(...behind a purple flower)

As I was putting my camera away before catching the tram, I looked up and saw this lady watching me out of a tram window.

I lifted my camera, pressed the shutter… and her tram moved on….

Thanks for all the faves and kind comments!

The seed pot of a star magnolia !!

We were walking along a trail in The Australian Arid Lands Botanic Gardens, Port Augusta when we encounter this Wallaby standing very still, partly in the shade.

I just have enough time to snap before it quickly hopped off.

Wallabies are marsupials related to kangaroos.

There are about 30 species of wallaby.

The natural habitat of the wallaby varies by group, such as the brush, rock, swamp, forest and shrub wallabies.

The lifespan of wallabies varies by species, but ranges from about 7 to 18 years.

Wallabies are almost identical to kangaroos but smaller.

They range in size from the size of a rabbit to almost 2 meters (6.5 feet) from head to end of tail.

The soft, woolly fur can be gray, brown, red or almost black. The belly is lighter.

Wallabies are herbivores. They eat a variety of plants such as grasses, sedges and leaves.

Many thanks for your visit, comments, invites and faves...it is always appreciated...

There are some insect encounters that I treasure and this is one. I had been taking photographs of flowers in my yard. Walking past our chimney, I saw movement out of the corner of my eye. There, at eye level, was a wasp....and it was moving right towards me.

I quickly changed to manual focus and hoped the shots I was taking would be somewhat clear. I'm sure my heart was beating quickly, yet I tried to hold my breath to steady the camera. This was the last image captured. Whew!

...happy sunday...:-)

Are they friends, family, or strangers? Summer in the city.

These stairs at MUDEC (the Museo Delle Culture) in Milan were pretty freaky. Slightly other worldly and the light at the top was amazing.

Close encounter with a bunch of blossoms. Montenaken, Belgium.

When you enter the Dutch national park The Veluwezoom, the sings kindly ask you to keep your distance from the animals, that are allowed to roam freely. But what if the horses doesn’t keep their distance to you! I was photographing a tree, when I suddenly noticed an impressive horse behind the bushes. I scared a bit, and saw even more horses appear through the fog and they came really close. They didn’t seem to bother at all about my presence, and eventually I decided to just go on with what I already was doing, make photographs! This little one kept coming closer and this gave me the opportunity to make this shot at 40mm. I was the only one around at the time, and felt a bit relieved when the horses finally moved on. But I have to admit that I also felt blessed by this almost magical encounter, the literally came out of nowhere, and for that moment where I almost felt a connection with the animals and the environment. I think I’ve said this before, but through photography I had many experiences which I normally would have missed. It really lets me live in the moment and that’s only one of the major benefits. Well, who am I speaking to? You already know of course!

Thanks for having a look! All faves and comments are highly appreciated!

Though I live very near the woods and sometimes even see deers in my garden, the magic of these moments is never lost on me.

……But don’t be frightened, it’s not an Alien it’s only an ‘Alan’. Me making a spectacle of myself for ‘Smile on Saturday’ and the theme this week is ‘Profile Portrait’. One of many encounters you watch when you spend time on a meadow with a camera. The insect on top of the flower is probably some sort of hairy hoverfly whereas the one hiding below is a Phasia hemiptera, a tachinid fly species.

It was only three months ago I last featured this tree and blimey what a change in surroundings! Long gone are are winter colours, replaced by an engulfing crescendo of green!

A different take on this encounter.

On our last night in the Grand Teton National Park, I had scheduled for us to be at Schwbacher’s Landing at sunset. This was the first location we visited prior to making our way up to Yellowstone NP a few days before. We shot this location at sunrise (I still haven’t posted any of those images) but I really wanted to see what kind of light I would get at this time of day.

I was actually shooting the scene of the mountain range about 30 yards down to the right when I decided I had enough of that spot and that we should head back a little to get a few more compositions from back closer to the trailhead. As we were shooting, a single moose came out of the pine trees and walked all the way to the marsh in front of us (about 20 yards away!) and those amazing sunset rays were peaking over the range.

Snow + Sunrays + Moose = Jackpot! We saw in total five moose on our few days in the park and it really made our trip. This was our first time seeing them in the wild. The others were all males with big antlers over near the Gros Ventre area. That is a story for another day.

A brief encounter with 37403 "Isle of Mull" in platform 2 at Carnforth.......... having rode behind her down from Preston, back in August. 2016.

The film "Brief Encounter" 1945, was based on a one act play of 1936 by Noel Coward, titled "Still Life".........

She glides through her domain, the snow falling softly on her flesh, not melting simply waiting for the soft breeze to caress the snowflakes off her skin. A warm smile is elicited from her lips as a chance encounter brings her before the noble creature of her forest.

A composite, clearly, and a bit of a clumsy one at that... I was looking through old family pics and found a picture of my niece I had taken about 45 years ago. I thought a bit of a different mood might be interesting.....
