The legend Eddie Shaw and son at Chicago Blues Fest

My name is Eddie Malloy. They call me "the razor" because I prefer a close shave on my cheeks. I'm a Private Dick in Somewhereville. Somewhereville's not the best city in the world, and it's also not the worst. By day the city wears a thin veil of respectability-- shopkeepers sweeping stoops, kids playing with their phones on the corners, and clerks sweating under fluorescent lights. The cops work harder than they should have to and care less than they should want to. Somewhereville’s law isn't about justice; it's about balance—keeping just enough order to keep the gamblers gambling, the drinkers drinking, the hustlers hustling and the citizens quiet. My job isn't finding the truth—it's figuring out whose truth matters most. My goal is to keep my lights on and the whiskey flowing.

No Maritimes today.

Those of you that know me well will have been following the progress of my cat Eddie. Sadly his condition is no better and a scan earlier today revealed several tumors in his liver. The kindest thing now is to let him go and it breaks my heart! I shall be going to the vets later to say goodbye to him for the last time.

Ed you have been the best cat anyone could wish for, I wish you well on your next journey buddy and will miss you more than you can know.

Sorry if I miss some of your images, I can't imagine I will be back online until at least tomorrow.

No invites for this image please.

Eddie was sitting at the southwest corner of Washington and Wabash. Currently he's staying at Pacific Garden Mission. He had an issue with his former landlord and he ended up losing all his belongings. He's going to be getting his veteran's benefits tomorrow, which will help him finally be in a place to find housing. He spoke of his grandkids and how much he enjoys seeing them. What he really needs right now is a bus pass. His advice? "Be yourself...and stay away from the bad stuff. There's a lot of temptation out there."

This is the beginning of a series on Rochester Homeless population. I will be following those who now have a flat thanks to the housing first project and see the different places they have lived on the streets.

Eddie is VERY pleased with tonight's treat! I wonder if it reminds him of

his baby days...

I have to tell all of you Eddie fans about last night. It had been raining off and on all day and all the raccoons were showing up wet, muddy, and kind of bedraggled looking. When there was a break in the rain, our Eddie arrived looking clean, fluffy, and dry as ever. I have no idea how he manages it!

I met Eddie for the first time today. He was out scavenging with Dwight, and they stopped by to see if I could spare a few necessities. Luckily, they left with more than they bargained for. Plenty of food, and I had just gotten a generous donation and had clothes to spare.

And to anyone who says that the people I meet and try to help on the street are just lazy or should "get a job", take a look at Eddie's hands and face. I guarantee you don't work as hard as he does.

Eddie (not his real name) is a professional musician. The City Market hired him as a resident busker, providing music and entertainment to the Market's customers. Eddie can render a blues riff and song right on the spot to fit the situation. He's great with the children. Eddie is an all-around great guy!
