I went to agricultural exhibit this July. I came from of country dependent on agriculture and this is a reflection of me. I took a chance to sit by smoky and take few clicks. The disaster that forest fire does is massive and smoky is character to bring awareness in people. I felt special to be beside smoky.
Deforestation and forest fire are threatening the life of human. The imbalances in ecosystem and disaster are impact of human activities on nature. Smokey is inspiring character not only to child but for people of all ages. My children grew up seeing movies of nature and characters involved in those inspiring movies. It was amazing to see smokey in the exhibit and took a chance not to be with this character.
I like documentaries about nature and especially forest and wild animals. Smokey is a character of inspiration and leader of protest against forest fires. We should preserve and protect fire and I am man who supports to stop deforestation and forest fires.
ZAP! POW! BAM! The Superhero: The Golden Age of Comic Books, 1938-1950 exhibit at the Jewish Museum of Maryland (in Baltimore).
In Spring 2014, UNM University Libraries, the National Hispanic Cultural Center (NHCC), and the LAII, among others, partnered around the exhibit "Getting Up Pa 'l Pueblo: Tagging ASAR-Oaxaca Prints and Stencils," which was on view at the NHCC Art Museum.
"Getting up" is slang for posting and applying images in public places. Generally, the expression refers to street art. This exhibit features block prints and stencils from the Assembly of Revolutionary Artists of Oaxaca (ASARO) collection in the College of University Libraries' and Learning Sciences, Center for Southwest Research and Special Collections (CSWR) at Zimmerman Library at the University of New Mexico. ASARO is a contemporary Mexican artists' collective working in block prints, stencils and graffiti murals. The group was formed in 2006 after riot police repressed annual teachers' demonstrations in the state capital of Oaxaca.
Curated by Suzanne M. Schadl (Assistant Professor and Curator of Latin American Collections in the UNM libraries) with help from MALAS student Mike Graham de la Rosa, this exhibit was a memorial to Distinguished Professor of Art History, David Craven (1951-2012) whose infectious enthusiasm for Latin American Art, theory and popular movements were reflected in the project.
