A pair of EMD SD60Es lead this intermodal train through Swatara on NS' Harrisburg Line, running elephant style.
CSX M403 heads south past CP-22 in Blauvelt, NY, on the River Sub with an SD70MACe leading two geeps bound for North Bergen.
It is a gorgeous late September afternoon at General Motors Electro Motive Division plant in La Grange Illinois, as the public is welcomed in for a look at how locomotives are built, along with some classics from past production. Here, we see some visitors descending the golden staircase after taking a peek inside the cab of a EMD GP30.

The last unit in a series of 25 DD35s rumbles through Provo, Utah in fresh paint on April 5, 1977. UP 98B was built by EMD in September 1964, retired from the roster in September 1979, and sold for scrap to Azcon Hyman Michaels in Alton, Illinois in August 1980.
BNSF SW1500s 3429 and 3407 (ex-Frisco now with GN reporting marks) roll across Grassy Point Draw after the laker John G. Munson cleared on its way to C. Reiss in West Duluth.
While in Michigan to attend my daughter's graduation from Adrian College, I had a few minutes to follow Adrian and Blissfield GP9 1752 around town as it worked some local industries.
The 1752 was built by EMD in 1957 for the Central Vermont and retains its as-built appearance.
BNSF's 104, 341, 339, 329 and 108 work the M-CWHSPO Chewelah turn towards Deer Park, WA, heading for Spokane.
This is a truly unique train, run entirely by GP60 variants due to track restrictions from the tight curves limiting it to only 4-axle locomotives.
A fairly huge fall from grace for these locomotives considering they once were at the helm of Santa Fe's intermodal trains some three decades ago, however still wonderful to see them earn their keep.

A pair of EMDs pull four General Electric ES40ACi's and nine CM20-EMP's on their first leg of a journey overseas. The locomotives were built in Erie, PA and are heading for South Africa (ES40ACi) or Indonesia (CM20-EMP's.) Running as NS 098, the export move is heading for the docks at Norfolk, VA where the locomotives will continue their journey by ship.

Conrail OIBU swings through the curve at Garfield, NJ behind an impressive five unit all-EMD consist with 96 cars in tow. In reality the trailing three units are GP38-2s returning to Suffern or Campbell Hall after being serviced at Oak Island Yard over the weekend. It was common for BUOI to grab local power on a Saturday that was due for servicing and bring it to Oak Island. OIBU would return the units on Sunday, as seen here. Included directly behind the power is a cut of NYC subway cars on flat cars heading west (perhaps to Hornell, NY) for rebuilding.

NS 12G rolls east past some colorful foliage at milepost 116 behind a newly rebuilt SD40E and a pair of SD60Ms.
UP 5077 east comes off the siding at Dodson after waiting for a westbound to clear. Second out is a former Pittsburgh & Lake Erie MP15 that did some time on the UP before being retired. On this day, it was being shipped east to an unknown fate.

A North bound CSX freight train with an EMD SD70 leader and a Canadian Pacific loco trailing, clears Ravanel, SC.

BNSF M-EVESUM heads north for Sumas through some farmlands scenes on a gorgeous summer evening. 6-22-23
Forget about that trail fail heritage unit. The star of the show is the Spartan cab leader! The SD70!
Intermodal train 21T got a bit of a late start out of Harrisburg and finally thunders over the stone arch bridge crossing the mighty Shermans Creek at CP CANNON.
BNSF M-EVELVW, the Everett to Longview manifest, heads south along the Puget Sound coastline at Chambers Bays Beach. While it may only be a low priority manifest, the SD75M duo sandwiching a triclops SD60M is a prime example of why this train & its northbound counterpart are some of the higher sought out trains in the area since it often gets this kind of power. 6-23-23
CSX 4711 Shoves up the grade at Habersham TN next to the L&N searchlights along the KD Subdivision. 4711 shoves up at full throttle making the Tennessee Mountains echo with the famous EMD how.
Leaving the loop: once PN Hotshot 4MP7 was clear, it was headlight on and time for AK82 to depart the silo-less Long Plains. It was time to get the drone airborne again and catch S303 and GM10 as they both emit puffs of blue as they power up: Nov 30, 2022
A salute to Howard Kent Jr. much better shot of 816 posted 3/18/24. I once again got wet. 9/67 Hoboken, NJ. Sinatra turf.

Wth the sun out, I had to make a visit to see if Minnesota Northern had anything tied down on its mainline at Dakota Junction north of Thief River Falls, and sure enough, a mix of Independent Locomotive Service power presented itself. ILSX 1340 is a former Kansas City Southern SD40-3, ILSX 1318 is a former Canadian Pacific GP9, and ILSX 1309 is on one of its nine lives after a career with the Indiana Harbor Belt as IHB 2920 and designated as a SD20.
BNSF's racetrack is certainly an amazing place to spend some time. This has been on my bucket list for a while, and I was fortunate to get to spend some time watching trains here. As the famous home of EMD, I knew LaGrange was going to be a target for me. I was elated when this EMD leader crested the hill, allowing me this classic photo of an EMD leader in LaGrange. While not an SD40 or something cool like that, it's still neat I was able nail a proper leader in this famous location.

We had a decent chase of SSR grain train 3248, led by a rare and superb-sounding five pack of C507-RL301-C506-RL306-RL304 (all SD40 equivalents).
Despite unexpected heavy cloud, we were up early and caught the train at a good number of sun spots. Thanks to Graham Cotterall for carting us around.

NREX GP16 1852 of obvious Seaboard System heritage was bringing up the end of a rather large offering of EMDs in Iowa City in 1996.
Crandic SW14 108 and NREX GP10 7708 were also hitching a ride either to or from NRE in Silvis behind the Crandic road power consisting of CIC GP9s 100-105 as it was preparing to back onto the Crandic road job
I was going to chase this mess to Cedar Rapids, but Iowa Interstate decided to roll through town with a better mess of locomotion. IAIS CBBI was powered by a pair of GP10s, a GP38, the C420 and a M420.
I elected to chase that mess to the Quad Cities instead,
YSPMP heads west along the Midway Sub towards east Minneapolis yard. It was a pretty chilly wait, with lots of wind but I figured it was worth it for a trio of EMDs. Lots of stacks on the head end, always a welcomed sight. This would later meet TC&W light power at St Anthony.
On a side note, I did edit those ditchlights on, they were turned off as they were meeting yard power that was doing switching for Midway Yard.
A trio of EMD widecabs leads this Becker load which is just a few hundred feet from diverging into the power plant spur.
I was racing from Big Lake to capture another shot of a westbound. But it was holding in Becker for back to back loaded trains going into the plant.
I made to the crossing just in time to realize that this wasn't an ACe or a GEVO.
This H2 SD70MAC has been playing in the snow, but it looks good on the point of this train in full sun!
There used to be a station sign near here but was removed during the double track expansion. That would've made for a neat shot, but this crossing shanty will do.
