"Colonius is the Cologne telecommunications tower, which was finished in 1981. The Colonius possesses a cafeteria, viewing platform, and a restaurant, apart from antennas for radio relay and radio services within the VHF range. Because of a missing leaseholder, the visitor's area including restaurant and viewing platform is currently closed. At the time of its completion the Colonius was 252.9 meters high. In 2004 a radio tower added by helicopter increased the height to 266 meters. This addition allowed the broadcast of digital television (DVB-T) from the tower in the Cologne/Bonn region."

Transrapid
"Transrapid is a German high-speed monorail train using magnetic levitation based on a 1934 patent. Planning for the Transrapid system started in 1969 with a test facility for the system in Emsland, Germany completed in 1987. In 1991, technical readiness for application was approved by the Deutsche Bundesbahn in cooperation with renowned universities. The current application-ready version, the Transrapid 09, is designed for a cruising speed of 500 km/h (311 mph) and allows acceleration and deceleration of approximately 1 m/s² (2.24 mi/min²). In 2004, the first commercial implementation was completed: the Shanghai Maglev Train, which connects the city of Shanghai's rapid transit network 30.5 km (18.95 mi) to Shanghai Pudong International Airport. The Transrapid system has not yet been deployed on a long-distance intercity line. The system is developed and marketed by Transrapid International, a joint venture of Siemens and ThyssenKrupp. At the end of 2011, the operating license for the Emsland test track expired, and it closed down. In early 2012, demolition and reconversion of the entire Emsland site including the factory was approved."

'Corneliusplatz' is located between the 'Tritonenbrunnen' at the northern end of the 'Königsallee' canal and the southern edge of the 'Hofgarten' in the middle of Düsseldorf's city center. As a Wilhelminian 'jewelry' square, its green area was considered one of the most beautiful and popular in Düsseldorf. In 1882 a neo-baroque bowl fountain designed by the sculptor Leo Müsch was erected in its center. The square is named after Peter von Cornelius, the first director of the 'Kunstakademie Düsseldorf', whose monument stands in the 'Hofgarten' and which forms the axis of view to the north.

"Rheinbrücke Uerdingen", built in 1933-1936
The suspension bridge was opened as the "Adolf Hitler Rhine Bridge" in 1936; it replaced the ferry that had connected the opposite banks of the River Rhine before. In 1945 the bridge was destroyed by the German Army to keep the Allied Troops (WWII) from crossing the River Rhine. The reconstruction started in 1948 and ended in 1950. Restoration work on the bridge took place from 1984 to 1993 and in the year 2014.
I took this picture with the 7Artisans 7.5mm on my eosm3. It's a manual focus so it was a skillful challenge technically, but my concern was to frame it so I could tell the story with the perspective lines provided by the tree shadows. No editing so far.
"Cube houses (Dutch: Kubuswoningen) are a set of innovative houses built in Rotterdam and Helmond in the Netherlands, designed by architect Piet Blom and based on the concept of "living as an urban roof": high density housing with sufficient space on the ground level. Blom tilted the cube of a conventional house 45 degrees, and rested it upon a hexagon-shaped pylon. His design represents a village within a city, where each house represents a tree, and all the houses together, a forest.
The houses in Rotterdam were designed in 1977 in a plan of 55, of which 39 were built.
The houses in Rotterdam are located on Overblaak Street, right above the Blaak Subway Station. There are 38 small cubes and two so called 'super-cubes', all attached to each other.
As residents are disturbed so often by curious passers-by, one owner decided to open a "show cube", which is furnished as a normal house, and is making a living out of offering tours to visitors.
The walls and windows are angled at 54.7 degrees. The total area of the apartment is around 100 square meters, but around a quarter of the space is unusable because of the walls that are under the angled ceilings.
In 2006, a museum of chess pieces was opened under the houses.
In 2009, the larger cubes were converted by Personal Architecture into a hostel run by Dutch hostel chain Stayokay."

"Tintern Abbey was founded by Walter de Clare, Lord of Chepstow, on 9 May 1131. It is situated adjacent to the village of Tintern in Monmouthshire, on the Welsh bank of the River Wye, which forms the border between Monmouthshire in Wales and Gloucestershire in England. It was only the second Cistercian foundation in Britain, and the first in Wales. Falling into ruin after the Dissolution of the Monasteries in the 16th century, the remains were celebrated in poetry and often painted by visitors from the 18th century onwards. In 1984 Cadw took over responsibility for the site.
The present-day remains of Tintern are a mixture of building works covering a 400-year period between 1136 and 1536."
