwigs. In 1994, the couple also donated their important Picasso collection to the museum. The connection with the Wallraf-Richartz Museum was dissolved and in 2001 the institution, renamed the Wallraf-Richartz Museum Corboud Foundation, opened its doors in a new building of its own. Designed by Oswald Mathias Ungers, it is located between the town hall and the Gürzenich village hall.

*

The door of Hernani, is one of the five entrances to the Buen Retiro park, along with Madrid, Felipe IV, Spain and Independence.

*

Retiro Park is undoubtedly the most emblematic of the city of Madrid park, both for its size, its location, in the heart of Madrid, and especially for its unique beauty and the various elements that compose it.

*

Its origin dates from the time of Philip IV, when the initiative of his minister the Count-Duke of Olivares, a series of land for the use and enjoyment of the royal family are dimensioned, and a series of palaces are built inside, ponds and gardens for the amusement of kings. Over time, the park was expanded, and indeed elements that today are outside the Parque del Retiro, as the Cason del Buen Retiro, or the Army Museum.

*

Throughout its history, the Parque del Retiro was mistreated especially in two stages, during the War of Independence, when French troops used it as a fortress against the harassment of British troops, which devastated the majority of the palaces and gardens, and the Spanish Civil War, where also the Retiro suffered a great punishment.

This is an expanded version of the Lake Railway I built for Brickvention 2020. The original version was a single table (3 x 6 baseplates) and sat behind another table. I have now expanded it forward by 32 studs, and built a new section of mainline to sit in front.

To make it more interesting, the front section is lower, with the track built up on embankments. The rear section now looks a little flat, but I didn’t want to completely redesign it. Also, I was running out of green plates!

The sheep are a cross between Mike’s and another design I found of Flickr.
