The Duke of York was situated at the bottom of Darwen Street with its junction with Canterbury Street. The pub would have originally attracted custom from the Railway Station situated at the opposite end of Darwen Street Bridge to that shown in the far left of this photo. However this custom would have tailed off due to the dwindling impotance of rail in the town's infrastructure. Furthermore the pub is too far from the town centre to attract lunchtime custom or that from the town's revellers.

The Duke of York's building is now home to Scales' Funeral Service.

Throw Back Thursday:

Here we are in the offices of Duke St. Records in downtown Toronto, early home to Jane Siberry, Chalk Circle, Art Bergmann, Willie P. Bennett and many others. I am being presented with a personal gold award for Siberry’s, The Speckless Sky. The label and Jane recognized that the Atlantic region of WEA (Warner) had done an admirable job of promoting her project. Duke St. later offered me a position with the company in Toronto which I gratefully declined, a wonderful group of people though.
