All that remains of the first Swanage Pier, which was 750 feet long, and built between 1859 and 1860 for use primarily by the local stone quarrying industry. It included a tramway which ran the length of the pier and some way along the seafront. The old tracks can be seen to this day, inset into the seafront walkways.

Couleuvre à collier Helvétique (Natrix helvetica)
Nous connaissons en Suisse deux espèces de couleuvre à collier, ces deux formes étant considérées comme des espèces différentes seulement depuis 2017. L'espèce Natrix helvetica (Couleuvre à collier helvétique) est présente dans la majorité de la Suisse à l'exception du nord-est, tandis que l'espèce Natrix natrix (Couleuvre à collier nordique) occupe seulement une région au nord-est d'une ligne entre la ville de Zurich et le lac de Constance.
Comme tous les serpents inoffensifs de Suisse, la couleuvre à collier helvétique possède une pupille ronde. La tête ne se détache que peu du tronc et a le dessus recouvert de grandes écailles. La couleur de fond varie du gris clair au noir. Les signes les plus caractéristiques aux couleuvres à collier sont les taches - le plus souvent de couleur jaune - en forme de croissant à l'arrière de la tête, marques renforcées par un second croissant de couleur noire. Ce collier, qui a donné son nom à l'espèce, est parfois peu marqué ou encore absent dans certains cas, cela surtout chez les formes mélaniques. L'espèce N. helvetica se différencie de N. natrix par la présence de dessins sous forme de barres noirâtres sur les flancs, alors que ces bandes sont plus fines, voire absentes chez N. natrix. La tache noire du collier est aussi généralement plus marquée chez N. helvetica que chez N. natrix.
Tandis que les mâles n'atteignent que rarement 1 mètre de longueur, les femelles peuvent mesurer jusqu'à 140 cm, alors que N. natrix est un peu plus petite.

It's been a while since I've uploaded anything but images for Macro Mondays, and since I also didn't really have time for taking my photo for this Monday's "Currency" MM theme, this is my substitute Monday upload: an image that I've taken of the small, but very "pretty in flashy pink" staircase at the Futurium that leads up to the so called "Skywalk", a panorama walk on the Futurium's roof that offers a very nice view across Berlin's government district (please see the first comment). I've taken this image with the tiny Laowa C-Dreamer 7.5 mm ultra wide-angle lens that isn't quite as wide as the fabulous M.Zuiko 7-14mm, but is definitely capable of much, much nicer aperture stars.
"Kaleidoscoped" to bring out the fun pareidolia that is apparently hidden in that staircase – and seriously, have you ever seen such charmingly "angry" stairs? It would explain the pink "complexion", though ;)

One of many staircases at the Olympic Stadium in Berlin that lead inside the stadium and to the galleries, and an example of the original 1936 architecture. Photographed with the Ricoh GRIII.
The final result is kind of my own interpretation and combination of two of the quite many in-camera Jpg film presets: "Bleach Bypass" and the rather popular "High Contrast BW". While both presets had yielded nice, interesting Jpgs – Bleach Bypass did a great job with the facade's (which is made of Franconian Muschelkalk / shelly limestone) texture and patterns, while High Contrast BW created a very dramatic, dark and moody image –, I still had not been 100 percent happy with either: I didn't like the way the camera had processed the colours in the Bleach Bypass mode, and the High Contrast BW mode had smudged the fine details quite considerably. But since I luckily had set the camera to record both Jpg and Raw I was able to process the Raw file so that it now has the drama and moodiness of the High Contrast BW, and also the details of Bleach Bypass.
By now I've long returned to shooting Raw only with the Ricoh; it saves battery life (the tiny GRIII has an equally tiny and therefore not particularly long-lasting battery), and if I wish I can still apply one of the in-camera film presets to the Raw file later. But actually I prefer to do my own processing :)
Eine der vielen Treppen des Berliner Olympiastadions, die ins Stadion hinein- und zu den Rängen führen.
Fotografiert mit der Ricoh GRIII und als Bearbeitung meine Interpretation / Kombination zweier Kamera-Jpg-Voreinstellungen ("Bleach Bypass"- und "Hochkontrast S/W"-Bildsteuerung). Beide von der Kamera automatisch bearbeiteten JPgs "hatten was", gefielen mir letztlich aber nicht zu 100 Prozent. Bei "Bleach Bypass" hatte die Kamera die Textur und Musterung des fränkischen Muschelkalks sehr fein und schön herausgearbeitet, dafür aber gefielen mir die Farben nicht so gut; Hochkontrast S/W hingegen hatte zwar ein wunderbar dramatisches, düsteres Endergebnis erzeugt, dafür aber die Texturen deutlich vernachlässigt. Da war es nur gut, dass ich die Bilder sowohl als Jpg als auch als Raw aufgezeichnet hatte und das Foto noch einmal von Grund auf neu entwickeln konnte: mit dem Drama von Hochkontrast S/W und den Details von Bleach Bypass.
Mittlerweile bin ich bei der GRIII längst wieder dazu übergegangen, nur Raw zu fotografieren. Das schont den recht schwachen Akku – und eigentlich bearbeite ich meine Fotos sowieso lieber selbst. Und wenn ich mag, kann ich nachträglich in der Kamera immer noch eins der vielen Film-Presets auf das Raw anwenden.

The Grand Pier is a pleasure pier in Weston-super-Mare, North Somerset, situated on the Bristol Channel approximately 18 miles (29 km) southwest of Bristol. It opened in 1904 and has been Listed Grade II since 1983. It is 366 metres (1,201 ft) long.
The pier's pavilion has been destroyed by fire on two occasions, in 1930 and 2008. It is one of two major piers in the town, along with Birnbeck Pier, which closed in 1994 and stands derelict.

Der Wächter der Rieselfelder.
Diese Assoziation kam mir in den Sinn, als ich Freitag diesen wunderbaren Storch beobachtete.
Ich hatte rechtzeitig die Beobachtungshütte im Schilff bezogen; der Himmel war noch bedeckt.
Der Storch stand eine geschlagene Stunde regungslos im Wasser - an einer eher ungünstigen Position.
Ich dachte mir, möge er doch zwei Meter weiter schreiten und eine Position zwischen den Baumstümpfen einnehmen.
Als dann die Sonne unterging, riss für einen kurzen Augenblick die Wolkendecke auf und tauchte das Schliff und den Weiher in ein magisches, winterlich warmes Licht - der Storch tat einige Schritte und stand plötzlich in perfekter Position.
Ich musste nur noch den Auslöser betätigen.

A subway train of class DT5 leaves Landungsbrücken station at Hamburg. The building in background is the station building of St. Pauli Piers (Landungsbrücken), which was once for decades the starting point for overseas steamers. Now it serves only local ferry boats, tourist boats. The piers were built in early 20th century, at the same time as the subway circle line (in foreground). It's easy to find similarities in architecture of the bridge and the building.
