My right pannier holds the battery, wiring, fuses, cutoff switch, charger plug, and BMS board. Enclosed in a simple coroplast housing. This is the temporary solution until I mount it in the frame, but it's so stealthy and unobtrusive that I'm tempted to keep it here.
I couldn't wait to build the integrated battery box, so I mounted everything in a coroplast box in one of the panniers, and did my first full commute today.
Smooth sailing! The 700x60 Big Apples just float over bumps, and the steering is very stable. Not the least bit scary at 30mph. Lots of angular momentum in these wheels though, so countersteering is required to dodge potholes.
Kept it between 600W and 950W for the shakedown run. Used 12AH (60%) of battery capacity on the way home, over 22 miles in 57 minutes, with a headwind. My best time on my regular bike is 1:30. I was also able to stay on the road instead of some twisty bike path sections, and save maybe one mile. And I skipped the overpass stoplight on Elliot, and took the roadway on the Ballard bridge. No drama on the grating.
I think I'll boost it up to a consistent 900W tomorrow and see how it goes!
