I have new glasses at long last. I originally looked at the ones that have the chrome nosepiece, but that only made my gray hair more prominent. In momochrome, this just might be a dustjacket picture--guess I better write the book it should go around!

COURTHION, PIERRE.
New York: Harry N. Abrams, 1979. Hardcover. Fine/Near Fine. A lovely copy of this book. From "The Library of Great Art Movements" series. No Date, circa 1979. 314 illustrations, including 62 tipped in color plates. Translated by John Shepley
Pierre Courthion, distinguished authority on nineteenth- and twentieth-century art, offers a fascinating account of the movement, starting with its forerunners - Turner, Delacroix, Corot, and the artists of the Barbizon School - tracing its development both through its major exponents in France and its more incidental influence on such artists as Constable and Mex Liebermann, and concluding with Cezanne, Ganguin, and Van Gogh, and its transformation by Seurat and the other neo-Impressionists.
Sixty-two major paintings are reproduced in full colour, and over two hundred more are illustrated in black and white. A full section of graphic works, photographic documentation, and selected bibliography round out the volume.

I love this book and I think of it often when posting flickr photos because it is made up of simple photos of everyday life with charming descriptions - just like Flickr :)

Dustjackets are FAKE, PHONY, home-made with clip art. They're my own design and do not recreate the original jackets - I have no idea what the originals looked like.

If you want an author who drops names you can't do better than Cecil; he names just about every living important person in America in this volume. I love his style.
"The lost classic novel of a young man's rebellion against his father, set against a backdrop of Jazz in 1940s London. A young man rebels against the stuffy future envisaged for him by his father, an upright Professor of Classics in a 'red-brick' university. He runs away from school at the age of seventeen and becomes a jazz pianist in a low dive club in one of the seamier haunts of London. "
