ANIMAL FARM is in its last month of production. The covers were letterpress printed in five colour stages, building up to the overall final illustration, from a linocut by Hugh Ribbans and colour separation/ plate-ready artwork by the hugely talented Mark Askam. It’s always satisfying to see the final image come together on the last print run. The paper is strongly textured, providing an appealing tactility. I’be become a huge fan of these softcover books, ever since I used this style for King Arthur. They are so much more pleasing to hold than hardcover books. Although, as Alfred Hitchcock once said, “this paperback is very interesting but I find it will never replace the hardcover book - it makes a very poor doorstop”.

I was never a fan of "The Seasons Editions" of classic novels with laser-cut dustjackets. But I collect Brontë novels, and I bought this copy of Wuthering Heights at a fair price on eBay. Alas, it came damaged in shipment, and I tried to return it. The seller, new to eBay, was furious and only refunded me at eBay's insistence, telling me to keep the book. So it's on my shelf, with a dented front board.
