There are many linkages between categories of ecosystem services and components of human well-being. They includes indications of the extent to which it is possible for socioeconomic factors to mediate the linkage. For example, if it is possible to purchase a substitute for a degraded ecosystem service, then there is a high potential for mediation.

Low-lying Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge, on Maryland's Eastern Shore, is among the areas of Maryland and the U.S. east coast most threatened by rising sea level. Coastal flooding is occurring more and more often in these areas, bringing brackish water further inland and stressing the native vegetation in these marshes. Scientists are studying to what extent marshes like these can survive and persist by migrating inland.

In each case, the net benefits from the more sustainably managed ecosystem are greater than those from the converted ecosystem, even though the private (market) benefits would be greater from the converted ecosystem.

This terrestrial ecosystem consists of numerous trees, flowers, birds and animals. I took this picture in my neighborhood (The Pointe). The next image will explain how the two images I took are related to each other.

The difference between abiotic components in a terrestrial ecosystem and a aquatic ecosystem is that the aquatic ecosystem has a chemistry like factor that deals with pH which determines life for some underwater plants and animals; terrestrial has a chemistry factor but its not as detrimental. Plants and animals could die if the environment changed chemically but I think it would be more of a man made cause behind it; it would be a faster reaction for the aquatic ecosystem.

We spent two hours here at a small stop along the south coast of Dingle, east of Slea Head. What an amazing spot! It pays to scramble around the cliff edges... though it is a long way down!

Enfield Glen and Creek are very typical of the area – a mix of seemingly never-ending limestone and shale layers. Walking up the gorge trail towards the west end of the park gives you expansive views of the sheer rock cliffs rising over 100 ft above you, along with views of several miles down into the lower reaches of the park. nyfalls.com/waterfalls/robert-treman-state-park/
