One of the keys to shooting Epic Landscape Photography is exalting the photograph's soul via golden ratio compositions, thusly wedding the photographic art to the divine proportion by which life itself was designed and exalted.

Greetings flickr friends! I am working on several books on "epic photography," and I recently finished a related one titled: The Golden Number Ratio Principle: Why the Fibonacci Numbers Exalt Beauty and How to Create PHI Compositions in Art, Design, & Photography: An Artistic and Scientific Introduction to the Golden Mean . Message me on facebook for a free review copy!

www.facebook.com/goldennumberratio/

The Golden Ratio also informs the design of the golden revolver on all the swimsuits and lingerie, as well as the 45surf logo!

The Golden Number Ratio Principle: Dr. E’s Golden Ratio Principle: The golden ratio exalts beauty because the number is a characteristic of the mathematically and physically most efficient manners of growth and distribution, on both evolutionary and purely physical levels. The golden ratio ensures that the proportions and structure of that which came before provide the proportions and structure of that which comes after. Robust, ordered growth is naturally associated with health and beauty, and thus we evolved to perceive the golden ratio harmonies as inherently beautiful, as we saw and felt their presence in all vital growth and life—in the salient features and proportions of humans and nature alike, from the distribution of our facial features and bones to the arrangements of petals, leaves, and sunflowers seeds. As ratios between Fibonacci Numbers offer the closest whole-number approximations to the golden ratio, and as seeds, cells, leaves, bones, and other physical entities appear in whole numbers, the Fibonacci Numbers oft appear in nature’s elements as “growth’s numbers.” From the dawn of time, humanity sought to salute their gods in art and temples exalting the same proportion by which all their vital sustenance and they themselves had been created—the golden ratio.

Ansel Adams is not only my favorite photographer, but he is one of the greatest photographers and artists of all time. And just like great artists including Michelangelo, Monet, Degas, Renoir, Leonardo da Vinci, Vermeer, Rembrandt, Botticelli, and Picasso, Ansel used the golden ratio and divine proportions in his epic art.

Not so long ago I discovered golden regions in many of his famous public domain his 8x10 aspect ratio photographs. I call these golden harmony regions "regions of golden action" or "ROGA"S, as seen here:

www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.1812448512351066.107374...

And too, I created some videos highlighting Ansel's use of the golden harmonies. Enjoy!

A camel is an even-toed ungulate within the genus Camelus, bearing distinctive fatty deposits known as "humps" on its back. The two surviving species of camel are the dromedary, or one-humped camel (C. dromedarius), which inhabits the Middle East and the Horn of Africa; and the Bactrian, or two-humped camel (C. bactrianus), which inhabits Central Asia. Both species have been domesticated; they provide milk, meat, hair for textiles or goods such as felted pouches, and are working animals with tasks ranging from human transport to bearing loads.

The term camel is derived via Latin and Greek (camelus and κάμηλος kamēlos respectively) from Hebrew or Phoeniciangāmāl.

"Camel" is also used more broadly to describe any of the six camel-like mammals in the family Camelidae: the two true camels and the four New World camelids: the llama, alpaca, guanaco, and vicuña of South America.

Biology

The average life expectancy of a camel is 40 to 50 years.A full-grown adult camel stands 1.85 m (6 ft 1 in) at the shoulder and 2.15 m (7 ft 1 in) at the hump. Camels can run at up to 65 km/h (40 mph) in short bursts and sustain speeds of up to 40 km/h (25 mph). Bactrian camels weigh 300 to 1,000 kg (660 to 2,200 lb) and dromedaries 300 to 600 kg (660 to 1,320 lb).

The male dromedary camel has in its throat an organ called a dulla, a large, inflatable sac he extrudes from his mouth when in rut to assert dominance and attract females. It resembles a long, swollen, pink tongue hanging out of the side of its mouth.[ Camels mate by having both male and female sitting on the ground, with the male mounting from behind. The male usually ejaculates three or four times within a single mating session. Camelids are the only ungulates to mate in a sitting position.

Ecological and behavioral adaptations

Camels do not directly store water in their humps as was once commonly believed. The humps are actually reservoirs of fatty tissue: concentrating body fat in their humps minimizes the insulating effect fat would have if distributed over the rest of their bodies, helping camels survive in hot climates. When this tissue is metabolized, it yields more than one gram of water for every gram of fat processed. This fat metabolization, while releasing energy, causes water to evaporate from the lungs during respiration (as oxygen is required for the metabolic process): overall, there is a net decrease in water.

