Slow Business Day: Banco, Madison County, Virginia

Updating my take on a location I last visited a year ago, this is the west atrium inside the 35-storey CityPoint Building on Ropemaker Street. I would have used any excuse to revisit the location because it's such a beautiful example of geometric urban architecture, but my aim when reshooting this look-up was to capture a wider, sharper, brighter and slightly more balanced finish.

The image is a blend of seven exposures, allowing for a very clean finish in the shadows while controlling the highlights at the top of the atrium. Using luminosity masks combined with dodging and burning, I was also able to emphasise the structure of the building and the reflections in its glass. Finally, I desaturated the warmer colours within the windows (where, even at dusk on a quiet Sunday, there were people working), and created a gradient map to add a slightly cooler tone within the shadows.

After going on a year of no actual content I'm happy to say I'm back. Started back with something relatively simple, also known as my Self-MOC. He comes with a few bonus features this time, like a scarf, peacock tail, and oversized bat ears.

Special thanks to EMMsixteenA4, Ventum, and Zach for helping me pull the final touches together. Check them out if you haven't.

The second law of thermodynamics states, "Heat cannot spontaneously flow from a colder location to a hotter location." In other words, there is a constant decay and disorganization that happens in nature from order to disorder in attempt to equalize energy across the system. Entropy is the measure of this disorganization as observed here with this fence. Originally a part of the 1952 movie Shane, it has since been moving from a state of orgization to a state of dissaray.

Built for SHIPtember 2022.

This one was a bit of a speed run, with building and photography all taking place within the span of 4 hours (including lunch!) on the last day of September.

It was an interesting experience, especially for my first SHIPtember. I'll probably actually allocate more time to it next year. That, or speedrunning SHIPtember might just become my thing. We'll see.

Thank you for Exploring!

Giraffes are generally found in groups. The associations of members of these groups tends to be rather loose and ever changing. Mothers and their young tend to be the most stable members of any particular group, however, other members may change as hours go by. Like many animals of the Serengeti, giraffes also follow the adage that there is safety in numbers. They simply don't form many of the same strong social bonds as many other animals in Africa, like elephants or lions. So life as a giraffe may be one big social party and breeding is fairly polygamous. ‪#‎iLoveNature‬ ‪#‎iLoveWildlfie‬ ‪#‎WildlifePhotography‬ in ‪#‎Tanzania‬ ‪#‎Nature‬ in ‪#‎Africa‬ ‪#‎Seregeti‬ ‪#‎Giraffes‬ ‪#‎MassaiGiraffes‬ ‪#‎DrDADBooks‬ ‪#‎Canon‬ ‪#‎WildlifeConservation‬

An image of existential expression, showing life's brief inherent isolation and its inevitable evaporation into its component parts. Islands of individuality, clinging insubstantially to a surface reality that is tenuous at best before falling both metaphorically and in reality, to nothingness.
