I have been trying to catch a train in this location for weeks now. I was wanting the Railroad House and a CSX freight in the same frame. It took long enough but I finally did it! : ) Fast forward almost two years to July of 2018 and I got another chance to repeat the shot...

One would never know it was in the 40's in Medicine Bow, Wyoming yesterday, for shortly after 4pm, it was 14 degrees with a new 8-to-10-inch blanket of snow. The wind was unusually light for most of the day, though, and it appeared to be business as usual on the UP even though US30 through town was officially closed.

A couple of GE's lead this auto train west with an unknown standard cab trailing unit (I couldn't pull a number from any of my captures and I will forever be curious, especially with the low grilles beneath the radiator area but no tunnel motors run these days, do they?). I was hoping the impending meet with an approaching eastbound might occur here but no such luck today. (11-17-2018)

Commemorative locomotive CSX 3194 was the rear DPU on the westbound Q015 seen leaving Connellsville, PA. It is very rare for this to come through here. The police station is actually located right behind the trees. Photo as seen in the September 2021 issue of Railpace Magazine.

The “Spirit of our Law Enforcement” specialty GEVO was the reason I was up at 0415 for the drive to Sand Patch and many pixels gave their lives for this and many more images.

The Western & Atlantic Railroad of the State of Georgia (W&A) is a government-owned railroad (by the State of Georgia) and is currently leased by CSX, which CSX operates in the Southeastern United States from Atlanta, Georgia, to Chattanooga, Tennessee.

It was founded on December 21, 1836. The city of Atlanta was founded as the terminus of the W&A, with the terminus marked with the Atlanta Zero Mile Post. The line is still owned by the State of Georgia from Atlanta to CT Tower in Chattanooga; it is leased by CSX Transportation.

The W&A Subdivision is a railroad line leased by CSX Transportation in the U.S. states of Tennessee and Georgia. The line runs from Chattanooga to Marietta, Georgia for a total of 119.1 miles. At its north end, it continues south from the Chattanooga Subdivision of the Nashville Division and at its south end, it continues south as the Atlanta Terminal Subdivision.

This line, originally built to 5 ft (1,524 mm) gauge, is famous because of the Great Locomotive Chase, also referred to as Andrews' raid, which took place on the W&A during the American Civil War on the morning of April 12, 1862. -From Wikipedia

Inside Union Pacific Sargent Yard are CSXT 94 with the Q531-02 consist that will become the UP MNVNL and the MSFNL-03 with UP 8199 as the lead unit. Taking advantage of some vacation time at work and early morning summer light, I headed to one of the few remaining Searchlight Signal bridges on the old Santa Fe Transcon.

I may have mentioned that I always seem to catch one of those UP trackage rights trains when I'm up on the Transcon. Well, today I caught two - back to back - as train #6 on the day was right on the heels of train #5. Gotta love the homemade number boards on the leader!

A little shade was cast upon the CSX's PoPo ES44AC-H as it switches the Q016 at Chambersburg after a run from Chicago.

I was thinking about going for the classic curve shot in Knapp, but there were some pretty nasty weeds along the right of way. I had to settle for this less than ideal spot east of town.