Camels have a series of physiological adaptations that allow them to withstand long periods of time without any external source of water. Unlike other mammals, their red blood cells are oval rather than circular in shape. This facilitates the flow of red blood cells during dehydration and makes them better at withstanding high osmotic variation without rupturing when drinking large amounts of water: a 600 kg (1,300 lb) camel can drink 200 L (53 US gal) of water in three minutes.

Camels are able to withstand changes in body temperature and water consumption that would kill most other animals. Their temperature ranges from 34 °C (93 °F) at dawn and steadily increases to 40 °C (104 °F) by sunset, before they cool off at night again.] Maintaining the brain temperature within certain limits is critical for animals; to assist this, camels have a rete mirabile, a complex of arteries and veins lying very close to each other which utilizes countercurrent blood flow to cool blood flowing to the brain. Camels rarely sweat, even when ambient temperatures reach 49 °C (120 °F). Any sweat that does occur evaporates at the skin level rather than at the surface of their coat; the heat of vaporization therefore comes from body heat rather than ambient heat. Camels can withstand losing 25% of their body weight to sweating, whereas most other mammals can withstand only about 12–14% dehydration before cardiac failure results from circulatory disturbance.

When the camel exhales, water vapor becomes trapped in their nostrils and is reabsorbed into the body as a means to conserve water.Camels eating green herbage can ingest sufficient moisture in milder conditions to maintain their bodies' hydrated state without the need for drinking.

Camels' immune system differs from those of other mammals. Normally, the Y-shaped antibody molecules consist of two heavy (or long) chains along the length of the Y, and two light (or short) chains at each tip of the Y. Camels, in addition to these, also have antibodies made of only two heavy chains, a trait that makes them smaller and more durable. These "heavy-chain-only" antibodies, discovered in 1993, are thought to have developed 50 million years ago, after camelids split from ruminants and pigs. The kidneys and intestines of a camel are very efficient at reabsorbing water. Camel urine comes out as a thick syrup, and camel feces are so dry that they do not require drying when the Bedouins use them to fuel fires.

My entry into the Guilds of Historica Book II Challenge III Category B - Deceiving Elves

Phew! I can't believe I finished it in time! Thanks to the extension of the deadline and a canceled family gathering, I had enough time to finish my second entry into the GoH Challenge. Once again I experimented in one of Grant Davis's techniques that he created in his creation "Undermining." (If you have not checked out Grant's creation yet, what are you waiting for!? Go give it a look! ;) ) Tons of fun to build, making all the little sections of rock pieces fit together was so much fun (although very delicate)!

The details on the top were also fun to add, I finally got to use my wargs! :D Even though wars in LOTR are evil, I always though they were kinda cool, so if you could tame them...they could be quite lethal and well worth the effort. ;)

All in all, a decent build, there are a few more things I would have liked to try if I had more time, but deadlines are deadlines. ;)

Thanks for viewing, and enjoy!

One of Warren's most defining downtown building is the flat-iron National City Bank Building, which sits on the point dividing Second and Pennsylvania Avenues. Elaborately carved Hummelstown brownstone and a clock tower topped by a dragon weather vane are a few of the defining architectural details on this 1891 building, which replaced a block destroyed by fire in 1889. Although fires necessitated the replacement of many downtown buildings, other buildings were replaced when businessmen and merchants sought additional space or more modern facilities in order to do business more efficiently or attract customers. Facade and signage alterations were commonly made to 'update' buildings in downtown Warren, usually only on the first floor, which would be most visible to foot traffic.

Sweetwater Precision Weapons introduces a revolution,

a perfect fusion between Russian simplicity and American modularity,

The Sweetwater Precision Weapons “Terrain” ACR AK “Yugo” R12.

One of SPW’s designers spent many weeks labouring over his design, after being tasked to create a rifle combining the firepower and simplicity of the Russian AK-47 with the modularity of a rifle like the ACR. When he finished the designs, he presented it to the manufacturers.

It included:

•A smooth-finished wooden pistol grip

•New trigger system

•Improved durability bolt

•Rail attachable AK Rear Sight

•Structural improvements to the receiver

•New lightweight Mag -release catch

•Petite AK-style Fire Selector

•Cooling vents above bolt

•Smooth sliding charging handle

•4-sided rail system

•25% Lighter weight stock w/ Buckle and Sash

•Hexagonal Noveske-style Flash Hider

•More efficient Gas-Block

•Easy grip polymer AK magazine

•Custom Order Limited Edition Holographic Sight

When the gun rolled off the production line, and was held for the first time, the designer knew it was his best work to date.

