On a free day between guests, I ran up to Petoskey to visit my cousin and took a detour through the hamlet of Horton Bay, on the north shore of Lake Charlevoix. This place is famous for being the summer haunts of author Ernest Hemingway. Hemingway was taught to fish by Vollie Fox, owner of the Red Fox Inn, and later married one of his wives in this village. A descendant of Mr. Fox now owns this establishment as a bookstore. (another photo inside)

The Queen Anne home was constructed in 1890 by his grandparents. He was born here July 21, 1899. The home was sold out of the family in 1905. It was bought by the Hemingway Foundation in 1992 and became a museum in 2001.

The house was built by Asa Tift, a marine architect (and Confederate mariner), in 1851. In 1931 Hemingway purchased it and lived here with his second wife, Pauline, and their two sons until 1939.

Here, Hemingway completed the final draft of "A Farewell to Arms," as well as "The Snows of Kilimanjaro" and "The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber".

[A Moveable Feast]

Saw this wolf at the OKC zoo. He came up to the water to take a dip because it was HOT! He reminded me of this Hemingway quote.

This was a restaurant that a local told us about. Most people would not eat here but the food was excellent. He started out with a wagon cooking the fish he caught daily. He just kept adding on and it is a bizarre place, but we enjoyed it.

"And don't fall in love with typewriting paper".

"If I do, I'll write with a pencil".
