Empty Sky is the official New Jersey September 11 memorial to the state's victims of the September 11 attacks on the United States.
It has been a long time since I had done any night time exploring. It was freezing as we picked our way through the abandoned factory, across broken glass and stripped out wire. After heading up the stairs, we made for the roof and set up.After inexplicably losing any ability to control the camera on the roof, we headed down to the long factory floors. I wasn't sure on the current status of security here – there certainly is some. Lights were on, and vehicles on the site. On the corner of buidings are cameras, and so it was important to not show any light. It was very dark inside.
Try hard as we might, we were unable to spot any chocolate wrappers on the floor anywhere in the factory. It was little consolation that those nasty people who have systematically stripped every last piece of metal out of here had remembered not to drop any litter and take it home with them to put in a bin.
Having watched the TV programme about the great empty property scandal I've really got the bit between my teeth, and am busy taking photos, because I think being homeless and sleeping rough must be terrible.
However, properties like this - which look as though they've been empty for years, are apparently deemed 'commercial' and so are outside the remit of the Empty Property Officer.
I still think it would make a homeless family a good shelter.

This empty, stained plate is the remnants of a Thanksgiving well spent. This is also an important tradition in her home post-Thanksgiving: the Leaving of the Dishes. Contrary to every other meal, my grandmother has us leave our plates on the table. Then we sit down and talk about what's going on in our families. She always insists on doing this because, so she says, keeping the house clean should be second to the family. This is very much indicative of hispanic homes in general. Family is the most important thing to her and she will forgo her usual crazy cleanups for that time with the family.

I know there are plenty of photos showing how shopping malls are emptying out across America. These snaps are from a walkabout at Valley West Mall in West Des Moines. We used to go here for Christmas and back-to-school shopping and to catch a movie. Today two of the three department stores are empty and while a few stores remain much of the traffic seems to be people taking an indoor walk.
