This was taken on spring break 2010 in the Bahamas on the Norwegian Dawn cruise. We got a chance to swim with the stingrays and take pictures beneath the surface with an underwater camera.

Anemone canadensis (Canada anemone, round-headed anemone, meadow anemone, crowfoot) is a herbaceous perennial native to moist meadows, thickets, stream banks, and lake shores in North America, spreading rapidly by underground rhizomes, valued for its white flowers.

In former times it was used medically by North American Indigenous peoples as an astringent and as a styptic for wounds, sores, nosebleeds, and as an eyewash. The root was respected by Plains tribes and used for many ailments. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anemone_canadensis

The ‘Ecosystem-based Adaptation South’ project seeks to help the Seychelles, Nepal and Mauritania to adapt to climate change, in part by restoring natural habitats across all types of ecosystems. In the Seychelles, on-the-ground ecological restoration will rehabilitate 29 hectares of mangrove and wetland forests, thus providing natural flood barriers. Students in one of my classrooms were studying water cycles so we built ecosystems in a bottle. The top was soil from the Long Island Sound and vegetation. The bottom was Long Island Sound water and algae. The systems were connected by a wick. Students polluted the top of the ecosystem and observed what happened to the water and algae below.

At Reid Park Zoo

Two grizzly bears, male “Ronan” and female “Finley,” arrived in Tucson in July of 2013 from the Flathead Indian Reservation in Montana. The orphaned 18-month-old bears had been engaging in problem behaviors in a residential area, including breaking into chicken coops and livestock feed storage areas.

The bears had already been relocated once, so this time they were given a new, safe home at Reid Park Zoo. The relocation was a collaborative effort between Reid Park Zoo, The US Fish and Wildlife Service, Montana Department of Fish, Wildlife, and Parks, and the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes

Grizzly bear Listing Status: Threatened..

In the early 1800s, an estimated 50,000 grizzly bears roamed across the western United States from the Great Plains to the Pacific coast. Today, their populations in the lower 48 states are limited to the Northern Cascades (Washington), Northern Rockies, and Greater Yellowstone Ecosystems.
