It's mating season in Florida, and there's a lot to be excited about.

Sometimes when critters are as close as this guy was I wish I was shooting a 100 - 400 zoom rather than the 6, and I had to make some quick decisions about what to include and what to leave out.

In this case I went for the orange legs and wild hairdo.

I guess I put the plug-in ;-)

The famous Death Valley mud cracks, don't make it easy to find the perfect composition. There are literally thousands of mud tiles all over but I was very picky in finding the right set of mud tiles that compliments my planned image for this location.

Since I was imaging a milky way pano shot here, I knew I wanted my foreground to mirror the ark of the milky way. The arching curve wasn't the only detail I was looking for, in addition I was looking for complimenting lines that balanced the frame After many mud tiles, curves and lines. I landed on this spot that I think works perfectly with leading lines and sweeping curves. The sweeping curve going through the frame sort of reminds me of a whip. Along with the night sky the whip sort of looks like it is firing some electric sparkles into the sky.

This is a single wide angle shot taken during blue hour blended with a panorama of the milky way.

I don't usually shoot night photography, but since some of the areas I visited on my trip recently are pretty vibrant at night, I tried my hand and so far I'm quite pleased with the results. I did shoot some three exposure with AEB and some shutter priority shots with moving cars and people, however this particular image was just taken as a single image on aperture priority. Usually I process in Photomatix first, but here I processed the RAW image in Photoshop first, then applied denoising and sharpening to the high ISO image in Topaz DeNoise before opening it up in Photomatix for tonemapping.
