CSXT 983 leads train I022 east in Huntington, MA. The Worcester-bound train is traveling on CSX's Berkshire Subdivision, commonly known as the B&A. The low fog, fall colors, and the golden morning sun made for a tasty scene.
Operating on trackage rights over the NS TO90 is North of Kingsport And will get back on their lines at Kingsport where the train will be delivered to Eastman Chemical. That Red Bud on the side of the hill sure looked good.
E207 is passenging the Buckingham Branch station at Goshen and the crew has a straight shot to the fuel pad at Clifton Forge. It was a pretty good afternoon
Operating on trackage rights over the NS T090-11 is crossing Copper Creek bridge with a train load of coal destined to Eastman Chemical plant located in Kingsport. Of course 694 had just past not 10 minutes earlier.
They have taken too much from us. When will it stop

Thanks to a tipper and updates from WR, I was able to catch CSX I-007 rolling past the ketchup bottle water tower at Collinsville, IL on the former Conrail (nee Pennsy) St. Louis Line. Just barely avoided getting screwed by a glinty windshield.
The crew apparently fancied themselves internet stars based on the foamer attention at the grade crossing visible near the end of the train: "I wanna know when I'm gonna get my million dollars"
At the last light of September 24th '16 this northbound train made up of wagons of various types and administrations leaves the town of Boulder (CO) and is pulled by a BNSF 8045 (ES44C4) + CSX 3207 (ES44AC-H) + CSX 302 (AC44CW)
H750 is crossing the James River at Lyle Virginia back in October of 2019. This line only has 2 manifest trains operating on it the H750 and its counterpart the H751.
when JJL texted me about the 3194 being on the point of an empty coal train coming over the BB, I changed my plans and IIRC we got 8 sets
The sun sets early within the deep canyons of the Colorado River outside of Glenwood Springs, Colorado. Despite it only being about 3 PM, the sun is just barely still touching the peaks of the cliffs as a trio of BNSF ES44AC's lead the Denver to Provo manifest through the canyon on UP's Glenwood Springs Subdivision. A UP maintenance of way trainset picking up scrap ties along the line has pulled into the siding here, across the river from the Grizzly Creek Rest Area, allowing the BNSF through freight to pass by as it heads west.

I hadn't been out to this favorite spot in months, but since it was splendidly beautiful decided to take a little drive after work to see what the color looked like. It is getting pretty good and I think I'll need to get back here once or twice more as it peaks. Here is morning stalwart train I022 (Syracuse to Worcester intermodal) crossing crossing the Quaboag River at about MP 75.5 on CSXT's Boston Subdivision. Running 1×1 DPU with locos head and rear, CSXT 3179 (GE ES44AC-H blt. Apr. 2012) is seen here on the point.
Thanks to a new family of beavers that built a lodge right on the shore last year there are a lot less trees and brush and the scene is nicely opened up and has been kept clear by the industrious rodents. The ancient twin stone arch bridge dates from the line's construction in 1839 as the Western Railroad, that when completed in 1842 formed the longest and most expensive railroad constructed in the United States up to that point.
The three predecessors merged to form the Boston and Albany Railroad in 1870. Thirty years later the B&A was leased by the New York Central Railroad and the line would pass successively to the Penn Central in 1968, Conrail in 1976 and CSXT in 1999. To this day it remains as the preeminent freight route and the only Class 1 trunk line still serving New England...truly a testament to the forethought of those who laid out and built the line over 180 years ago.

CSX GE ES44AC-H 701 and a SD40-3 were curving through a B&O CPL-infested scene with the Cincinnati Bungles stadium in the background.
At the time it was laughable to think that the Bungles would reach the Superbowl in 2022.
A steady rain falls as CSX 911 leads B410 east under the former Norfolk & Western mainline. CSX 5236 with DPU's CSX 3187 and CSX 312 are also helping haul the 220+ car loaded coal train.
Dinner would be serve late tonight as we all know when you have the light a train you don't go home until you run out of trains or light. 207 is rolling through Craigsville via trackage rights on the Buckingham Branch and we followed him to Clifton where we ran out of trains and by the time the got off the fuel pad it would be well after dark.
Nine days have made a huge differnce in the color here compared to this shot from the prior Wednesday: flic.kr/p/2nSEjzY Here again is morning stalwart train I022 (Syracuse to Worcester intermodal) crossing crossing the Quaboag River at about MP 75.5 on CSXT's Boston Subdivision. Running wirh two units on the head end this time CSXT 3013 (GE ES44AC-H blt. Apr. 2012) and 498 (GE AC4400CW blt. Apr. 2001).

