A free afternoon last week allowed me to go shopping for essentials. What are essentials, you ask? Well, I never know until I see them.

Costco was pretty busy today but I was able to go shortly after they opened and pick up some essentials for Thanksgiving on Thursday.
Let the cooking begin!

During lockdown we were told to shop for essential supplies only. Some of my make up ran out over the months, though it hardly mattered because I wasn't wearing much.
Now I'm out again and I declare make up to be essential supplies, so I went shopping.

A camera toss series. I hadn't done any of these in a long time and thought it good to revisit the bare essentials considering it was a camera I had not used for the technique yet. A single white LED provides the light source, exposures vary from .7sec to 2sec. What is produced is essentially an inverted physiogram (inverted in that it illustrates camera motion rather than subject motion) and can tell you alot about the movement possible with a given model of camera.
I also had been meaning to do this simplistic series for a while, because I feel achieving something aesthetically wonderful does not require an overly complicate light source, the beauty is ultimately due to the motion.
All images in this series are directly from my Kodak Easyshare 3.1mp camera, no hotoshop, no cropping or manipulation other than image rotation.

What a concept! Are there also moderately minimal pictures? Minimalism in my book is the art of leaving out all but the essential. If you leave out more, you either get a totally different picture, or, more likely, a statement or a joke. This is a joke. It began with a contest Extremely minimal in the group that is now (but was not then) called "Less is more: The best". I started with a "moderately minimal" picture of mine - (below) - and the post is the only way I could think of to make something more "extremely minimal".
Imagine this! It actually became #1 (with only 15 votes...) in the contest. I'm still in doubt if it is a photo at all.
So are the moderators of the group "Less is more: The best". At least, when I submitted the photo to that group - after it won the latest contest in the group - it was not admitted :-)

Waverley Steps is a stair link of unique character linking Princes Street to Waverley station, an essential pedestrian route in the centre of Edinburgh.
From Wikipedia
The staircase was opened in 1902 as part of the adjacent development of the North British Hotel, which at that time belonged to the North British Railway Company together with its flagship station, Waverley station.
The dramatic flight of steps are flanked by original 1902 shops on the east and Waverley Market on the west. Waverley Market was originally a curious Victorian multi-level structure occupying an awkward stone quarry on the edge of Princes Street. The original market was demolished in 1974 having become structurally unstable, and redeveloped a decade later as a multi-level underground shopping mall. It has been remodelled several times thereafter in an effort to increase its popularity, but with very limited success.
In 2010 Network Rail removed the original staircase, in order to add both an escalator and lift (to the south), and critically covering this external area withba glass canopy. The new system opened in 2012.
This was primarily to address disabled access requirements. From 2012 the steps have been secured at the north end (onto Princes Street) if the railway station is closed.
