A pine tree growing on seemingly bare rock, cozily nested in its own niche in the canyon wall. Seen along the Canyon Trail at Kasha-Katuwe Tent Rocks National Monument. Kasha-Katuwe means "white cliffs" in the local Pueblo language, a very appropriate name.

Talk about bad management... I was rather excited to go to such a place at night; the Metropol Parasol, a rather controversial piece of architecture in an old city. But for me it had it all-
High views!
Unusual architecture!
You could visit until 11pm! Whoo!
But.
We weren't able to stay long. Arriving at 10 we bought our tickets and headed up to the top (I'm not going to go into detail about how we couldn't find the entrance... that's very 'me'. You know the drill by now)
where instantly the man working there told us we had 5 minutes left until close. ARGH.
What followed was a vague attempt to enjoy the wonderful feeling of the place whilst frantically taking photographs from every angle I could run to. It wasn't fun, and it's a shame that bad management ruined what should I have been a really interesting, unusual experience. Still, I have a couple of good photographs... I'll remember through them.
Embrace the sight, sound and smell of the ocean waves as they repeatedly collide with the rocky
shoreline, progressively carving into the existing rock, and ever slowly changing its masterpiece.

While in Yellowstone, I captured this herd of bison during a rainstorm. Every so often they would shake their massive heads violently to get the rain off. Their eyes would roll back, and water would go flying in every direction.

..that is the name of the cookie :)..and I think it is perfect for the holiday as we all need a hug once in a while
Taken with Helios 44-2 58/2
This is a repost of an image I captured in March. Why? Because while I was at the PSA conference in Colorado Springs last week I got word that I won the Bird category of Nature's Best Windland Smith Rice awards, which means this image will be blown up to a few feet by a few feet and be on exhibit (with the other category winners and some "highly regarded" images) at the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, D.C., from the end of April through January 6, 2013. Photography has certainly given me a huge amount to be grateful for.

You have to see human rights as an all-embracing concept. It could be something that would unite the world, if it could only be seen in that light.

Another sunset image from three weeks ago, where the light and the resulting flare of my Helios were just incredibly beautiful. Hope you like it too!
“Life is like climbing a mountain. You may encounter many setbacks and obstacles, but each step brings you closer to the summit.”
Picture is from my archives (2008) of a holiday in Normandy, the North of France.
We hired a little house in Epagnette along the Somme.

For me, beauty is valued more than anything - the beauty that is manifest in a curved line or in an act of creativity.

This is a close up of The Arc, a building I posted recently, and added to the first comment here.
This building was designed by Walter Franci, but I really liked the quote by Brazilian architect, Oscar Niemeyer.

There is so much division in this world. So what is really the path of healing? It can begin in this moment, by embracing the life that's here.

When it all boils down, it's about embracing each others' stories and maybe even finding that synergy to collaborate for the common good.

There are so many things to talk about between black people, Hispanic people, white people, gay people, men, women, it's all based on fear. We all have fears, this thing that stops us from embracing as we are one. We are never going to be one. People are messed up, but humor lets us see how ignorant we can be.

Aceptando la luz
La primera regla en la fotografía de la Vía Láctea es, obviamente, alejarse de las zonas con luz artificial, así que intentar una VL sobre mi pueblo, Valencia de Alcántara, fue un poco locura, esto es lo que salió.
The first rule of Milky Way pictures is, obviously, step away for light "Polluted" areas, so try a MW over my town, Valencia de Alcantara, was a bit crazy, this is what i got:
