Duke of Lancaster

Most of the buildings on Duke have this style of architecture making them look like little cathedrals.

The Duke Smart Home was designed by engineering students in collaboration with professors and the facilities management department. Here, you can see the photo-voltaic panels on the south facing verandas and the rain garden to capture water that overflows the rain water collection cistern.

Known as the "Black Duke of Lancaster" this ship is beached at Flint near Queensferry. For current access see www.dudug.co.uk.

It has a 50-bell carillon and three pipe organs, one with 5,033 pipes and another with 6,900 pipes.

In for the ABLD Meeting at the Ford Library.

Duke Children’s held a VIP Reception with Jon and Marcelle Scheyer with a Private Practice with Duke Men’s Basketball on Tuesday, October 15, 2024 at Cameron Indoor Stadium and in the Champions Club. The event was part of promoting the fourth season of Duke Children’s Charity Stripe Challenge. Patient Ambassadors, Philanthropy Ambassadors and Leadership Council including Ann Reed, Chair, Department of Pediatrics, and John Paat, Associate Chief Medical Officer for Quality and Safety, were on hand as part of the experience.

Duke Head Men’s Basketball Coach Jon Scheyer gave a team overview and season outlook speech. Scheyer answered a half dozen questions from VIPs, signed memorabilia for the VIPs, and had a photo taken with each VIP. The highlight of the event was the actual men’s basketball practice where the fans got to see the team practice and then join them on the court to get autographs.

This year’s Patient Ambassadors are Bella, Harper, Macon, and Violet. Violet was unable to make the event.

Bella is 9; she has Mosaic Trisomy 8, a chromosomal disorder, and is seen in numerous specialties across Duke Children’s; she loves dance and gymnastics. Bella’s big brother Gio, 10, is her biggest cheerleader and an enormous Duke Children’s supportive. He and Bella raised $11,000 for Duke Children’s last year through their lemonade sales!

Harper is 11; She’s seen in oncology and recently finished treatment for leukemia; She loves Taylor Swift, her horse and her dogs, and Duke Basketball!

Macon, will be 10 in November; He has Loeys-Dietz syndrome, a connective tissue disorder. He loves science, math, and learning about outer space.

Violet is 13; She is seen by the cleft and craniofacial clinic. Violet loves to write and draw and is a published author; she was recently inducted into the National Junior Honor Society.

Eight cadets and midshipmen from Army, Air Force, and Naval ROTC units at Duke unfurl their flags and march to the steps of Duke Chapel to formally present the colors as the national anthem is played to begin the ceremony.
