A camera toss series. I hadn't done any of these in a long time and thought it good to revisit the bare essentials considering it was a camera I had not used for the technique yet. A single white LED provides the light source, exposures vary from .7sec to 2sec. What is produced is essentially an inverted physiogram (inverted in that it illustrates camera motion rather than subject motion) and can tell you alot about the movement possible with a given model of camera.
I also had been meaning to do this simplistic series for a while, because I feel achieving something aesthetically wonderful does not require an overly complicate light source, the beauty is ultimately due to the motion.
All images in this series are directly from my Kodak Easyshare 3.1mp camera, no hotoshop, no cropping or manipulation other than image rotation.

Clothing, diet and shelter. These are the three most essential ingredients for life in a harsh land. We'll come to an example of the shelter soon, so just a quick word here about clothing and diet.
The First Tasmanians were among the most cold adapted people in the world. As we saw yesterday, during the last glacial maximum (ice age), shelter, clothing and fire were all essential for survival. Animal skins formed a large part of the clothing, and natural ochres and animal body fats were often spread over the skin to add a layer of insulation.
Clothing had little to do with status, that was often shown through necklaces and other ornamentation. Bodily scarification or cicatrization was also used to designate social position through rites of passage rituals.
The First Tasmanians hunted and harvested food from their surrounding environment. There has been a modern resurgence of interest in "bush tucker" or foraging for food, but needless to say there was enough nutritious food to be found on the land and in the coastal waters to sustain small populations.
Diet is one of the main reasons why population growth was so slow over so many generations. This is not just true here, but all over the world. The move from hunter gatherer clans to societies of land cultivation (agriculture) led to rapid increases in population and the rise of settlements and cities. This never happened in Australia before colonisation and so population levels remained low.

This has a very strong and distinctive smell that is hard to describe. Read the tags for a complete list of the oils in this, they are quite smelly! We don't want to put any chemicals on Shizandra. So we put this on her before taking her outside.

The store was already suffering from the Wal-Mart which opened across the highway. It eventually closed in the spring of 2010 and was vacated with a couple of years left on the store's lease.