Andrew Barclay "Efficient" making it look easy. 9 April 2000.

To find a photograph to showcase the life (it is ok to say human interest, I guess ) at Chang La in Ladakh is kind of difficult. Most passengers enroute to Pangong Tso halt briefly at the top of the pass and pose in front of the bright markers showcasing the height of the pass and the fact that it is the world's 2nd highest motorable one at that.

A pity I missed being the subject of that horrendous "I have been there" photograph.

We are digressing. On the way back to Leh from the deeply serene and cold Pangong Tso lake, one must climb up the northern face of the mountain chain to reach the Chang La.

On the top there is that obligatory military temple, the road and height markers and tinned hutted rooms in green with the ever efficient Army people manning them to offer tea and medical aid to anyone who stops there. I was fortunate, I stopped over and was amazed to be offered cashews, almonds and biscuits with piping hot tea. I wonder if all passengers get that dry fruity treatment at Chang La. I guess not.

While there, I espied this tall gentleman bent almost double under the weight of the full gunny sack on his back. While he walked briskly in the rarifed air with that load, I was having trouble putting four steps in one straight line without faltering.

I attracted his attention and made him stop in his progress and this was shot as he looked up in my direction to find out which lunatic was shouting at him and why. Then the thick scarf / muffler came off the face with the left hand and the biggest beaming bountiful smile passed his visage.

You wonder how he can smile with that big one while you yourself can barely manage to work your face muscles into a scowl. One wonders how is it possible to carry such a huge load at that altitude. Ponder not too much on that mystery of superhuman feat, just enjoy. The answer to that my brother is ... It aint Heavy, it is just snow and ice.

The gentleman owns 3 donkeys and they are used daily for collecting fresh snow and ice from the mountainside and brought to this military detatchment for water supply. The donkeys for working their ass off at 17500 feet get paid Rs 13k per month/per donkey and the owner also gets paid the same amount but he is no ass. He surely is laughing all the way to the bank.

( That said, the sack full of snow and ice is not light at all. It would be beyond me to lift it off the ground, forget about merrily whistling and striding away at 17500 feet)

The represents the kind of views many of my vintage National Geographic magazines from the 1915 to 1920 era would proudly portray as the modern and efficient "Future Of Industry". By the mid 1970s, they looked awfully tired and dated.

I remember reading a book about Jersey City written in the 1930s describing it as a industrial city "without trees". Of course... who needed trees and the niceties of life when you've got countless brick warehouses, hundreds of factories and endless railroads which sliced through every neighborhood? It was all about business, pure business.

As I take the first few steps into the throne room, my mind races with possibilities. How could he have a son and hide it from me so efficiently? Mind this isn’t the first time he’s concealed information from me. During the entirety of the Clone War, the Jedi desperately hunted for the supposed Sith Lord that was pulling our strings. Little did we realise, that what helped my Master to conceal himself, was the fact that we kept him close. Thus everytime we showed our hand in our hunt for the Sith Lord, he was aware of it was, and was able to plan a counter before we could piece things together. Maybe that’s why he dispatched me to Bodrin in the first place. To get me off Coruscant whilst he met with his son.

But then again, there are no other members of the Empire better suited for combatting the survivors of Order 66. Not to mention that with his hands tied by the Senate, my master is unable to deploy any official Imperial units due to having surrendered his executive orders. Unofficially he has his squad of Imperial comandos ‘The Renegades’ as Tarkin likes to call them. Members of the Imperial military that can go where the prying eyes of the Senate will not, but even their talents pale in comparison to the power of the forcé. So it’s logical to assume that because of those reasons, I was dispatched. But I cannot help but doubt the Emperor.

Had he not desired the boy’s identity to be kept a secret, why conceal him from me? Not to mention that Tarkin is evidently also a part of this given how he escorted the boy to the throne room the first time I laid eyes upon him. I have far too many questions and not enough answers.

In order to be certain that my own downfall isn’t being orchestrated by the Emperor and his allies, I must ascertain this boy’s potential, and what my master knows about him. For if this boy is who he claims to be, his potential in the forcé will soon result in me being thrown aside just like my predecessors. That is a fate I will not allow.