While not like the glory days by any means, the old Boston and Albany is far and away the busiest freight corridor in New England and still puts on a good show. Most mornings in Palmer if you time it right you can see three eastbound freights (one each auto rack, manifest, and intermodal) as well as the local all by 11 AM or so.
Here is another one of those typically busy mornings. Moments after Q264 sailed by on the main and taken from the same angle, we see the specially painted Honoring First Responders unit 911 (GE ES44AC-H blt. Jul. 2008 that received this special one of a kind scheme in April of 2019) on the point of a massive Q436 (Selkirk to Worcester manifest). They arrived with 75 loads and 60 empties but have made a cut and now are shoving back on the 20,600 ft controlled siding to drop 30 cars on the east end of the small but busy Palmer Yard near MP 82 of the modern day CSXT's Boston Sub.

Looking more like something from the western mountains, UP 8155 fresh from Minntac screams into Keenan with a familiar engineer on board. This train is bound for Louisiana and is running 1x1 and over 20,000 Tons.
CSXT Selkirk to Waterville manifest train M426 cuts through the Worcester Country Club in this view looking across the snowed in green of the 8th hole. A pair of elderly AC4400CWs lead an ES44AC-H gevo at about MP X5.2 on CSXT's ex Pan Am nee Boston and Maine Railroad Worcester Mainline.

With just minutes of sunlight remaining in the day, the UP 8113 pulls west through Grantville, KS earlier this week with a westbound grain train.
After having gone through most all of the town here, it will take the crossover from M1 to M2, for the left-handed run into Topeka. Unfortunately, the shadows had gotten long enough by this point that by the time that the train was IN said crossover, there were shadows over part of the leader throughout it.
A southbound rack train passes the old searchlights at Consaul. Today, the signals and codeline are gone unfortunately.

So when I was out with JJL on Thuesday the #952 was pn the point of the grain train I posted earlier. It's Sunday morning and the #942 is on the point H750 assisted by a GP40/Slug set up front assisted by another of Erie's finest buried in the consist. The chase was on.
Digital Camo In The Snow. In spite of the significant snowfall on the morning of February 19, 2021, CSX Q409-18 was making good time on the River Sub until holding near the Hackensack River at Pineview Avenue in West Nyack, New York for a meet. The snow accents the colorful CSXT 1776 (ES44AC-H, Spirit Of Our Armed Forces), followed by CSXT 3194 (ES44AC-H, Spirit Of Law Enforcement). These units are 2 of 3 "Spirit" units painted by CSX to appreciate the work and commitment of public service and emergency workers. Thank a veteran not just on Veteran's Day but every day!

Here is another look at the brightly painted visitor that came to New England briefly leading CSXT train I014, an extra peak season premium intermodal train. from North Bergen, NJ to Worcester. First responders unit 911 is a GE ES44AC-H blt. Jul. 2008 that received this special one of a kind scheme in April of 2019.
The hot train is seen coiling through the horseshoe curve and passing beneath Pleasant Street and through a small rock cut before hopping over the French River behind me. They are passing through the little old mill village of Rochdale at about MP 53 on CSXT's Boston Sub, the one time Boston and Albany mainline, with their final terminal only 8 rail miles away.

I was free one morning and matched up with JJL for a trip down to Clifton Forge. We are at Eagle Rock and the fog is still burning off as G755 hauls up to the fouling point to meet H751. BTW this was pretty much a headlight meet and we didn't wait long at Lyle waiting to shoot him again.
