This very impressive fountain is by Giles Rayner, whose work I hadn’t seen before. The term ‘water feature’ seems a bit inadequate for this major structure which is about ten feet high. It’s made from copper, stainless steel and a steel core, with water invisibly piped up to the top and then falling in a natural cascade down the spiral.
It’s 7:45 p.m. on April 21, 2025, as BNSF’s Laurel to Bozeman turn scurries through Elton, Montana, with the late evening sun highlighting some taller peaks in the Absaroka Mountains in the background. I miss Montana Rail Link blue power on this train, but there’s not much you can do about it.