Emperor: Lord Vader?

Vader: The pirates have been dealt with, my master.

Emperor: Good. Did they provide you with a challenge.

Before I respond, I remove the young Padawan’s hilt from the back of my belt and throw it to the ground in front of his office.

Vader: No.

Instantly, my master reaches out the force and calls the hilt to his hands. He takes a few moments to inspect it, taking note to inspect whether it’s crystal is still in place.

Emperor: Once more you continue to demonstrate I made the correct choice on Mustufar that day, my apprentice. What of the rest of her crew?

Vader: They escaped.

Emperor: And the contents of the facility?

Vader: Secured. Mostly.

Emperor: How unfortunate.

Vader: Unfortunate, Master?

Emperor: That equipment would have served me better had it found its way out of Imperial control. Without a credible cause, the majority of the Senate has vowed to block every motion put forward to grant me authoritative military control. Thanks to their stubbornness, I may as well be supreme chancellor again with how little I can do without approval.

Vader: Then perhaps we should send a message.

Emperor: You think I haven’t already considered such an idea? No, they are already suspicious of me from the moment I declared the New Order Proclamation. Given how the Galaxy still hasn’t fully settled following the end of the Clone War, I still need the Senate in place. If only to calm those who would dare consider rebellion.

Vader: Even if those voices come from the senators themselves?

Emperor: That’s the problema with a new era of peace. A member of the senate goes missing, and we have more sufficient resources to employ an independent. Whereas, in the middle of the Clone War. That was a matter for the military. Certainly made it easier to cover things up when they were needed. Part of me wishes I’d silenced Organa during the War.

Vader: He has a daughter, perhaps she can be leveraged.

Emperor: Endangering his daughter is out of the question.

An unusual response from my master. Often when he rules out one of my suggestion there’s an ever present tone of arrogance in his voice, a tone which he never exhibited in front of me prior to Mustufar. I still to this day cannot discern if the tone is a sign of disgust at me for my failure at Mustufar, or whether his calm caring composure was simply a deception. Currently, I favour both possibilities. But in that brief response, my master appeared humble. Evidently this boy has had some effect on him, lending legitimacy to the claims of heritage.

Vader: Why?

Emperor: The force is strong with her. In time, she may become a valuable asset. An agent, a spy.

Vader: An apprentice.

There’s a brief pause as my master takes a momento before a smirk appears on his face.

Emperor: That matter is dependent upon your successes Lord Vader.

An interesting reveal of sorts. Not of his willingness to replace me. My master made it clear long before I surrendered myself to his teachings that I was replaceable. I witnessed it first hand with how quick he was to disavow Maul after his return, and how willing he was to dispose of Dooku when he finally believed I was ready to replace the former Lord Tyrannus.

The more interesting revelation of sorts is that he believes Organa’s daughter could be trained in the force. From that alone there is doubt as to the boy’s claims. No child of the Emperor’s would be weak in the force. But then why would my master humour him with a meeting if there wasn’t an element of truth to his claims?

Vader: I will not fail you, master.

Emperor: That remains to be seen, apprentice.

There’s a momentary pause where it appears that my master considers telling me something. But he quickly has a change of heart and sides against it.

Emperor: You have done well. I have matters to attend to regarding the Senate’s proposed redistribution of the military expansion budget, but tomorrow we shall continue your training. I think it’s time you learnt the ways of Sith alchemy.

Vader: Yes. My master.

Emperor: Now go, Lord Vader. You’ve earned your rest. I’ll have Hassan bring the relevant holocrons to you.

Vader: Thank you. My master.

With that, I bow and exit the throne room. As the door opens I find a visibly angry Hassan who is pleased than amused that Tarkin allowed me to speak with the Emperor. His arrogance will be his undoing one day. I just hope I manage to be the cause when it finally comes. But despite how pleased my master maybe, my suspicions over this boy remain. There is not enough evidence to clearly confirm or deny his claims of his heritage, and I must know. Both my sake, and for that the security of the Empire.

There is no other choice. In order to know the truth, I must journey to where I swore I’d never return.

One of the keys to shooting Epic Landscape Photgraphy is exalting the photograph's soul via golden ratio compositions, thusly wedding the art to the divine proportion by which life itself was designed and exalted.

And too, I created some videos highlighting Ansel's use of the golden harmonies. Enjoy!
