This sentinel was up and at it early on a post performing his duties watching for danger. The lanes and roads are rife with these birds in the early hours of Okanagan mornings.

HMM for everyone - FMM para cada uno !

I was totally excited when I saw the fog and the sun in the morning. I had planned for this. I got ready for work, skipped breakfast and went to out. The forest is on my way to my working place. I was hoping to find a path leading into the mist and into the sun. As you see I did not succeed because of the rapidly fading mist. I am happy anyway - what a start of the day.

……I walked up & down taking a few shots but she refused to look at me! Far more interesting things going on the Quarry (park) behind me - not that we could see anything!!! BTW, she lives in a nice house with fine views over the Quarry & the River (see 1st comment box), a quick grab shot on my phone for HFF - have a good one. Alan:-)…….

When we exited a convenience store in a small Wyoming town we noticed these two tough guys in the car next to ours. They seemed to be taking their guard duty pretty seriously. I couldn't resist grabbing my camera for a quick snap.

Not my typical nature/wildlife shot but it makes me laugh every time I see it so I thought I'd share.

A plain, chunky bird with a “big mouth.” Found in foothill rainforest of western Ecuador and western Colombia. It’s mostly olive-brown with pale eyes and a stout bill. Forages at middle levels of the forest and may join mixed-species flocks. Sings incessantly early in the morning, giving loud whistles intermixed with scratchy twitters and squeaks. It can open its beak surprisingly wide while singing, giving the impression that it’s shouting. (eBird)

----------------

I've been going through my photo archive, updating names based on the latest taxonomy. As part of that work, I've come across photos that I've never processed or posted (usually because they were too grainy, fuzzy, etc.). New editing tools, though, have meant that a few will now see the light of day, like this one. Taken in the early hours of the morning by a less than perfect camera, it finally comes to light after some heavy duty editing.

Note: I had originally ID'd this bird as a South American Leaftosser (which is very similar to this). When I posted it on eBird, the reviewer got back to me almost immediately with a correction. Oh well, still a lifer and still the one and only time I've seen this bird.
