I took this picture trough the window of a bus. Maybe it's not the best shot ever but I found it interesting to see how the sky turned yellow by the dust of the Sahara.

My title is a mouthful, and it is one way of tipping my hat to the 19th century Tasmanian painters who loved to string together very descriptive phrases for their work. So this scene is as described in the title.

The sunset light looking north on this winter's evening was so full of pastel shades, that I had to take advantage of the scene - especially with that pool of water offering some golden reflections.

Many people are amazed at the way Australian mountains appear blue in the distance - even in the midday sun. I'm told that when eucalyptus oils, dust particles, and water vapour (transpiration) from the leaves combine, as the sunlight hits, it creates an optical illusion of a blue haze.

The technical term for this is "Mie scattering" which occurs when incoming light with shorter wavelengths is preferentially scattered by particles within the atmosphere imparting a blueish colour to any distant objects, including mountains and clouds. Hiking in snow in September is a treat!

Gravel road dust blows across Highway 6 in Scott County Iowa.

The proprietors of this hotel keep their wine glasses dry and dust free by hanging them upside down above the bar. I liked the way that the light interacted with the curved surfaces.

The Milky Way over Hawker, South Australia. The forecast was clouds all night but it actually stayed pretty much clear. I did get a thin haze or something in my deep sky pics towards the morning so I gave up. This is from Castle Rock, the wind up there was so extreme I was concerned for the camera. Landscape lit a bit by a 10% moon, I'm not sure if its dust or airglow over Hawker. 3 shot vertical panorama stitched and processed in Photoshop.

Star Dust: *N*Star Dust wearble

Sun setting into airborne dust from the crazy winds two days ago. It's setting over the Turkey Mountains and the rolling foothills of the southern Sangre de Cristo mountains. You can actually see a few sunspots if you enlarge the image. I took the photo after stepping out the back door of my place in New Mexico. I got pretty blasted by the wind during the few minutes I was out there.

Taken from Harding County, New Mexico, USA looking west, but pretty much everything in the photo is actually in Mora County, NM...save for the sun. The sun is in space.
