A great guy and musician, playing a gig at the ECMA's in Sydney.

The discs from Mitsubishi, Verbatim, Taiyo Yuden, Delkin and MAM-A all failed to read, none of the data was recoverable. However, the Millenniata discs did not suffer any damage due to the exposure cycle. There was no data degradation, every disc performed within the ECMA PI8 Max limit of 280.

kim & i wandered there not really knowing where to go. we met up with shane & pat who were just coming from there. shane (highly) suggested i go to the delegates thing by "borrowing" someones pass. we paid $10 to get into night sounds, so we were a bit reluctant to make the walk all the way back.

it was a good time. we met up with jamie o'brien & the rest of the sidewalks,

friday morning we went for a walk for breakfast. well, i guess it was more "afternoon" than "morning". mere technicalities!

we stumbled upon kay's kozy korner. purely judging from the outside, i figured it would either be a gem of a find like the ardmore tea room in halifax, or disgusting & filthy like maid marions in charlottetown.

the 3 k's in the name should have been a bigger tip off.

the coffee was terrible, and the food was "meh". nothing to write home about (um, even though i did...). minus eleventy billion for the incredibly stupid spelling in the name (seriously. kkk?). the wonderfully nice server makes me not entirely hate the place, though. she was very friendly!

i think the poor breakfast sort of set the tone for the rest of the day, coupled with the really cold & strong wind. i was somewhat cranky, and ended up with a headache later that evening.

Fredericton is fun, I miss living there.

dutch robinson was there. kim interviewed him awhile ago, so they got to talking.

sarah slean is such a beautiful person. she's the main reason i went to halifax. she was representing SOCAN or something. i'm not really sure how it works.

her piano was tuned wrong, and was quite amusing the debacle to fix it. but she's awesome at everything and got it fixed.

there's one other artist, amelia curran. i wasn't able to photograph her though, she was too far away and i had mark braggs mic stand in my way.

however, i'm friendly. just ask if you want something. don't just take.

Look at all the beer she drank!

Say Fire and Sea Caves opened up for the Diamond Minds tonight down at Headquarters, it was a good show. The Diamond Minds are gone on the road for a few months now and doing some showcasing for the ECMAs. This was their last St. John's show until August, so I felt I should go.

Though I felt wrong going down there tonight since it entailed me missing the 3rd period (and resulting overtime period) of the habs game. I don't think I missed a habs game this season besides the end of this one. The habs lost in overtime against the Ottawa Senators, but it doesn't really matter since the habs are already guaranteed a playoff spot.

As usual the habs fans were louder than the Senators fans in Ottawa, Mike Cammalleri tied the game with 10 seconds left in the 3rd period and the stadium erupted with cheers even though it was not technically a home game for the habs in Ottawa. The superstitious part of me wonders if the outcome of the game would have been different if I had stayed home to watch it.

sometimes i walk fast. possibly out of a fear of being left behind? (there's NO reason for me to feel that in sydney or anything! *coughECMA2009cough*)

or because i'm typically the slowest one & over compensate sometimes?

so, some time a week or so ago, i wandered around town with my friend kim. we discussed life and things, and i mentioned the ecma's. i lamented missing them last year in new brunswick, and wished for the opportunity to go this year.

problem is, the location THIS time around is corner brook.

yes. newfoundland.

not that far, in perspective, but still not that easy to get to.

well. all i had to say was newfoundland, and kim was all over us going. it took about 2 seconds for me to be convinced.

we couldn't afford to stay in a hotel, so we tried a bunch of couch surfers. everyone was either full, or traveling themselves.

we figured for transportation, we'd take the ecma "fest" bus. it was about $250 both ways, ferry included for one person. not too bad when compared to flying, which was over $500 for one person, and the trip back saw you flying to toronto with a lay over, then halifax, then finally p.e.i.

but we still didn't have a place to stay!

monday night, everything fell into place. my friend, omar, came through for us out of the blue. he messaged me mentioning his mother lives in corner brook, and that she is quite friendly. as soon as we got word that she would allow kim & i to disrupt her life for 4 or 5 days, we bought our bus ticket.

weds afternoon, we were on our way.

Left to right: Jaehoo Lee (Korea), Mary McRae (OASIS), Chris Rae (Ecma), Paul Cotton (Canada), John Phillips (UK), Francis Cave (UK), Netherlands HoD.

I'm finally recovering from the ECMAs last week. Although, I do find myself dozing off a little at work. Maybe it's the daylight savings time.

This a photo of Ria Mae, I kinda wanted to capture the beauty & essence of her, even though she's a comedic artist who likes to write songs about break-ups.

There's nothing that stands out as a facial expression, but I do love the lightning, and the haze that covers her guitar.
